Craft Workshops:

Archetypes and How They Shape the Hero’s Journey

    Myths continue to be compelling to individuals because the characters in them illustrate these basic Archetypes and how our heroes either fail to overcome the weaknesses of the Archetype or triumph by embracing the Archetype’s strengths. In this workshop, Caridad discusses the more common Archetypes that are found and the roles they play in the Hero’s Journey.

Creating a Compelling Plot by Using the Mythic Hero’s Journey

    Have a sagging middle in your plot? Don’t know where the “black moment” should come in your manuscript. In this workshop, Caridad will teach you how to use the Hero’s Journey to create a plot that keeps readers turning pages.

He Said, She Said and Other Elements of Effective Dialogue

    You’ve started your book. You have the basic idea of what you plan to write (genre and length) and understand the conflict with which your characters will deal. But to be intriguing, your characters not only need that internal conflict to resolve but dialogue that fits them and is effective. In addition, the dialogue that occurs between the characters has to convey necessary information. The key is: not too much information. You want the reader to intuit any secondary meaning in the words and also, the emotions and intent behind the words. In this workshop, Caridad discusses the various elements that will help you craft dialogue that is realistic and compelling.

Horror, Science Fiction, Fantasy & Paranormal – Where the Twains Meet

    In this workshop Caridad explains the differences in the various forms of otherworldly fiction as well as the common elements in the various genres.

Master POV

    Point of View is often one of the hardest concepts to master and use effectively in your writing. In this intensive and hands-on Free Write, NY Times and USA Today bestseller Caridad Pineiro will discuss the three primary types of point of view in fiction and non-fiction so that writers may select the best point of view and/or repair any point of view issues they may have in their work. Attendees will be asked to select a one-page scene in order to revise the scene from another point of view and possibly share it with other attendees. In addition, attendees should select several pages from your work and have ready three different color highlighters in order to review those pages to determine if there are Point of View issues.

Romantic Suspense 101

    Caridad analyzes the basics of this romance subgenre and how you can create a compelling romantic suspense packed with action and romance.

Worldbuilding: You’ve Got the Whole World in Your Hands

    Whether you are writing a contemporary, paranormal, fantasy or science fiction novel, the world in which you place your heroine is one that is different from the ordinary world of the reader. Because of this, it is important that you establish the norms of your world and stick to them to create a sense of realism for the reader. In this workshop, Caridad will teach you why “You’ve got the whole world in your hands!”
