#TravelTuesday More than a Mission & Secret Agent Reunion

Several years back I was lucky enough to be part of a romantic suspense series from Harlequin that included MORE THAN A MISSION and SECRET AGENT REUNION. I loved writing these stories set on a fictional island as well as London and Rome. Especially MORE THAN A MISSION which is one of my personal favorites and was also turned into a comic in both Japanese and Chinese!

These were emotional stories about sisterly love and devotion and of course, romances with strong alpha heroes and action-packed suspense. Plus, they gave me an opportunity to do some first hand research in London and Rome. While I was in London, I also did research for another romantic suspense book that I had planned to revolve around the Knights Templar. That book is still in my ideas journal and I hope to get back to it one day when I have more time to write.

For today, on this Travel Tuesday, I’m sharing some photos from the places I visited and which inspired MORE THAN A MISSION and SECRET AGENT REUNION and will eventually make it into another book! For now, I want to leave you with these images. Just click on a thumbnail to see the full photo!

#WriteWed The Calling is Reborn Vampire Series & TAMING THE VAMPIRE Boxset

Taming the VampireWhen I wrote the first book in THE CALLING IS REBORN vampire series, DARKNESS CALLS, I knew I had to write more stories around the core characters, FBI Agent Diana Reyes and Southern Vampire Ryder Latimer, even though I only had a one book contract with Harlequin. Luckily, Harlequin agreed and there are now more than a dozen books in the series.

I knew that I had to surround Diana and Ryder with other unique characters and build a world that others would like to visit. The backdrop for that world was New York City, but it was the humans and vampires that brought the city to life.

Some of my favorites are Blake, a sexy punk British vampire, Foley, the vampire owner of the Blood Bank, Peter Daly, an NYPD homocide detective, and a trio of FBI agents – ADIC Jesus Hernandez, Agent David Harris and Medical Examiner Maggie Gonzalez.

As the world of THE CALLING IS REBORN grew, those characters would come back in recurring roles and get their own stories, except for Foley. Don’t worry, his story is coming one day because he truly fascinates me.

But I knew that to keep the world growing, it wasn’t enough to just have humans and vampires battling each other and evil, I needed other types of characters.

In TO LOVE AND SERVE, the world expanded, bringing into the mythology the Vampire Slayers and dhampir Michaela Ramirez. In BORN TO LOVE, various shifters added to the growing world and the battle between humans, vampires, and slayers.

The hero in DARE TO LOVE, my contribution to TAMING THE VAMPIRE, first appeared in TO LOVE AND SERVE and from the moment that vampire slayer Benjamin came onto the page, I knew he was going to have a story. An emotional, sad, and anguished story, but with a happily-ever-after at the end.

DARE TO LOVE is the start of that story and I will have Benjamin and his love, Rhiannon, in future stories so you can see where their love will take them.

Months earlier, Slayer Council member Benjamin hadn’t been ready to die and begged for his life from a compassionate vampire. Being turned and living as a vampire had created a new hell for him, however. He was no longer welcome in the Council, but tolerated as their ranks had been depleted. He knew that it was just a matter of time until someone staked him, but he wanted to make the most of it, especially when it came to Slayer-in-training Rhiannon.

Rhiannon had been attracted to Ben when he had been her instructor in the ways of the Slayers. His death had caused her grief, but his return was proving to be even more difficult as she battled her growing feelings for the Slayer-turned-vampire who was shaking up her beliefs in all that she had been taught.

Can Ben and Rhiannon dare to defy the rules of the Slayers and find love or will Fate make them enemies sworn to kill one another?

#ThrowbackThursday The Very First Book Signing & Thanks

It’s not possible to talk about reaching the ONE MILLION BOOKS SOLD mark (still can’t get over it) without talking about the very first one as well as some people who have been so very very instrumental in giving me the opportunity to write for you!

First of all, a big thank you to the fabulous Fern Michaels who took the time to read my first works and put me in touch with her editor. Her advice and support was invaluable in my deciding I might actually be able to write.

Another big thank you to the late Gwynne Foster who I sat with at one meeting and basically told me, “What are you waiting for! Just send it to them!” I did and got a call just a few weeks later from my very first editor, Diane Stockwell. It was such a pleasure working with her on the Encanto line and if it wasn’t for her support (and buying my very first book).

Things don’t always go smoothly in the publishing world and when Encanto disappeared, it took me a few years to sell another book. This time it was to the awesome Stacy Boyd who always brought out the best in my writing and who has been a wonderful advocate at Harlequin. Thank you, Stacy.

There have been many many other people and I don’t want them to feel left out, but I’ll share more thanks in the future (since I really really really want to milk this moment – LOL!).

To end today’s Throwback Thursday, here is a photo from my very first signing in Menlo Park Mall.

#TeaserTuesday #Marie250 Carrying His Secret

I wanted to take today to congratulate one of my writing colleagues, Marie Ferrarella, on the publication of her 250th book for Harlequin. Marie and I have participated in a number of continuity series for Silhouette Romantic Suspense and I’m so so happy for her.

Today’s Teaser Tuesday is a glimpse into #250, Carrying His Secret. Here’s a little blurb for it:

FAMILY SECRETS… For years, Elizabeth Shelton kept her attraction to Whit Adair hidden. But when one explosive night with the gorgeous tycoon leaves her pregnant, it’s not just her heart that’s at risk. Because the Adair family have been targeted by a killer… and Elizabeth is next on their list. When Whit learns of the danger Elizabeth is in, he immediately whisks her away to his ranch, the only place where he can keep this beautiful, vulnerable woman safe. And, once he learns that Elizabeth is carrying his child, Whit knows that he’ll defend their future… whatever it takes.

The Shifter’s Kiss #Erotic Paranormal Romance #FreeRead

THE SHIFTER'S KISS erotic paranormal romanceWhile I love my romantic suspense and vampire stories, it’s always fun to change it up with some other kind of demon, in this case a shifter. But unlike NIGHT OF THE COUGAR where I explored one of my favorites – cat shifters – OMG sexy purring alpha heroes whew – the shifter in THE SHIFTER’S KISS isn’t warm and soft and purring.

She’s powerful, fast and can be deadly. She’s also one of the last of her kind which made her story even more compelling for me. Think about this: Would you give up what you were for love? Especially if it meant the possible extinction of your race?

That’s the choice Nali, my shark shifter heroine, has to face in THE SHIFTER’S KISS. Here’s a little blurb about it and a free read!

After almost losing his life in the line of duty, firefighter Victor Edwards turned to his true passion: the ocean, the one place he feels at peace. By day, he studies a magnificent shark. By night he is haunted by erotic dreams of a beautiful woman, filled with a longing he can’t understand.

Nali is almost the last of her kind. She knows it’s dangerous to swim so close to shore, but she is drawn to the scarred man watching her and craves his touch on her human form. She can’t help revealing herself to help Victor when he’s injured—and offering herself to him for one week of pleasure. For she only has a few days before she must return to the sea…

THE SHIFTER'S KISS Erotic Paranormal Romance Novella by

Wicked Wednesday – How Wicked Do You Like it?

Diana Reyes, FBI AgentToday’s Wicked Wednesday is going to be a little different. Today we’re going to chat about just how wicked you like your stories!

As you may know, I’ve recently done some erotic romance for the Nocturne Cravings line. I include the word “romance” in there because for me the story has to have an emotional arc that involves the characters coming to care about one another.

All the Cravings novellas have had some more intense, slightly wicked things going on. Toys, bondage and other edgy happenings. One of the stories, HER VAMPIRE LOVER, is more about the foreplay leading up to the lovemaking. The anticipation which makes the fulfillment all that more exciting.

Now, I know some of you don’t like the really sexy stuff while others do. I’d love to hear from you about what you like. Whether you think there are things that just go to far.

Although I have not read the book about a BDSM relationship that shall not be named on this blog unless you wish to get a remote butt slap, I don’t think I’d be a fan of anything where a woman needs to be the submissive. Not my thing as you can tell from my many kick-butt heroines.

So, what is the line you don’t like to see crossed in your sexy romance novels? Do you think we’re going a little too far? I’d love to hear from you today!
