National Donut Day #FunFriday

Ah, the donut! I love donuts. From Krispy Kremes to Dunkin’ Donuts to Winchell’s out in California, donuts rock.

If you’re like me, today is the day to get some free donuts on National Donut Day. You can find out how to get yours at one of these links:

Now that we got that out of the way, who invented the donut? According to Wikipedia, there is some dispute as to the origins of the donut, but many of those origins are tied to the USA so I’m going with some American somewhere invented the donut. Of course, the French might say the beignet got it all started and yes, they are tasty fried nuggets of dough, but I’m feeling all patriotic lately, so we’ll stick with Americans inventing the donut.

What about the origins of Dunkin’ Donuts Munchkins? Try as I might, I could not find any common explanation on the invention of the “donut hole.” According to Philly.com, the holes were named after the Munchkins in The Wizard of Oz since DD thought kids would go for the smaller snacks. Hope you enjoyed today’s Fun Friday! Have a great weekend!
