#WriteWed When Inspiration Disappears . . .

So sorry to have missed you yesterday, but it was a hectic day since my daughter, one of her friends and I went to see Jimmy Fallon. I had to finish a lot at work before I could go, took them to lunch and then went over to 30 Rockefeller Center to line up for the show. Along the way my daughter got interviewed for one of the skits and we can’t wait to see if it made it into the show. Here’s a picture of us waiting in line!

But back to reality. What happens when inspiration disappears? I have to confess I’ve been struggling with what to do this year and when. I have a new proposal and just got back some comments from my new agent! Yeah. That’ll get me going, but what really got me going was attending my local writing group’s meeting last Saturday. You can check out the Liberty States Fiction Writers here along with their awesome March conference that has both readers and writers tracks.

We had a wonderful speaker – Anne Frazier Walradt – a dear friend and amazing lady. I talked with others about what they were doing and I mapped out a schedule for me for the year. That seemed to open floodgates in more than one way. Suddenly I had some ideas for a new story and then another dear friend asked me to join another box set for mid-year. It has to be new material so . . . have to think about that story as well.

Friends inspire as do fellow writers. Much like Weight Watchers or AA, there is something about being with people with common goals and ambitions and yes, problems, that makes you feel not so alone and can help you keep on moving in the right direction.

I guess the morale of the story is – When inspiration disappears, find like-minded individuals to help you keep on the path if you feel you are drifting away from your intended course.

#WriteWed Meeting You is inspiring!

I’ve just set up a meet and greet with a young lady and fan who I was lucky enough to meet on Facebook. I’m excited about getting time to chat with her.

I was recently in Kansas City for business, but was able to have breakfast with two of my buddies from the reader/writer world.

I love getting to meet you guys! It’s one of the most exciting and fun things about being a writer. I’m hoping that this year we’ll be able to meet up at one of the events I’ll be attending. Here’s a quick list of them so far:

Liberty States Fiction Writers Create Something Magical Conference – March 21 and 22, Iselin, NJ

RWA National Conference – July 22-25 New York City, NY

RomCon Conference – September 25-27, Denver, CO – You can purchase a ticket to sit at lunch with me and everyone who sits with me will be mailed a special swag gift worth at least $25 after the convention.

Midwestern Book Lovers Conference – October 22-25, Minneapolis, MN. Excited about this one since I get to stay in the Mall of America. It’s on my bucket list.

Philly Author Fest – November 14, King of Prussia, PA

If you’ll be at any of these conferences, please let me know ahead of time so we can plan some time together!

Here’s a photo of some of my dear friends at RT 2013. We got to see each other and had a lovely time just hanging out.

#WriteWed What Inspires Me to Write? You, the Reader!

Yes, you read that right. Look in the mirror and you will see who inspires me to write.

Why? Think of it this way: If a tree falls in a forest and no one sees that, did the tree really fall?

So, if I write a book and no one reads it, did I really write it?

One of the most rewarding things about writing the books and sending them out into the world has been YOU, the reader. I have loved chatting with you, meeting with you and hearing from you.

I love that you love the stories and that you don’t. I love that exchange of ideas and that we share a common love: books.

So if you’re ever wondering again why I write, it’s because I love giving you stories to read and getting to know you better in the process.

Speaking of stories, I am in the home stretch on the new novella in the Take a Chance series. This one has been a tough one to write because of the characters and the very emotional reason they get together. Yes, it’s erotic romance so you can expect lots of sexiness, but I hope the takeaway from this book will be much much more for you!

I hope to have it ready for you in late October so that you can snuggle under the blanket with a bucket of Halloween candy glommed from the kids and chase away the chill with Maggie and Trevor’s story.

Fun Friday – RT Convention Photos!

As you may recall, I was hard at work last week at the RT BookReviews Convention. Met lots of friends and fellow authors. I want to thank all of you who came to visit during the conference and at the book fair. It was awesome to get to meet you face-to-face.

It was also great to premiere the next book in the SINS series – STRONGER THAN SIN! I’ve got the covers and some excerpts for you.

STRONGER THAN SIN a paranormal romance by Caridad Pineiro Back Cover STRONGER THAN SIN

If you haven’t been to RT, it’s quite an event. Dozens of wonderful panels as well as some great balls and mixers. It’s in Los Angeles next year and I’m already excited about going.

Wanted to share some photos with you from the convention! If you can’t see the slideshow below, you can also click on this link to my Facebook page or cut and paste this link into your browser.

Characters are Plot

writingheartAt the February meeting of the Liberty States Fiction Writers we were very lucky to have my friend and fellow author, Anna DeStefano, do a wonderful workshop on revisions. During the course of the workshop, Anna mentioned something which I truly believe – Characters are plot.

Why do I believe that? You may read a book that has a good plot – pacing works, premise is interesting. But if the characters leave you flat, you will forget that book almost as quickly as you read it.

Writing emotionally developed and interesting characters is, IMHO, key to creating a memorable book and plot. Why plot? you ask. Because it is the development of the characters and how they resolve their internal conflicts that creates the story arc of your plot. It is your job as a writer to craft scenes in which the characters are challenged to deal with their conflicts and advance until at the end of the novel, the characters have resolved those internal conflicts (or maybe just one of them if you are creating a series with the same characters).

For this reason, I totally believe that characters are plot. When you define your characters and how they need to grow, you can then build a story around that. When you do, you will have a book where your readers are always on the edge of their seats wondering whether or not the character will rise up to the occasion or fail. Readers will cheer for them and their hearts will break when the characters encounter problems.

When your readers finish your book, not only will you have given them a story that engaged them, but you will have touched them and created characters they will remember long after the books are sitting on a shelf.

Characters are plot. Remember that before you get started and your story will almost write itself.
