#HumpDay – Getting an Early Dose of Spring

Monday’s weather here in NJ was a blessing! It was so warm I was able to drive around with the top down on my 20- year-old Sebring convertible. Keeps me going until Spring arrives, but just in case, today we’re doing a visit to Longwood Gardens for their annual orchid show and next week, my birthday week, it’s a visit to the Philadelphia Flower Show. Woo hoo! But for today’s Hump Day, I’m leaving you with some photos from fabulous Dearborn Market Orchid Show. I went there with friends and we had a great time checking out all the amazing flowers. I even bought one orchid plant and am hoping I won’t kill it. LOL! If it survives and flowers I’ll share some photos with you!

#ThrowbackThursday – Philadelphia Flower Show

When the weather turns colder and the snow starts to come down, I hold onto thoughts of the Philadelphia Flower Show in March and tell myself I can survive another winter. Kind of like the young artist in O. Henry’s The Last Leaf. As I looked through photos of last year’s flowers, this one caught my eye. You may wonder why since the last thing it screams is “Spring!” and yet I thought, this is a plant that says “I’m not what you expect!” Some people are like that also, all prickly and gruff on the outside, but with souls as pretty as that flower once you get to know them. Anyway, have a great Thursday!

#ThrowbackThursday – The Philadelphia Flower Show

I’m not a fan of cold weather and winter is tough for me. There is one thing that keeps my going until Spring arrives – The Philadelphia Flower Show. I love seeing all the amazing flowers and imagining how one day I could make my yard look like that – if only all the deer would go away! I especially love bulbs, like tulips, hyacinths, irises and more so today’s throwback is to some tulips from the 2010 Flower Show.

#TuesdayTip Shoveling that Snow

We’ve got a blizzard going today. Unfortunately, that means no Philadelphia Flower Show for me this year as I was supposed to be going today. So sad. I was really looking forward to the show. The theme was Holland this year and I absolutely love bulbs like daffodils, tulips, hyacinths and more!

Instead I will be shoveling and here are some tips for you to stay safe if you’re experiencing winter snow as well.

  • Keep the loads light and try to push instead of lift.
  • If you have to lift, do so with your knees and not your back.
  • Keep your shoveling intervals short, no more than ten minutes at a time if you can.
  • Dress appropriately! Hat, scarves, gloves and good boots to stay warm.
  • Listen to your body and stop if you are feeling short of breath or dizzy.

And now, a photo of my snowy view this morning!

P.S. – I’m working on a new look for the website. Would love to hear what you think about it!

#ThrowbackThursday Philly Flower Show

By this time of winter, my cabin fever has set in and I am so ready for spring! I love being outdoors. I love flowers and plants and the taste of sun warm tomatoes straight from my yard. Sigh. One of the things that keeps me going until then is the Philadelphia Flower Show! I can’t wait to go this year!

So today’s throwback is to the 2015 Philadelphia Flower Show. I’ll have lots of photos for you the second week in March.
