#FunFriday My Writing #Playlist & Excerpt Wars

I wanted to change things up and offer you something fun that will hopefully get you looking forward to the end of Friday and a fabulous weekend! It’s chilly today in NY/NJ, but we are looking at weather in the 80’s. There are some fun things happening this weekend. Taking a walk with a girlfriend to check out the British Car Show in Ocean Grove. I love cars, especially those little MG roadsters.

Going for a run with my daughter on Sunday. She’s been doing the From Couch to 5K workout and I’ve been stepping up my game since we made a deal to run a 5K together next year. Wish us luck!

Excerpt Wars are still going strong at the Tall, Dark and Paranormal Fan Page. Please visit the page for details on how to win a $100 Gift Card or e-books.

I’ll share my excerpt down below, but for now, today’s Fun Friday is a playlist for songs that get me going! Sometimes it’s just the catchy beat, other times the theme, but for whatever reason, these songs are on my must listen to playlist. So here goes!

Excerpt Wars!!

Here’s my excerpt for today’s Excerpt Wars! This is from SINS OF THE FLESH, my contribution to the box set.

SINS OF THE FLESH Paranormal Suspense“Easy, Cat. They’re just memories,” Mick said softly.

She grabbed hold of his t-shirt, her hands fisted tightly into the fabric as she keened like an animal. Only the press of her body against his was very human and very womanly.

Too much so, Mick realized, fighting his visceral reaction to her proximity.

“Why is this happening?” she murmured against his chest, rubbing her head there as if by doing so she could erase the images.

He cradled the back of her head with immense restraint and tenderness, sifting his fingers through the thick curls. “They gave you small doses of LSD in addition to a bunch of other hallucinogenic drugs. It may take a little while for all that medication to work out of your system.”

“What’s a ‘little while’,” she said and wagged her head more forcefully, as if trying to dislodge the visions.

As he glanced down, he realized she had gone all camo on him again. Her hands were the color of his dark blue polo shirt and the rest of her was beginning to blend into the rust brown of the over-sized t-shirt he had offered her to wear.

“A couple of days or even weeks. It’s hard to tell with LSD, but try to focus, Cat,” he urged, recalling the mantra she had used the day before to regain control.

She listened to his command. She repeated the word over and over and as the tightness left her body, so did the color, but not before she caught a glimpse of herself in her altered state.

She released him and raised her hands. Held them before her and examined them while her skin slowly faded back to normal.

“What am I?” she asked, puzzlement in the stormy ocean blue of her eyes when her gaze skipped to his.

He could have lied. Tempered his words with tenderness, but he had a limited quantity of that and holding her had expended most of it.

“A science experiment,” he said, released her, and returned to his spot in the chair.

Her eyes narrowed as she considered his statement. The soft curls of her hair bobbed back and forth with the motion of her head as she said, “They were supposed to help me.”

“You’re not blind anymore,” he reminded, although he wasn’t sure she would consider that a worthwhile trade-off to becoming someone’s lab rat.

He wouldn’t.

She leaned back against the headboard, raised slender elegant fingers to her temples and rubbed tiny circles there. “Toward the end, when I was sick, I couldn’t see. But it was the pain in my head . . . ”

Meeting his gaze directly, she said, “It was the pain that stole the music.” Tapping a spot above her heart with one hand, she added, “My music.”

The passion in her words was unmistakable.

He understood it. Admired it.

He couldn’t allow those sentiments to change what he had to do. “Someone killed Wells. Do you know who?”

“If I did, don’t you think I’d tell you so you’d let me go?” she shot back.

“Not if you were the one who did it,” he replied calmly, barely controlling his smile at her show of spunk. He liked feisty Cat much more than the mewling weak Cat the drugs had created.

She threaded her fingers into her hair, pulling it back off her face. Releasing the long locks to fall back onto her shoulders as she said, “Why don’t you turn me over to the police? Let them decide.”

He shrugged and intentionally kept his tone neutral. “Because I’ve been paid to return you to Edwards.”

Her skin paled for a moment before a bit of the t-shirt’s rust color leaked onto her body.

Fight or flight, he thought again.

“You’re afraid of Edwards. He hurt you?”

“Morales. Edwards,” she admitted, looking downward at the sheet covering her body. Plucking at the folds of it nervously before she asked, “Are you going to give me back to Edwards?”

“Do you think that’s what I’m going to do?” he said, perversely intrigued to hear her initial thoughts about him.

She slowly lifted her head and tilted it at a slight angle. She examined him intently, but the look wasn’t one like he generally received from most women. This one reminded him of the look from one of his elementary school teachers.

Exasperated described it best. That brought a disappointment he didn’t understand, so he arched a brow and said, “Well?”

She raised her chin a defiant inch. “I think that if you were going to do that, you would have done it already.”

Her slightly rebellious response roused his smile once again. “So what do you propose I do?”

Her chin shot up another tiny bit, but there was nothing tiny about the determination in her voice.

“Help me find out who killed Dr. Wells.”

Here is my excerpt for the Excerpt Wars!

Caterina covered his much larger hand with hers. His palm was rough. Clearly the hand of a man who worked hard with his hands. A strong hand, she thought as she trailed her fingers past his wrist and to his forearm. The hair on his arm was soft beneath her palm. His body muscled and lean until she reached the edge of the bandage on his forearm that covered the wound he had received battling for her. Another scar to add to the rest of the damage on his body.

It had to be the fever that was making her remember just how that body had felt against hers when he had held her in the pool. How he had kissed her and she had responded, awakening passion that might be better left unexplored only . . .

“Would you hold me?” She needed the human contact. Needed the affirmation that she was still a woman. A desirable woman unless she was misreading the signals he was giving.

“If holding is all you want, I may not be your man,” Mick replied and dipped his thumb down to trace the edges of her lips.

“I want more. I want to feel alive again, Mick.”

She’s using me, but it wouldn’t be the first time or the last that a woman did that, Mick thought. Considering he found her damned attractive, weird genes and all, why not give into the temptation and get it out of his system?

“Move over,” he said.

Caterina shifted to the center of the bed and he joined her there, lying on his side and facing her.

Their bodies less than a foot apart.

“Touch me,” she said and pulled away the sheet, exposing the fullness of her breasts with their soft tips that beaded as his gaze fell on them.

He ran the pads of his fingers across the tip of one breast. Cupped the weight of it in his hand and rubbed his thumb across the tip until her nipples beaded into even stiffer nubs.

I need to taste, he thought and bent his head, licked the one tip while continuing to caress the other nipple with his hand.

She arched her back to give him easier access and cradled the back of his head. Moaned as he teethed the peak of one breast. He soothed that gentle nip with another lick and suckled at her breast while shifting one hand downward, across the flat expanse of her midsection. Past the delicate indent of her navel until the curls between her legs brushed the tips of his fingers.

She moved closer and threw her thigh up over his, inviting him to her most private center.

He accepted that invitation, leisurely skimming his fingers across her center until the sensitive nub swelled and a fine trembling enveloped her body. He shifted his fingers lower and experienced the wet of her femininity. Stroked her warm moist lips and teased the entrance to her center with the light touch of his fingers.

Caterina gasped as he explored her center, gripping his shoulders as he eased in first one finger and then another, stretching her in preparation for his possession.

“Mick,” she keened, shifting her hips against his hand. Holding his head to her, but wanting to feel the warmth of his body beside her.

He slipped inches away and she reached for the hem of his shirt. Pulled it over his head while he skimmed the sweat pants down his body, revealing the nakedness beneath the fleece.

She laid her hands on his shoulders once more and took a moment to enjoy all of him that was visible.

The articulated and defined muscles of his body. The scars and bruises that spoke of a man familiar with danger and accustomed to violence.

But there was nothing violent about the way he touched her. About the gentleness of his mouth and hands as he resumed his loving.

SINS OF THE FLESH (and the other novels in the Sin Hunters series) would not have been possible without my fabulous editors at Grand Central Publishing, Selina McLemore and Latoya Smith. THANK YOU!

This is a photo of Selina and me at the 2012 RT Convention! Selina was a wonderful supporter of my work and if you’re wondering if she inspired the name for Adam’s mom, you’d be totally correct.

STRONGER THAN SIN Romantic SuspenseI have a dilemma. I just got the rights back to SINS OF THE FLESH and STRONGER THAN SIN.

For those of you who read the books, you may recall that these were more romantic suspense with paranormal elements than paranormal with romantic suspense.

Because they didn’t really fit into the paranormal genre, my editors asked me to ramp up that part of the story line and the Sin Hunters were born in THE LOST and THE CLAIMED.

Now here’s my dilemma: I was plotting out the next book in the series – THE SHATTERED. It was really leaning toward paranormal sci fi with the introduction of Hunters from an alternate universe.

Now that I have these rights back, I’ve been toying with the idea of directing the books and the Hunters back toward being more romantic suspense. My idea was to have humans discovering more about the Hunters and somehow posing a threat to the existence of the Hunter clans. I’d also still have to deal with Christopher’s psycho father, but that could be handled as part of the romantic suspense.

So what do you think? Alternate universe and heavy on the paranormal elements or romantic suspense with lighter paranormal elements.

This is your chance to decide how the series will continue and I’d love to have your thoughts on it!

While you’re pondering my dilemma, how about some #ManWars to help you past #Humpday. For those of you who don’t use Facebook, just leave a comment here for a chance to win the print copy of IMMORTAL TEMPTATION.

#FreeRead THE LOST & Fundraising for HOPE FOR THE WARRIORS

I wanted to honor our military and their families and the sacrifices they make. In part, that was what inspired Bobby Carrera from THE LOST. I wanted to try and show some of the struggles that our wounded vets go through when they come home. So today’s free read is from THE LOST and features Bobby as she deals with her wounds and what Adam is making her feel in so many ways.

Even after I wrote THE LOST, I felt like I could do more and because of that, I donated part of my royalties from THE CLAIMED to HOPE FOR THE WARRIORS, a non-profit group that helps wounded veterans and their families. I just got an e-mail from them about their participation in the Newman’s Own Foundation challenge. Here’s what HOPE FOR THE WARRIORS said:

Hope For The Warriors® was chosen by Newman’s Own Foundation to participate in their first ever Crowdrise challenge:  Honoring Those Who Serve Challenge. The prize?  Whichever nonprofit receives the most donations will also receive $75,000 from Newman’s Own Foundation. What would it mean to win? $75,000 could fund three additional Above & Beyond Seminars , directly supporting more than 75 post-9/11 combat service members and their families as they transition into new civilian careers.

So I’m helping them to meet their goal! Please take a moment to possibly offer up a donation to help by clicking here or using the widget below. Join the team or share this post to help this wonderful organization meet its goal.

THE LOST Paranormal Romance Free Read by Caridad Pineiro

The Claimed #Paranormal #Romance #FreeRead

THE CLAIMED Paranormal RomanceI’ve been busy re-reading and taking notes from THE CLAIMED as I will shortly be starting the next book in the series, THE SHATTERED.

For those who have been asking, YES the hero and heroine are Sammie and Ryan. I so loved both of them in THE CLAIMED and I hope you will not be disappointed with their story. It’s going to be a very emotional one as Sammie and Ryan deal with all the changes in their lives while getting sucked even deeper into the war between the united Hunter clans led by Adam, Bobbie, Christopher and Victoria, and the Dark Shadow Hunter clan led by Christopher’s father, Alexander.

Plus, there will be some very interesting new Hunters in the mix, from new life for the Hunter leaders and some totally unexpected visitors who bring a warning about how life can be if the Hunters do not end the war between the Light and Dark factions.

So excited! Plus, I’ve heard all of you about the Carrera family and you will be seeing more of Mick, Caterina, Liliana, Jesse as well as younger brother Tony. I’ve missed them also. By the way, if you’re looking for the books from the SINS series on the site, try in the Suspense section. Although they were released as “paranormals”, I always thought of them as suspense books.

Since I’ve been reading THE CLAIMED, here’s a sexy – VERY sexy – excerpt from the book for you. WARNING – 17 and over please for the read.

If you can’t see the excerpt below, you can click here to read it.
