Setting the Scene & Spring Happenings

On today’s Thursday 13, I want to invite you to take a visit to my fellow author India Drummond who is hosting me today as I blog about the powers of observation and setting a scene. Keeping in line with that, I thought I’d give you a list of the 13 things that I love about spring (not that it’s arrived here yet in the cold Northeast!)

1. Colorful crocuses peeking their heads out of the soil.
2. Golden daffodils.
3. Spring green bursting from leaf buds.
4. Soft pink of my Japanese weeping cherry tree.
5. The smell of freshly mowed spring grass.
6. The bite of wild onions mowed along with the grass.
7. First gurgle of the pond as I start up the pump.
8. Goldfish soaking up the sun.
9. Chatter of birds in the trees.
10. Sun, warm on my face.
11. Splashing through rain puddles.
12. Crisp breeze coming off the ocean.
13. The smack of the ball on the bat! It’s Opening Day!

Thanks for dropping by and don’t forget to visit me over at India’s blog. On this very last day of March and my month long birthday bash, I’m offering up a copy of AZTEC GOLD for one lucky person who leaves a comment on India’s blog by midnight EST.

Thoughtful Thursday – Summer is Here!

We seem to have shot straight from winter to summer in New York City, going from nights in the thirties to days in the eighties overnight.

But I’m not complaining because I am so not a winter girl. I live for the spring and summer months because I love being outdoors. Whether it’s working in the garden or taking long walks along the beach, there is something about being closer to nature that energizes me.

I took this photo a couple of weeks ago during one of those walks. It’s of a huge kite that was flying in Belmar, New Jersey during a weekend kite festival.

That’s another thing I love about being down the shore. There is always something going on and its usually within walking distance! What could be better?

How about you? What is your favorite season and why do you like it?

I want to thank all of you who dropped by on Wednesday to wish Rene Colato good luck with his wonderful children’s book! It was much appreciated.

Also – many many thanks for all the b’day wishes! I had a great day that weekend as well as last weekend when we had our first ever Liberty States Fiction Writers conference. I had a wonderful time and met so many nice people.

As for the b’day wishes, I’d like to announce the winner of my b’day contest!

Fun Friday – Flowers on the First Day of Spring

It’s the first day of Spring and it’s snowing!!! Luckily it looks like the snow is letting up and the crocuses, daffodils and other spring flowers are starting to emerge.

Since it is the first day of Spring, I’d thought I’d share some flower photos with you from my trip to the Philadelphia Flower show this year.

Also remember that the extended contest week continues until midnight EST on March 20th (Today!!). Visit any of these blogs and leave a message and you could win a copy of SOLDIER’S SECRET CHILD, an autographed ARC of SINS OF THE FLESH and a CALLING T-shirt. Thoughtful Thursday – A Harbinger of Spring

Lots of people think of crocuses as being the harbingers of spring when they poke their colorful little heads up over the remaining bits of snow on the ground.

For me, the best harbinger of spring is the Philadelphia Flower Show! Seeing all those lovely gardens and flowers help me survive the cold winter and remind me that spring is just a short time away.

My sis and I have a birthday ritual of visiting the show every year for my birthday! We’re going to the show tomorrow and I can’t wait to see it. This year’s theme is Bella Italia and I so love all things Italian. Here’s an image you can download from the site for the show. Proceeds from the show are for a good cause as well – The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society.

Next week we’ll be having a Birthday Bash Week to celebrate! Check back for lots of guest blogs and opportunities to win some fun prizes!
