I love writing stories with intense action, tempting romance, and tortured heroes. Trapping a Terrorist has all of those us with an exciting storyline about an FBI Agent fighting to stop a serial bomber in Seattle and a woman who may hold the key to his investigation. Not to mention that both the hero and heroine are battling the wounds of their pasts. The hero’s mother was an FBI Agent killed in the line of duty and the heroine’s father is a bomber in jail for eco-terrorism. So today I’m sharing a teaser and excerpt from Trapping a Terrorist.

As soon as they were through the door, he released her hand and they stepped apart, gazing at each other, obviously uncomfortable. He broke the tension with a flip of his hand in the direction of the Murphy bed.
“I’m going to be working and you’re probably sore. Maybe you should take the bed tonight so you’re more comfortable.”
She opened her mouth, as if to object, but then just nodded. Clasping her hands before her, she said, “Thanks. But there’s room for you as well.”
And there was the eight-hundred-pound gorilla in the room again, and he might as well address it. Walking up to her, he cradled her cheek and stroked his thumb across her creamy skin. So smooth. So soft. His gut tightened at the thought of all that skin against his and she was more than he could resist.
Bending closer, he brought his lips to hers until only the space of a breath was between them. “This,” he said, whispered his lips across hers and shifted back barely an inch. “This is why that’s not a good idea.”
In answer, Maisy reached up and cupped the back of his head, keeping him close. “This,” she said, repeating his earlier action, her lips a butterfly kiss against his. “This is why we have to share that bed. Whatever happens, I don’t want to say that I ran from this. From us.”
A low groan escaped him, and he couldn’t fight it anymore. He wrapped his arms around her and hugged her close, her softness crushed to his hardness. Every inch of her fitting to him as if they were two pieces of a puzzle.
Over and over they kissed, until their breaths became one and almost ceased to exist as they strained toward each other.
But then something registered. Sound. Vibration.
“Damn,” he said and fumbled with the phone in his jacket pocket, dropping it with a thud.
That sound killed the desire as effectively as a cold bucket of water.
“SSA Peters,” he said, and mouthed an apology to her.
“We’ve broken through one of the shell companies and like you thought, it’s part of Rothwell Industries,” Dashiell advised.
“That’s great, Dash. We’re one step closer to Rothwell. I’m sure he’s the mastermind behind this,” Miguel said.
“I agree, Miguel. We’ll keep on working to break past the other shell. Hopefully it’ll lead to Rothwell also.”
“I don’t doubt that it will and if we can get Adams into custody, maybe he will flip on Rothwell. As for the licensed blaster, I think there’s one on our list that’s at Rothwell’s current construction site. If you can get an address for him, I’ll go with Madeline to interview him.”
“We’ll try to get it ASAP,” Dashiell said and ended the call.
Miguel tossed the phone onto a nearby tabletop and it clattered noisily, making Maisy jump and take a step away from him.
“You need to get to work,” she said and smoothed her hand across his chest.
“I do. Why don’t you—”
The phone rang and vibrated noisily on the tabletop.
“Again?” Miguel muttered in frustration, swept up the phone and answered, “SSA Peters.”
“We’ve got the address for the blaster from his license application and his photo from his driver’s license,” Madeline said.
“Great. Meet me in the lobby. We’ll speak to him and see what he has to say,” Miguel directed.
Facing Maisy, he said, “I have to go.”
“I understand. I’ll be waiting up for you.”
The last bit of emptiness inside him disappeared at the thought of Maisy waiting for him at home. A home and not just a place to lay his head between investigations.
“That’ll be nice. I’ll make sure an agent is at the door while I’m gone,” he stated and rushed to the door, Maisy following.
At the door he faced her, bent and kissed her, a long, slow kiss filled with promise.

Traditions, Navajo Mythology, and Raven #giveaway

POWER OF THE RAVEN
When you write stories that focus on places and the people who live in them, as we do with our novels about the southwest, people often want to know how we get ideas for the next book.
Our February release for Harlequin Intrigue, “Power of the Raven,†is a story that came to us when we were walking around Old Town in Albuquerque and saw a small, beautifully carved fetish in a storefront window and stopped to admire it. According to tradition, a fetish is more than just a carving. It’s a symbol that is said to capture the essence of the animal and impart those qualities to its owner.
Out of that moment came a storyline about a hataalii, a Navajo medicine man, Hosteen (mister) Silver, who fosters troubled Navajo boys, giving them a new life and future. On their sixteen birthday, each of the boys receives a gift – a special fetish carved for them. Gene Redhouse, the hero of Power of the Raven, carries a bear fetish. A bear fits Gene because bear’s power is made strong in solitude. Though Bear has a dark side, he also stands for confidence and inner stillness.
“Power of the Raven†centers around Gene, now a man, on a path that will test the limits of his courage.
I’ve always had a special affinity for animals, and the lore that surrounds each fetish is something I find particularly fascinating. One of my favorites is Raven.
Raven’s magic brings the power needed to take your dreams, give them time to form, then make them a reality. Raven belongs to the inner world, that place where we protect the part of us that’s often injured by the sting of rejection. Raven becomes a powerful ally who encourages us to embrace the shadows because they’re also part of who we are.
I find that especially beautiful, because as authors we have to dig into memories of pain as well as triumphs to make our characters come alive. The process can be difficult and leaves you feeling vulnerable at a time when you most need to protect yourself. Not everyone will see what you want to do in the story you create and the words you use to do it. There will be harsh comments, and judgments. You have to be able to take the blows, smile, and keep going. It can hurt – badly – but like a famous teacher once said, ‘It doesn’t matter how many times you fall down – only how many times you get back up.”
Each of the Copper Canyon stories will feature a hero and heroine who has, or will receive, a very special fetish in the course of the book. As the characters learn about their new spiritual brother, the reader will go on their journey with them, and maybe some will find their own fetish – an animal carving that will remind you of your own uniqueness, and the power that resides in each of us.
To celebrate its publicaton we’re having a very special giveaway – a handcarved raven fetish signed by the artist, Amos Pooacha. Mr. Pooacha is confined to a wheelchair and makes his living carving these very special fetishes.

Naughty or Nice? Alone or with a Partner?
Now I know that woke you up this morning, but ladies, go get another cup of coffee while we chat a little about tonight’s live video event with Aimee and David Thurlo, the husband and wife writing team responsible for the wonderful Ella Clah suspense series. Did I mention that Aimee is also a writer for Harlequin Intrigue and that her latest release, WINTER HAWK’S LEGEND, is currently a bestselling Intrigue on Amazon?
So you’re probably wondering what that has to do with being naughty or nice/alone or with a partner. I think back to some of the old stories where non-consensual sex was quite common and even back to my old contemporaries which were spicy back then, but now barely raise an eyebrow. We’ll also be talking about how it is to write with a partner, especially if that writing partner is also your hubby! I so can’t imagine. My hubby has only read two of my books and says he skipped through all those scenes. It’ll be great to hear how David and Aimee do that balancing act in their writing partnership.
