#ManCandyMonday – Rob Lowe and Holiday in the Wild

While taking a break from my reality show binges (my latest one being The Repair Shop!) I decided to watch a movie that my sis recommended to me – Holiday in the Wild. It had been on my radar since it has one of my favorite pieces of Man Candy – Rob Lowe. He is so handsome and age hasn’t diminished how good-looking Rob is.

Holiday in the Wild is about a Kate Conrad whose husband surprises here with “I don’t love you anymore” on the eve of a safari intended to be a second honeymoon. When Kate heads on the safari alone, she encounters bush pilot Derek Hollister (Rob Lowe) and finds herself abandoning her safari plans to instead assist at an elephant rescue shelter when Derek detours to assist an orphaned elephant whose mother was murdered by poachers.

Kate’s journey becomes one of self-discovery as she uses her veterinary skills to assist at the shelter and also to help her college-age son through his own passage into adulthood. Of course, there may be a bit of romance involved as well as Kate and Derek find out more about each other as they spend time at the shelter.

Holiday in the Wild is a fun and romantic story. I recommend it to fans of romance movies as well as feel-good stories with animals (not to mention the gorgeous Rob Lowe!).

Holiday in the Wild is available on Netflix.

#MatineeMonday – Chef’s Table Asma Khan

One of the things that I’ve been doing for my new Hallmark book is to immerse myself in shows about chefs. I’ve always loved to cook and it’s been interesting to see the backstories about how some chefs began their careers and what their restaurants are like. One of the shows I’ve been watching is Chef’s Table on Netflix (https://www.netflix.com/title/80007945). I actually got started on Season Six and while the first two episodes were interesting, it was the third one about Indian chef Asma Khan that had me almost bawling. I say almost because I was on the train while watching it and didn’t want to embarrass myself. But I found myself crying again as I told my daughter about this chef’s inspiring story and the amazing legacy she will leave not just for chefs, but for all women. Every woman reading this post should go and watch this episode. It is a truly amazing story about a woman finding her place in life and helping others likewise find their place. #MatineeMonday – Always Be My Maybe

I was going to share another show today, but I needed a pick-me up and this movie definitely fits the bill. ALWAYS BE MY MAYBE is a rom-com with lots of humor and a feel good ending. I definitely recommend it. It’s the story of two life long friends who break apart after the death of the hero’s mother and a teenaged fling. Fast forward sixteen years and their lives have gone in very different directions. The heroine, Sasha Tran played by Ali Wong, is a celebrity chef and quite successful. The hero, Marcus Kim played by Randall Park, is living at home and working with his dad while sometimes playing music with his garage band. Sasha and Marcus find themselves thrown back together and rekindling the chemistry they once had, but not without some major bumps in the road. There is lots of humor, emotion and an ending that will have you smiling. There is also a surprise appearance by someone, but I won’t spoil that for you!

ALWAYS BE MY MAYBE is available on Netflix (https://www.netflix.com/title/80202874) and according to Wikipedia, was written by Ali Wong, Randall Park, Michael Golamco and directed by Nahnatchka Khan.

#MatineeMonday – Something new and a little wine!

Starting something a little new here for Mondays – a discussion of some of my fav new and old movies and television shows! On the flight down to New Orleans for the Book Lovers Con I downloaded WINE COUNTRY from Netflix. I love Amy Poehler and Tina Fey and so this was a must try and I was not disappointed. This tale of six friends spending a celebratory weekend in Napa is funny and thought-provoking at the same time. I even re-watched it with hubby and men will also enjoy how this group of women skewers many of the things faced in middle age. Warning, there is some cursing, minor nudity, sexual references, and some drug stuff (and I so like how this resolved by the way!). So definitely check out this movie for a lighthearted and hilarious time. You can watch or download from Netflix here: http://bit.ly/2WUQlwO
P.S. – If you’re wondering who I would be in this movie, definitely the Amy Poehler character. I map out our vacations but am sure to allow for that 20 minutes of planned spontaneity. LOL!

Also – sharing some photos from my New Orleans trip below.

#ManCandyMonday – Alexander Dreymon

Without much of anything to watch while I was finishing #3 and editing it, I came across a fabulous historical on Netflix – The Last Kingdom. It’s the story of the son of a Saxon nobleman who is captured by Danes and raised by them only to find his adopted family slaughtered one night. The lead in the series is played by Alexander Dreymon and boy did he capture my attention. The story is also fascinating and has lots of intrigue, action, and of course, romance. I highly recommend it and the very handsome Alexander! Thanks to the Last Kingdom Facebook Page for this photo!

#ManCandyMonday – Cillian Murphy from Peaky Blinders

My husband and I are hooked on Peaky Blinders. Think Boardwalk Empire but set in Birmingham, England. I love the history in the story, the romance and also, sexy lead Cillian Murphy. Cillian first caught my eye in 28 Days Later, a drama about a post apocaplyptic society where a virus has changed people into zombies. If you’re looking for something interesting to fill your nights, check out Peaky Blinders on Netflix and Cillian’s amazing blue eyes. Be warned though: You’ll have to turn on the closed captioning to make sure you’re getting all the dialogue on account of the British and Irish accents.

#ManCandyMonday Idris Elba

I’d noticed Idris Elba off and on in various programs and movies, but he really snagged my interest in the BBC One series LUTHER where he plays a detective with very deep and scary secrets. It’s a fabulous dark psychological crime drama and we binge watched it on Netflix. I highly recommend it if you love police dramas and if you love London. It was awesome seeing them running around in places we had been lucky enough to visit.
