Wicked Wednesday – Wicked Dancing at the Harlequin Party

One of the most fun things about the conference are the publishers’ parties. I went to the Pocket party which was absolutely wonderful. Intimate dining at a top notch restaurant. Wonderful discussion around a table of ten. The publicity people made these beautiful name badges which looked like miniature versions of our books. It was awesome.

Then there was the Harlequin party! Hundreds of authors and industry professionals. Harlequin started the night by presenting awards for authors who had done 25 books for them and another author who had done 75 books for them. WOW! 75 books!!!

The DJ did an awesome job and at one point, there was a conga line that had virtually everyone in the ballroom on the line. It was a blast and here’s a clip of that infamous conga line courtesy of cuppacafe.com! It may not seem like a lot of fun, but it was. If you look closely around minute 6:45 or so, you can see me on the line followed by my editor Stacy Boyd.

Of course, if you skip to the end, you can catch us really getting down to the conga along with my friend and fellow author, Lisa Renee Jones. Now, please be kind about my dancing as I am a Cuban who was born without rhythm in her hips. VBG

Did you know these facts about the Conga?

  • The dance originated in the Latin-American carnivals tradition, originally in Cuba, where its simple rhythm and steps encouraged mass participation.
  • In the 1930s it was introduced to the American public by Desi Arnaz.
  • The name refers to the Cuban conga drum which was used to beat out the rhythm. This was a name given to it in the United States rather than its original name (Comparsa, I believe).
  • Here’s another picture from the conference of me with fellow author and friend Pat White, who writes for Nocturne and Harlequin Intrigue!

    1. Caridad,

Don’t despair over what you consider as
      “hips without rhythm.” The important
thing is that you were having a great
time with friends and colleagues, enjoying
      life !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    2. There is nothing sadder than a huge bunch of women dancing with two males present in the room. I know, I know, but it’s just so sad. And, mi Cubanita, you aren’t the only one without rhythm….

Of course, I’m just jealous because I couldn’t go!!!!!

    3. So glad that you like it Linda. I love chatting with you guys, especially on such a dreary morning when I am dripping wet from the rain.

The rain is good, though. Saves me from watering the gardens.

    4. Wicked Wednesday…wish it were Friday!
I like to read the blog every morning.
