Guest Blogger Stacy Boyd from Harlequin starting February 5

Starting on February 5, I’ll have guest blogger Stacy Boyd who is one of my editors at Harlequin. Please drop by starting on February 5 and talk with Stacy about publishing and of course, Harlequin.

When I was first shopping around DARKNESS CALLS (then titled BORN TO DIE), Stacy and Leslie Wainger were the editors who thought there was still a place left for paranormals. Many of the other houses I tried said that a vampire story would be a tough sell, but Stacy and Leslie believed.

For that — MANY MANY THANKS!! To date, I’ve worked with Stacy on 5 books in THE CALLING series as well as a number of other projects.

So, without further delay, here’s some info on Stacy:

Originally from LaGrange, Georgia, Stacy Boyd is a voracious reader who turned her love of stories into a degree in studying people (aka, cultural anthropology) from New College of Florida. She’s been with Harlequin Enterprises since 2001 and has edited for both Harlequin and Silhouette series romance as well as for the LUNA Books trade imprint. She’s the winner of the 2004 PASIC Editor of Merit award, and her author base consists of many talented writers, including a New York Times bestseller, a Nebula Award winner, RITA nominees and Waldenbooks bestsellers. She currently lives in Hell’s Kitchen, NYC, with her husband and son.

  1. Hi Stacy,

If a submission has been rejected by one of the publishers under the Harlequin umbrella, does that preclude the author from re-submitting to another one of your publishers?

  2. Hi Stacy!

When judging a contest, do you request manuscripts from contest finalist, or primarlily the one you place 1st?

    Thanks so much for coming!

    Best,
    Marian S

  3. Hi Stacey,

What advice would you give someone in Australia, currently working with a small online publisher as a copy editor, hoping to find further work with one of the bigger companies in the US – online editing?

    Thanks, Stacey.
    Caro

  4. What advice can you give to new writers to help them rise above the slush pile if they don’t have an agent?

  5. Hi everyone!

As for pins, I’m not into pins, except on my badge for conferences. I’ve got quite a collection there, so much so that I’ve had to pare down and keep some on a special bulletin board.

As for the titles, they were originally BORN TO DIE, BORN TO LOVE and BORN TO SERVE. In retrospect, they were more mainstream and using CALLS helped create THE CALLING name, so it worked.

Elaine — I’m going to forward your comment to Stacy — also visit her post that went up on Feb 5!

  6. I’m glad you changed the title to Darkness
calls, I would have thought of a Bruce Willis movie otherwise and missed out on a great reads.

  7. I like pins you can wear them every where on jackets, shirts fronts even as a tie replacement for that feminine look.

  8. Thanks for coming by! I think it’ll be a lot of fun to hear what Stacy has to say. Stacy has great editorial sense and is totally savvy about what’s selling!

Jeannie and Annette — please come back on Monday and ask Stacy your questions! I’ll try to repost them as well for you.

  9. hello Stacy its great to meet you, When i read a book i tend to go through them really fast especally if i like the book lol. that sometimes i miss the important details. which makes it even more fun when i go back and read it again.

  10. It will be fun to hear what an editor has to say. I’ve always just chatted with authors!
