#ThrowbackThursday RWA 2017 and LSF Writers

I love conferences because I love meeting new people and attending the workshops. I always come away from a conference with newfound energy and determination. This photo of me with my buddy Kim Lowe is at RWA 2017. I can’t wait to see Kim in a few days since she’ll be at the upcoming Liberty States Fiction Writers Conference. Registration for the conference is now closed, but the Book Fair on Saturday is open to the general public. If you’re in the area, I hope you can make it!

#WriteWed – Liberty States Fiction Writers Conference

As both a writer and a reader, I love attending conferences, especially my local ones! As the President of Liberty States Fiction Writers and a presenter at this year’s conference, I am doubly stoked to attend! We’ve got an awesome line-up of keynote speakers with the amazing Julie Kenner and Dee Davis. We’ve also got 24+ Writers’ Track Workshops and 16+ Readers’ Track Workshops for you to choose from as well as a Saturday Night party and Book Fair! This year we’ve also introduced a Young Writers track for students (17+) and writers at all levels who wish to either learn or refresh select writing skills.

If you can’t make the conference, I’d love to see you at the Book Fair which will be held on Saturday, March 24 and will be open to the general public in addition to all conference attendees. Here’s some more info about the conference!

What Makes a Good Hero? #WriteWed

I had the pleasure of attending the Liberty States Fiction Writers Conference this weekend and a workshop by the marvelous Virginia Kantra. Virginia is a lovely lady and an amazing speaker. I always get something worthwhile from her panels and speeches.

The panel I attended was one on “What Makes a Good Hero?” It had lots of information and got me to thinking about how to refine the hero in book #2 in the At the Shore Contemporary Romance series. But it also had me contemplating what inspired Owen Pierce, the hero in #1 – One Summer Night.

When I think of Owen, I think of someone who is almost too perfect to be true. Someone who always does everything by the book. Owen is honorable and full of integrity. He’s hard working and demands a lot of himself because of a father who belittles him and a brother who needs his love and support.

Owen would sacrifice anything for the people he loves and he’s not afraid of commitment. But to have the woman that he loves in his life, Maggie Sinclair, he may have to lose all that he’s worked for as well as his honor and integrity. It makes for an interesting story, trust me! LOL!

Here’s how I pictured Owen. Sexy, right?

#WriteWed Conferences and Craziness

I feel like the year is just flying by! It’s already mid-March and I’ve got the awesome Liberty States Fiction Writers Create Something Magical Conference this weekend. I’m excited to be doing a workshop there and the book fair on Saturday, which is open to the general public. If you’ll be in the Woodbridge, NJ area, I’d love to see you there! The signing is from 4 to 6 pm and you can check out what other authors will be there by clicking here.

What other craziness? Well, I’ve been busy writing my story for the SUMMER HEAT box set and also working on a new project. I’ll have news for you soon on that one! Good news that I’m very excited about.

In the meantime, I’ve been working out and trying to get more fit. Writing (and working at a law firm) are both such sedentary tasks, but I’ve been up and about and on my way to 45 pounds lost. I’d love to lose another 25 to 30 by the time that San Diego and the RWA National Conference rolls around. I’ll be doing a workshop there and also participating in the Literacy Signing. Woo hoo! Very excited about that one as well.

Hope you are all having a fabulous Wednesday!
