#WisdomWednesday – Is bad publicity good publicity?

There are some things that most writers have on their bucket list, including hitting the NY Times Bestseller List. If you write anything other than romance, you might also have “appear in the New York Times Book Review” on that list. As a romance writer, being in the Book Review was not on my list mainly because the NY Times normally doesn’t pay much attention to us. They even got rid of the Mass Market Fiction list which is where a lot of romance writers might appear on a list.

Imagine my surprise when I got a note from my publisher that I might be in the Times. It was like a WHAT? REALLY? And sure enough, Mr. Robert Gottlieb included ONE SUMMER NIGHT in his “Round Up of Romance” http://nyti.ms/2xxXZ78.

I have to admit that when I first read the review, I didn’t know what to make of it (besides the weirdness factor of having an 86 year old man think that ” The sex between Maggie and Owen is equally delicious . . .”)

And then came all the commentary about the “Round Up of Romance” and the ensuing justification by the NY Times Editor for choosing Mr. Gottlieb to review romance and the manner in which he reviewed it (see below).

So for today, I’d be interested in hearing your take on the “Round Up of Romance” and whether bad publicity is just as good as good publicity.

#ManCandyMonday, The Pen is Mightier than the Storm and The End of the World!

So much to do today and so little time so let’s start with the Man Candy! Today’s choice is Justin Tuck, defensive end for the New Jersey Giants (sorry NY. They play in JERSEY!!).

Justin is a fabulous ball player and also involved in a number of charities. This picture has him in serious mode, but he’s got a great smile. You may recognize him from the Subway television commercials. I love watching him chase after the quarterbacks and it’s no wonder he’s been selected to the Pro-Bowl for his feats on the field!

Next up! Thank you to my lovely friend Steph and everyone else at Fangs, Wands and Fairy Dust for letting me visit with them today. I’m sharing my thoughts on Hurricane Sandy and the damage to the Jersey Shore. We’re also having a giveaway of a copy of THE FIFTH KINGDOM (one of my favorites!) for one lucky participant.

Last, but not least, the end of the world is almost upon us! Visit with me and Bianca D’Arc at the International Heat blog as we chat about what we’d love to do and whether or not our alien overlords will arrive on December 21. Follow the instructions on the blog for a chance to win one of the many prizes being offered as part of the End of the World party!

Thursday 13 – My Bucket List

I was very moved yesterday with news about baby Avery and her parents’ very inspiring Bucket List. Avery was born with SMA – Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Avery passed away a few days ago. She was only 5 months old, but in that time, her parents made sure she lived, something that we fail to do at times.

For more on Avery’s story and to contribute to finding a cure for SMA, you can click here.

So today’s Thursday 13 is a list of things I’d love to do before it’s time to move on and here they are:

1. See that my daughter has her happily-ever-after in love, business and life in general.
2. Visit Macchu Picchu.
3. Take a cross-country road trip through the U.S.
4. Visit Chichen Itza.
5. Go to a shooting range and fire a gun.
6. Drive really fast on a race track.
7. Own an incredible inn on the shore and teach writing to guests.
8. Swim with dolphins.
9. See the Mets win another World Series.
10. Make the NY Times list again.
11. Visit every ball park in the U.S.
12. Regain my optimism.
13. Help others in need.

It’s a doable list I think and I’m hoping there are some on there that may happen soon, like #1. In fact, my daughter gets her MBA in just a few weeks, so I’m really happy about that. Which I guess means I’m on my way to #12.

But there is one that I am totally doing right now – #13 – and you can help me with that! You see, I am donating a portion of the royalties from THE CLAIMED to HOPE FOR THE WARRIORS. Please take a moment to visit the SOS ALOHA Blog and share this information with others!

Another way you can help is to tweet/share the following:

Help our #military with THE CLAIMED & @CaridadPineiro PLZ RT http://awe.sm/5nMDK

Tweet every day and each entry will increase your chances of winning the SIN HUNTER SHORE SPECIAL CONTEST.

Thanks so much for helping me with my bucket list! Share what’s on your bucket list with us today!

Help a Deserving Family This Holiday Season

The DWW Authors want to play Secret Santa this year ~ we’d love to help out a family with children and make their Christmas as special as this year has been for us!

If you’d like to nominate a family, just send us an email at [email protected] telling us why and how you think we can help this family out.

We’ll pick 5 families from the entries, and randomly draw our Secret Santa recipient from those!

Entries must be received by the 14th so our recipient can be chosen in time for the holiday.

Thank you!
