#ThrowbackThursday – Visits to the Green Market

One of the things I love is visiting the Green Market on Wednesdays to see what fresh local produce they have. I love picking up some nice greens, turnips, beets, carrots or more to cook at home. There definitely is a real taste difference when your food is that fresh! Yesterday I picked up some candy cane beets that I’m busy roasting for dinner tonight. As for the beet greens, I’ve cleaned them and put them away to cook with some olive oil and garlic tomorrow as a side dish. Nom nom nom. Check out the other photos from some of my other visits to the market.

Sharing Christmas in NYC with you!

Every year my family and I do our annual trip to New York City to take in all the Christmas sights and decorations. It’s always a great time and we’ve got our little routine we follow. We start off in Penn Station and then walk to Macy’s and then Lord and Taylor to see the Christmas windows. Then it’s to the Research Library on 5th and 42nd to check out the exhibits and lovely reading room as well as Bryant Park, the Pond and shops behind the library.

Sadly, we got to the library too early this year and it was closed, but that made for some extra time for something old – St. Patrick’s Cathedral – and something new – a walk through Tiffany’s and Cartier to check out some bling.

While we were near St. Pat’s, we hit Rockefeller Center to see the tree, promenade and skating rink as well as the NBC store. My daughter is totally in love with PSYCH and they have collectibles from that and a number of other shows.

Then it was walk up Fifth Avenue, including Tiffany’s and Cartier (sigh, such pretty things) and over to Grand Army Plaza and Central Park. We hurried up to Columbus Circle and then pushed on until we were in Lincoln Center where we had tickets to see THE NUTCRACKER. It was lovely as allows and after a quick dinner, it was back to Penn Station and the trip home on the train.

So much to see, but it was a lot of fun. Just a bit chilly with weather in the twenties, but at least it was sunny and pretty nice outside.

I hope you enjoy these photos! If you can’t see the slideshow, you can click here to see the album.

Thursday 13 – Favorite Foods

I had a chance to have a wonderful business-related dinner last night at an upscale New York City eatery – the Gotham Bar and Grill – which got me going on the theme for today’s Thursday 13, namely, my favorite foods. So here goes!

1. Foie gras. Yes, I know it’s outlawed in California and Oregon, but it’s tasty.

2. Lobster.

3. Hot Dogs.

4. Hot apple pie with vanilla ice cream.

5. Ice cream. Most any flavor except mint. Yech. I hate mint.

6. Ropa vieja. A tasty Cuban dish of shredded beef in tomato sauce.

7. Cuban roast pork. Love it! I gave out the recipe the other day if you want to try it for yourself. Just click here.

8. Tacos.

9. Cheese and bread.

10. Spaghetti and meatballs (my husband makes the best meatballs!)

11. My sister’s Thanksgiving Meal. (Corn casserole, turkey, pecan pie so many amazing foods!)

12. Eggs. Any way shape or form.

13. Tomato soup with either a tuna or peanut butter and jelly sandwich on the side.

Hope you enjoyed today’s Thursday Thirteen. I welcome you to add any of your foods and even give us some recipes if you can.

Fun Friday – A Guest Visit and Freebies!

This Fun Friday we’ve got two things going on! The first is another Tax Day Freebie, but this one runs all the way to May! If you’re near Charlie Brown’s check out their three course special deal via this link.

I had the special dinner last night after getting home an hour late thanks to NJ Transit. Another of their ungodly messes. When they announced a 25% fair hike yesterday, I guess they decided to add to the pain we were all feeling by having no service out of Penn Station. But the updside to the debacle was the Charlie Brown’s dinner courtesy of the coupon. Totally worth it!

The next Fun Friday thing is a guest blog with Lisa Pietsch. Drop by there today and leave a comment at Lisa’s blog for a chance to win a STRONGER THAN SIN T-shirt and a copy of FURY CALLS! The contest ends at midnight EST today, April 16th!

I hope you all have a marvelous weekend!
