#WisdomWednesday – Take the First Step

It’s hard to think about taking that first step into the unknown. Whether it’s a new relationship, a new book, or even revisiting something old that you’ve been trying to forget, it takes courage. But taking that first step is a necessary part of a journey that could be truly rewarding. So as hard as it is, take that first step.

#TeaserTuesday Jane the Virgin’s SNOW FALLING

Snow Falling by Jane Gloriana Villaneuva as soon as Jane the VirginIt’s Teaser Tuesday and today I’m sharing some teasers from an upcoming release, SNOW FALLING, a novel as seen on the Jane the Virgin television show on the CW. I was so excited when I was selected to work on this project a few months ago and many thanks to the show for letting me work with them to give Jane and Michael’s romance a happily-ever-after. SNOW FALLING is set in 1900s Miami when it became known as “The Magic City” due to the expansion of the railroads to that area and the immense growth of the city. It was interesting to read about the history of Miami at that time and incorporate that real life history with Jane and Michael’s story. I hope you’ll check out this book and fall in love as I did with the romance, humor, and emotion in SNOW FALLING.

#MotivationMonday – Per Aspera Ad Astra

You’re probably thinking “Aren’t Monday mornings hard enough without you tossing Latin at me?” LOL! Yes, they are tough and so are so many things in life. Lately it seems a challenge to just keep on going and yet, if you didn’t what would you accomplish? So this morning I told myself to find something motivating and came across that phrase: Per aspera ad astra. In English: Through Hardship to the Stars.

So when you’re feeling down, just keep that in mind. After the challenge comes the reward.

#FunFriday – A visit to the bookstore

As a book lover, walking into a bookstore is an experience for me. Walking around smelling all the books. Seeing all the covers. Checking out what’s on the shelves. I love it and of course, it makes for a long visit. If hubby is with me, he waits patiently. And waits. And waits. This photo shows how he probably feels during all that waiting. LOL! Have a great weekend!

#ThrowbackThursday My Pride and Joy Helping Others After Hurricane Sandy

It’s been five years since Hurricane Sandy barreled into New Jersey wreaking havoc in so many places and forever changing so many towns, especially along the Jersey Shore.

My daughter had only just opened her surf and skate shop when Sandy hit her quaint town. She was lucky that her shop didn’t suffer physical damage although the town did. Parts of the town were flooded, the boardwalk was destroyed in sections, the Great Auditorium was damaged, and a large portion of a fishing pier disappeared into the surf.

In addition to the physical damage, the economic downturn was devastating to so many small businesses including my daughter’s. But as much as she was hurting, that didn’t stop her from helping others. She sold tickets to a One Direction concert that she had fought hard to get and saved to by and she donated that money and a portion of her surf and skate shop’s income to the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting association so they could rebuild and help local residents affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Here are some photos of the day my daughter went to present them with a check for their rebuilding efforts. I am so proud of her and the kind and giving person she is!

#ThoughtfulTuesday Help Us Help Women Receiving Treatment for Cancer

I had just turned 22 when the doctors said my mom had cancer. Nothing in the world could have prepared me for that or for what would follow in the next few months. It was difficult to watch my mom, who was my friend and mentor as well as my mom, suffer and fade away. Just over a decade later, my father passed from the same disease.

It was no easier when nearly 12 years ago I heard the word again, only this time the Big C had come for me. I was lucky to have doctors who listened to my first complaint that something wasn’t right and even luckier to have the best doctors to treat me.

When I decided to do a book launch, I thought it would be fun to do it in my daughter’s store since it’s mentioned in ONE SUMMER NIGHT and then in more detail in WHAT HAPPENS IN SUMMER (#2 in the At the Shore series). But I also wondered what the two of us could do to help others while we celebrated my new release.

For that reason, a portion of the proceeds from book sales and sales at my daughter’s store during the book launch party will be donated to Mary’s Place by the Sea, a respite for women receiving treatment for cancer. Since some of you may not be able to make that book launch party in person, I will also be making donations for every copy of ONE SUMMER NIGHT sold from October 22 to October 29, whether online or in a book store!

If you are in the area, I’d love to see you! Here is the information for the book launch party!

    October 29 – 2 pm to 5 pm
(formerly October 22 rescheduled due to conflict)

    OG Surf and Skate
