Guilty Pleasures Monday – Keanu Reeves

Click here for the official site for THE REPLACEMENTS - Photo from WikipediaIf you asked me if I was a Keanu Reeves fan, I wouldn’t immediately say so, but when I look at all the keeper movies on my shelves, I realize that after Johnny Depp, the #1 male actor on the shelves is Keanu Reeves.

I guess what prompted today’s Guilty Pleasures Monday was a dearth of anything television or football and so hubby and I ended up watching THE REPLACEMENTS. I’m not sure how the film did, but it’s one of those kinds of movies that has it all — romance, action, comedy, emotion. Keanu does a great job as Shane Falco, a never was football hero who manages to find his inner hero and spur others to a momentary spot of glory and finding their dreams.

So what other sports movies are worth another look or possible addition to my list of keepers? Here goes (in no particular order):

    ROCKY
ROCKY STALLONE (also known as ROCKY 6)
    MAJOR LEAGUE
    A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN
THE LONGEST YARD (the first one, not the Adam Sandler remake)
    REMEMBER THE TITANS
    WE ARE MARSHALL
    BRING IT ON
    THE CUTTING EDGE
    CADDYSHACK
    BAD NEWS BEARS
SLAP SHOT (great skating strip tease by Michael Ontkean)

Back to Keanu, however, what keepers of his do I highly recommend? SPEED with Sandra Bullock and A WALK IN THE CLOUDS. Both are wonderful movies! The action in SPEED is great and the cinematography and romance in A WALK IN THE CLOUDS is delicious.

Hope you enjoyed this Monday’s Guilty Pleasure.

  1. A replacement of THE REPLACEMENTS, LOL! It really is a movie that I think should have done better. It’s part chick flick, part macho movie. Both sexes can sit and enjoy it together.

  2. lol I love that movie. It is one of my favs. i had the dvd and lent it to a friend and she lost it. need to get a replacement.

  3. I LOVE the Replacements! That reminds me, it’s been ages since I watched it. I thought Keanu was fab–which I normally don’t.

  4. Vision Quest (1985) with Matthew Modine…I actually watched this one quite a few times.

Hey…Keanu Reeves would make a great Ryder, no??? Change the hair, maybe….

  5. Keanu was rather mis-cast in Much Ado About Nothing but I loved the movie anyway.

As far as soprts movies? One of my all time favorites The Black Stallion. The cinematography is stunning. It does end on horse racing which I submit qualifies at in the pseudo sport category at least.
