#TeaserTuesday Fight the Shadows #RomanticSuspense

FIGHT THE SHADOWS Romantic suspenseFIGHT THE SHADOWS is part of the Shadow Ops Kindle World by CJ Lyons. CJ has created an amazing concept around the Special Threats Response Team, a group of heroes who go in when no other agency can or will go in. The head of this unique team is Rose Prospero and she is an absolutely fascinating woman. Her second-in-command is Billy Price and he couldn’t be more different from Rose. The one thing they have in common: Their desire to protect their country from harm.

This teaser is from the start of FIGHT THE SHADOWS and you meet Rose and Billy. I loved exploring what’s happening with these characters, but also introducing my own two characters, National Guardsman Patricia Morales and former Marine Rick Sanchez, as new members of the STR team.

#TuesdayTip #RWA2015 Places to Dine in #NYC #TimesSquare

The RWA Conference is almost here and I’m so looking forward to seeing some of you and spending time with you! Part of that time will be spent dining and for those who are not familiar with New York City or the Times Square area, here are some places I would recommend.

Juniors – West 45th St. between Broadway and 8th Ave.: Average deli sandwiches, but amazing cheesecake. Expect to wait. You could also hop over to their location in the Grand Central Terminal Food Court.

Havana Central-151 West 46th Street (Between 6th & 7th Ave): Good Cuban food at reasonable prices. Excellent mojitos! $1 empanadas during Happy Hour (4 to 7 pm)

John’s Pizzeria-260 W. 44th Street: A NY Pizza Icon located in an abandoned church. The Italian food here is also good if you’re not in the mood for pizza.

Virgil’s BBQ-152 West 44th Street (Between Broadway and 6th Avenue): I love BBQ, ribs and hush puppies and Virgil’s has some of the best. Also try their Mac and Cheese.

Osteria al Doge-142 West 44 St.: Elegant dining with Northern Italian food. Their carpaccio appetizer and liver as a main course were delicious! A varied menu of meats, fish and pasta to please everyone.

If you’re willing to venture a little farther from the Marriott Marquis, try these restaurants.

Bryant Park Grill-25 West 40th Street (Back the NY Public Library and in front of Great Lawn in Bryant Park): This is one of my fav places. Great food and ambiance in lovely Central Park.

Pershing Square-90 East 42nd Street at Park Avenue Across Grand Central Station: Another fav. Located beneath – yes BENEATH – the Park Avenue bridge, this place can be a little noisy but the food is excellent. If you need to do a breakfast meeting, they have delicious breakfast fare.

Oyster Bar-Lower Level, Grand Central Terminal, 89 East 42nd Street: A NY Institution. Enjoy the architecture besides the amazing oyster pan roast made on steam jackets specially made for the restaurant.

High Tea at the Palm Court in the Plaza-768 5th Ave(59th Street): Amazing location and fabulous high tea if you want to feel upper crusty.

Restaurant Row-West 46th between 8th and 9th: Lots of different cuisines all along one street. My favs are B. Smiths for elegant nouvelle fusion Southern cuisine and Lydia Bastianich’s Becco. I’d recommend you get reservations for each of these places.

Also, don’t forget Restaurant Week in NYC starts on July 20. You can find a list of participating places at http://www.nycgo.com/restaurant-week.

Whew, that’s it for now. If you’d like any other info on NYC, just send me an email with your question.

13 Places to Visit in New York City

With the Romance Writers Conference arriving in my hometown on June 28th, look for me to start offering up some tips on Eats, To dos and To Sees! Look for Countdown 2 #RWA11 starting on June 1 on Twitter and my Facebook Fan Page.

But today I’m sharing some other favorite places to visit in New York City. I work there every day and for the longest time really didn’t get to see this amazing city. Once I decided to become a “tourist”, I discovered lots of different little neighborhoods, restaurants and sights to see. It’s one of the reasons I set THE CALLING in Manhattan – to offer up views of all the unique neighborhoods.

So here goes!

When you think of New York you probably imagine there is a lot of hustle and bustle in the city that never sleeps. You’d be right, but tucked amongst all those skyscrapers are oases of green and calm. Here are some of my favorites.

    1. Tudor Greens
    2. Union Square Park
    3. Central Park
    4. Bryant Park

I’d list Gramercy Park in there, but unfortunately this park is open only to those who pay an annual fee and possess a key to enter. Ugh.

Next up – America’s story locations. Unless you’re a Native American, your ancestors came here from somewhere else and New York City is a vibrant part of that immigration story. So be sure to visit these locations to learn more about America’s famed melting pot and experience some of the flavor imparted on New York by its immigrant populations:

    5. Statue of Liberty
    6. Ellis Island
    7. Tenement Museum
    8. Museum at Eldridge Street
    9. Chinatown
    10. Little Italy

To experience the hustle and bustle, from both on the ground and above, these locations can’t be beat:

    11. Empire State Building
    12. Top of the Rock
    13. Times Square

I hope you’ve enjoyed today’s Thursday 13. If you’ve been to New York City, take a moment to share some of your favorite places to visit.

Tomorrow, look for the winners of the prizes from last week’s live video event, news on the next live video event and a chance to win an autographed copy of Margaret Mallory‘s THE GUARDIAN!

Fun Friday – Fashion Night Out

It’s not often I get to play tourist in New York City, but tonight is one of those nights! Tonight is Fashion’s Night Out in NYC and I’m hoping we’ll be able to take in some of the sights since we also scored some discount tickets to THE ADDAMS FAMILY. (If you’re in the city on Sunday, you can catch the cast performing “Just Around The Corner” @ 11:30AM @ Broadway on Broadway In Times Square!)

It’s a treat since we’ve all been hard at work and need a little break. I also find these little mini-vacations quite creatively stimulating so I’m hoping they’ll help with the various revisions I’m doing as well as the assorted last minute details for the upcoming release of STRONGER THAN SIN.

If you’re in the area it’s not too late to do Fashion’s Night Out. Events start at 6 pm. and you can map out an itinerary by clicking here.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
