10 Reasons to Fall in Love with Katherine Bordessa by Laura Kaye & #Giveaway

Seduced by the Vampire KingWe’re very lucky to have with us today Laura Kaye, a friend and fellow author who is sharing her latest release with us. SEDUCED BY THE VAMPIRE is the Nocturne Cravings release mate to NIGHT OF THE COUGAR, my June erotic shapeshifter romance. I’m so loving the purple theme here! It’s such a rich and royal color.

So without further ado, here’s Laura . . .

I’m very excited to be celebrating my newest release, a dark paranormal romance called Seduced by the Vampire King, the second in my new Vampire Warrior Kings series. And I’m particularly excited to be sharing release months (again!) with Caridad—thanks so much for having me here! Seduced by the Vampire King offers a twist on an enemies-to-lovers story by pairing a vampire king who desires only vengeance with a human woman who has fled 5,000 from her home to escape her destiny in the service of vampires.

One of the things I love about Seduced by the Vampire King is the heroine. So here are ten reasons you just might fall in love with heroine Katherine Bordessa:

10. She’s multilingual, something I’m not, so I admire it greatly in others! Kate is fluent in English, French and Russian.

9. She knows what she wants and what she doesn’t want. And when something challenges those, she is open minded enough to consider the new information before she acts on it. A lot of this story is about Kate confronting that she wants something she thought she never would.

8. She keeps a level head in stressful situations. Attacked. Kidnapped. Imprisoned. And yet Kate holds herself together! Love that about her!

7. Kate’s not afraid to stand up to the big, intimidating and powerful men she encounters, despite being hurt and imprisoned. They all begrudgingly admire her for that, too!

6. She takes initiative. When she finds an injured man in a dark driveway in the middle of downtown Moscow, she doesn’t freak out. Instead, she assesses his injuries and calls the authorities. And then, when she realizes that man isn’t, well, a man, she takes charge of that situation, too.

5. Kate has more than her fair share of courage. Whether she’s getting bitten by a vampire, ambushed by a group of vampire warriors, or imprisoned, she handles herself, her emotions, and is always looking for a strategy and solution to her situation. She’s pretty bad ass, actually!

4. More evidence that Kate Bordessa kicks ass: when she finds what she soon realizes is an injured vampire unconscious out in public, Kate acts. First, to hide him. Second, to save him. Third, to defend him against would-be attackers.

3. Kate is selfless, giving and compassionate. Despite her rejection of a future serving vampires, she allows the dying vampire she finds feed from her to save his life. Then, later, she comforts him when he discovers just how bad the bite wound is. She is the perfect balance of standing up for herself and giving to others. And that slays Nikolai!

2. Kate takes such good care of Nikolai. She recognizes right away that he is hurting and grieving, and despite her fear, she offers compassion in return. And it’s exactly what she needs.

1. When the time comes, Kate gives herself over to the bloodlust that will bring her and Nikolai together once and for all. She’s magnificent in her desire for him in that moment, and her desire for his blood totally rocks Nikolai’s world! Don’t you love when a heroine has the power to do that to the hero?

For me, all of these add up to one fierce, kick-ass heroine, and I hope you’ll agree that she’s completely lovable and totally worthy of Nikolai, Warrior King of the Russian Vampires.

  1. Keeping a cool head during stressful times is a big plus. How do you manage to do that when you find the injured vampire?
Plus would you trade places with me so I could look at Nikolai?

    1. Here’s Kate to answer this:

Well, just because I didn’t want to serve vampires, didn’t mean I wanted their existence to be revealed to society. What they do is too important for that. Plus I think I was just operating on adrenaline at that point.

      And, um, NO.

      😈

  2. Love a strong heroine. Nikolai doesn’t have a chance, bet he fell fast n hard! 🙂

Will you be writing books in other romance genres too Laura?

    1. LOL Linda – I think you might be right…

I currently write in paranormal, contemporary and erotic. In fact, I have a brand new contemporary romance release right now, too, called HER FORBIDDEN HERO. I wouldn’t rule out trying some others, but these are where I most feel at home! 🙂

  3. Congrats on the release of your book Seduced by the Vampire King. Sorry I don’t have a question because others already asked them. It was great to have you visit.

  4. I have enjoyed books from the Nocturne line before… I have not read any from the Nocturne Cravings line… What is the difference? Is it just a newer name for the line or do the books have something different?
Congrats on your release! Liking the sound of it! 😀

    1. Hi Colleen! Nocturnes are full-length printed novels. The Nocturne Cravings are an ebook only line of paranormal novellas, and they tend to be a bit darker and a bit spicier! 😈 It’s possible the Cravings will ultimately be printed in anthologies or in the backs of Nocturne novels, but none have been yet that I know of. The line just opened last September! Good question!

  5. Great list!! Kate sounds like a great heroine!!! Do you have a favorite type of heroine?
    thanks for the giveaway!!

  6. My question is for Laura (the author lady). How closely related are the two books in this series so far? Is this a situation where I can read the books out of order and fully enjoy them or would I need to read both books in order to get the most enjoyment out of them? Thanks for the giveaway!

    1. Good question, Maria! The stories stand alone. They exist in the same world, but you could read them in either order and be fine! Thanks so much!

  7. Hello,
My question is I know many authors like a place to go and inspiration kinda sparks something for a book do you have a place that you go to for your stories to get that spark? If so where?

    1. It’s not very glamorous, but I find that driving is a wonderful place to get inspired. The lull of the open road, being forced to focus on a single thing…it lets my mind relax and a lot of story brainstorming happens then! Fun question!

  8. Hi, Laura! I was wondering if you have more storylines in mind for future books when you’ve finished the Vampire Kings and Greek gods series’.

    1. I totally do! More ideas than I could possibly write, actually, but it’ll be at least a year before I can get to any of them, I think! The big question is which one I’ll decide to dive into (also known as, which one is being the loudest in my brain!) 😛 Thanks!

    1. Thanks for your question, Diane! I haven’t yet written shifters or fae but I do have a Greek god series, in addition to the vampires! 🙂

  9. I like all 10 reason why you like your heroine. I don’t like the wimpy girls in books. I want them to be strong. The book description has me wanting more. I can’t wait to read it. My question for you is, I loved vampires myself ever since I watched Love at First Bite when I was a little girl. Why did you want to write about vampires and what attracted you to them. Enjoy your day ladies.—Rachel

    1. Hi Rachel – fun question! I grew up reading Anne Rice, so as a reader my first love was vampires and, more generally the paranormal (Stephen King was my other early favorite as a reader). So it wasn’t surprising that my first foray into fiction writing was vampires (my vampire romance, Forever Freed). I love that vampires are powerful, immortal, ancient, but also often have a vulnerable side. Sigh. 🙂
