#FreebieFriday #Giveaway ONE NIGHT OF PLEASURE

ONE NIGHT OF PLEASURE erotic military romanceOMG, it’s Friday! Thank you! We had more snow yesterday. 7 plus inches of the white stuff and I am so done with it. I need warmth and sun and the beach! I’ve missed it all winter long since it’s just been either too cold or too snowy to go for a stroll along the boardwalk. I really need those to balance myself.

Since I can’t have one of those walks right now, how about a sexy book set along the Jersey Shore? ONE NIGHT OF PLEASURE, my March 15 release and #5 in the Take a Chance series, is set in the southern part of the Jersey Shore, namely Atlantic City and Margate.

So what’s the giveaway on Freebie Friday? Be one of the first 30 people who leave the comment I WANT ONE on this post and I’ll send you an ARC of ONE NIGHT OF PLEASURE. If you can, please leave a review and indicate that you received the book from the author in exchange for an honest review!

Now here is a little teaser for ONE NIGHT OF PLEASURE!

Teaser

She wasn’t the kind of woman who wore fancy dresses or did one night
stands. . .

Bridget Sullivan preferred her Army uniform and work boots to elegant evening gowns. Getting all done up for some fancy Memorial Day gala wasn’t in her plans, but it’s hard to resist the thought of seeing handsome retired Navy Captain Mark Smith again. It also means spending time with the cadre of ex-military friends who have made her return to civilian life a little easier to handle. But when Mark presses for more, will she break her rigid rules for one sexy night?

The only thing he likes better than a woman in uniform is seeing her out of it . . .

Especially if it’s sexy Staff Sergeant Bridget Sullivan. Since meeting Bridget a month earlier, Mark Smith has been attracted to the gorgeous woman who seems intent on hiding her beauty and her courage. Bridget’s determination to make it in a usually male world, from her choice of the Army to her current construction job, intrigues Mark. When Bridget sheds her muddy jeans and sneakers for sexy high heels and a slit-to-there dress, Mark is more than willing to help her explore her new feminine side. But can one night of pleasure lead to more?

#WriteWed Inspiration for ONE NIGHT OF PLEASURE

One Night of PleasureIn Stay the Night you meet both Mark Smith and Bridget Sullivan, the hero and heroine of One Night of Pleasure (now available for pre-order).

This is part of the Take a Chance series, so I wanted to do a story about two people who stepped out of their comfort zones and reached for something that they didn’t think was within their grasp.

In Bridget’s case, it’s about allowing herself to explore her feminine side and a possible relationship with retired Navy Captain Mark Smith. Bridget doesn’t normally throw caution to the wind and do one night stands, but she’s tired of being alone and if she’s not getting the signals wrong, Mark is interested.

Mark Smith seems to have the perfect life. He’s sexy and successful. He has a thriving company and a lovely beachside home. A home that’s perfect for a family, but Mark thinks that a wife and family are something he can never have. But if he were to dream, it would be a woman like Bridget at his side. Strong, courageous and beautiful Bridget.

Here’s the official blurb for the book:

#WriteWed #Military Heroes in the Coast Guard

US-CoastGuard-Seal.svgI’m in the midst of writing ONE NIGHT OF PLEASURE which features sexy retired Navy Captain Mark Smith and veteran Army Staff Sergeant Bridget Sullivan. If the Sullivan name is familiar, it’s because you met Bridget’s younger sister Maggie in ONE LAST NIGHT. It’s also familiar because you meet both Mark and Bridget in STAY THE NIGHT, Rafe and Elena’s story.

One thing I always think about while writing one of these novellas is how I can give you a quick intro to some of the characters you might see in a future book. In ONE NIGHT OF PLEASURE you’ll get to meet Lieutenant Commander Samantha Whittaker who is now in the Coast Guard and veteran Seabee Zack Rodriguez.

Why the Coast Guard (and I promise you’ll see more about the Seabees in another Write Wednesday post)? Well, I happened to be rescued by a very charming Coast Guard vet when I was stranded on a hotel balcony during an RT Convention in Orlando. To this day we both smile whenever we see each other and recall that very interesting (and embarassing) incident. You see, my friends and I had gone out there to have a glass of wine on a beautiful day. As we powershut a very recalcitrant sliding glass door, the security bar came loose and came down perfectly, trapping us on the balcony.

Luckily our hero walked by and seeing our dilemma, called for hotel security to come free us. He then graciously offered to get us some more wine as well. LOL!

So in his honor and to honor the service of our Coast Guard veterans, I thought it was time to highlight that branch of the military in one of the upcoming TAKE A CHANCE series novellas.

So here’s a little bit more about the Coast Guard, my Write Wednesday inspiration for EMBRACE THE NIGHT (late spring 2015), my story with Samantha and Zack.

Did you know the Coast Guard just celebrated the 100th Anniversary of the act to create the Coast Guard? You can click here to read more about the Coast Guard Act. However, the Coast Guard has been around since 1790. The 1915 Act was really more of a change of name of the service.

During times of peace, the Coast Guard is part of the Department of Homeland Security (as of 2003). During times of war, the Coast Guard is part of the Navy. Coast Guard heroes like Douglas Munro, a Medal of Honor winner, have saved countless lives during both peace time and war.

The Coast Guard is one of five military branches. Its motto is “Semper Paratus” in Latin which means “Always Ready.”

The Coast Guard does have an academy which is located in New London, CT. You can get more facts by clicking here.

And now here’s a look at the Coast Guard in action! If you can’t see the video below, click here to see the Coast Guard in action in Texas!

#WriteWed Plotting with Friends & Lucy the Elephant

This weekend I got together with some writing friends from the fabulous Liberty States Fiction Writers. If you write genre fiction, you should really check out this organization. They’ve also got a great conference coming up in March with a number of workshops as well as editor/agent appointments.

I’m in the process of writing ONE NIGHT OF PLEASURE and wanted to bounce some ideas off my friends. They were awesome in helping me firm up some issues that I had and right now I’m chugging along on the first draft of this novella. I’m loving Bridget who is my kind of girl. Laid back and more comfortable in jeans and work boots than a fancy gown or high heels.

Of course, her first sexy encounter with the hero, retired Navy Captain Mark Smith (who you met in STAY THE NIGHT) will put her out of her element and into those girly clothes she just hates.

Actually, you kind of hear about Bridget in ONE LAST NIGHT and you get to meet her at the end of STAY THE NIGHT.

I’m having fun so far in setting the opening of this story in an Atlantic City casino and researching where I’ll take Bridget and Mark in Margate. I got to stay in Margate once many many years ago and it’s the perfect setting for Mark’s home. If you are ever down in that area, make sure to check out Lucy the Elephant. Lucy is a national history landmark and is one of the last animal-shaped buildings in the world (I believe). It’s been used for several different things such as a restaurant and tavern and it had a nearby hotel. Here’s a photo of it and it’s sure to get a mention in the book.

Kiss Me, Kill Me – Spies, Treason, Wikileaks and Worms

As a romantic suspense writer, spies and secret missions are sometimes a part of what we do, like in MORE THAN A MISSION or SECRET AGENT REUNION. The plots boil down to fairly simple terms: Find out what happened, who did it, restore order and eliminate the threat.

Watching this Wikileaks debacle unfold, it’s almost like reading a bad suspense plot, because I keep on asking myself, “Really? You let them do that? And you haven’t done anything about it?”

Write a book like that and it will end up in the circular file of the editor or agent. But, of course, truth is stranger than fiction and you can’t get away with things in fiction which actually happen. For example:

How did they get the information?: It is alleged that information provided to WikiLeaks came from an Army PFC (Private First Class) who used his “Top Secret/SCI” clearance to download sensitive documents. Scary to think how many others have this kind of clearance.

Put that in a book and an editor/agent might say – Seriously? A private has access to these kinds of documents? Not believable.

Let’s say you’re lucky enough to get past that part of the plot and move onto the second question: Who has the information? Cue the Internet. Despite shutting down the U.S. domain for Wikileaks, it moved to a site at Wikileaks.ch. Even when it was shut down there, information continued to be mirrored at various sites and the equivalent of an Internet war has begun with groups launching distributed denial of service attacks in retaliation for actions taken against Wikileaks’s founder.

But I digress. Imagine this scenario in your suspense novel. A site has sensitive information on servers with a known location. What to do? Infiltrate the area. Physically knock out the servers. Obvious, but effective.

How about something more interesting? Develop something like the Stuxnet worm to shut down the site and have it feed back to the computers where the information originated.

Now that might pass muster with an editor/agent. Having your spies/political types sit around and seemingly do nothing for months – back into the circular file for that story.

But what about the real life implications of something like Wikileaks? There are those who are touting the First Amendment and others screaming “Treason”. Let’s start with the easy one: Treason.

Treason involves betraying one’s one nation and so Assange’s actions are not treason against the U.S. Not so with any other U.S. citizen involved with the dissemination of the information. For those who betray the U.S., there is possibly an argument for treason.

What about the First Amendment? Too complicated to discuss, but you can read some more about here at the Wall Street Journal.

There are those that think this is a good thing – all this information going public. Expose the U.S. and its corruption. It won’t damage diplomatic ties, etc.

Let’s really simplify this and see what you think. Let me know how you feel about what’s going on and the actions that are being taken to stop it.

On the release of all this information in general: You safeguard your identity carefully. Shred documents. Put your info on the Internet on select sites, like your health insurance company website or through online banking. Someone gets all that information and decides to go public. Now the world knows where you live, that you really don’t like your neighbor Bill, that you’re being treated for an STD and have since developed ED that not even Cialis will cure, are broke and have creditors knocking on your door and by the way, using all that info, someone just hacked into your bank account and wiped you out.

On the problems with diplomatic ties: You tell your best friend a very sensitive secret. She tells someone else which is bad enough, but while she is telling someone else, a third person intercepts the message and puts in on Facebook or tweets it. Will you ever tell that best friend a secret again? Probably not for a very long time.

So sound off today! Please tell me what you think about this and whether a story like this would make a good book or an unbelievable one!

Wicked Wednesday/Thoughtful Thursday – A SINS Prequel

Sorry to have missed the blog yesterday, but family matters called to me.

I hope you all had a nice day yesterday and also hope you will enjoy this combo day’s offering – a prequel story to SINS OF THE FLESH. The prequel features Mick Carrera and offers some enlightenment on what he does and the kind of man he is beneath his dark and dangerous exterior.

Ripe Plantains and Behind the Scenes of SINS OF THE FLESH

Mexican Food RecipeWhen I was researching SINS OF THE FLESH, I wanted to make sure that I gave readers a taste of the characters in a variety of ways, including in the foods that they would eat. Since my research revealed a large Mexican population down the shore as well as in towns like Freehold, it seemed that my mercenary and ex-Army Ranger hero, Mick Carrera, would be Mexican.

And since I love books with foods/chefs (THE PERFECT MIX, SEX AND THE SOUTH BEACH CHICAS and MORE THAN A MISSION), it only seemed right that after Mick’s family had legally immigrated to the United States, they would succeed in their American Dream by opening a Mexican restaurant in one of the shore towns.

But Mexican food is more than tacos and burritos or the Tex-Mex dip recipe I gave you so long ago. I’ve been lucky to visit Mexico City, Tequila and Guadalajara on various occasions and sample the amazing dishes available in those cities (as well as the margaritas!).

But today’s Tuesday Tip comes courtesy of a visit that my daughter paid to a local Mexican restaurant in Philadelphia. She made the dish for us and it was delicious. Plus, it’s simple and incredibly tasty. What could be better? So here is today’s Tuesday Tip Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • ripe plantains (2) or 2 packages of Goya Frozen Ripe Plantains
  • sour cream
  • queso fresco
  • chopped chives

Directions:

  • 1. Most stores carry plantains, but they must be ripe for this recipe. That means they should have a deep yellow/spotted black outer skin so they will be sweet. Getting them perfectly ripe can be hard, which is why I cheat and rely on the Goya Frozen Ripe Plantains. Always ripe, no peeling and lots of sweet.
  • 2. If you’re using fresh plantains, peel them. Cut diagonally into ovalish slices. Alternative – open the Goya box.
  • 3. Fry up the plantains, either in vegetable oil or butter. This is one time not to use virgin olive oil because it will overpower the sweetness factor. Cook until golden and caramelized.
  • 4. Place the fried plantains on a slightly greased serving dish (They are so sugary, they will stick!).
  • 5. Garnish with sour cream, some crumbled queso fresco (available in the dairy section) and the chopped chives.
  • 6. Serve. This recipe will comfortably provide a side dish or appetizer for 4 to 5 people.

Hope you enjoyed today’s Behind the Scenes look and Tuesday Tip recipe!
