#FreebieFriday JUST ONE NIGHT #Military #Romance & a Signing

Happy Friday! I love Fridays and thinking about a fun weekend. This weekend I’ve got a book reading and signing on Saturday from 6 to 9 pm at OG Surf & Skate in Ocean Grove, NJ. I’ll be with my buddies Shelley Noble, Linda Parisi, Samantha Scordato, and the awesome Three Little Kittens Feral Rescue ladies will be with us also. We will have snacks, refreshments and door prizes so if you are in the area, I hope you can make it!

It’s also Chocolate Lovers Weekend in Ocean Grove, so there are a whole lot of activities going on in town. Always a fun place to be!

I’ve got a free read of JUST ONE NIGHT for you today! JUST ONE NIGHT is the first book in the Take a Chance Military Romance series.

Here is a little blurb for the story! You can download the free read here: http://www.instafreebie.com/free/mpx6b

JUST ONE NIGHT Military RomanceHe has just one night to prove to her that anything is possible…

Jason Hart, Jase to his friends, has just graduated college and earned his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps. It’s the night of the graduation party and she’ll be there. His best friend’s slightly older sister, Nickie. Nickie is the only woman he’s really wanted for a long time. He has just one night to make it happen.

She has just one night before the man of her dreams leaves, maybe forever, but can she find the courage to take a chance…

Nicole de Salvo has been in love – and lust – for her little brother’s best friend for years. For years she’s watched from afar and done nothing about her attraction for Jason Hart only now their time together is almost at an end. On their last night together will she find the courage to do something about her feelings, or will she live with regret for the rest of her life?

I hope you all have a great weekend and if you’re in the Jersey Shore area, please pop on down for a fun night!

#ThrowbackThursday The Very First Book Signing & Thanks

It’s not possible to talk about reaching the ONE MILLION BOOKS SOLD mark (still can’t get over it) without talking about the very first one as well as some people who have been so very very instrumental in giving me the opportunity to write for you!

First of all, a big thank you to the fabulous Fern Michaels who took the time to read my first works and put me in touch with her editor. Her advice and support was invaluable in my deciding I might actually be able to write.

Another big thank you to the late Gwynne Foster who I sat with at one meeting and basically told me, “What are you waiting for! Just send it to them!” I did and got a call just a few weeks later from my very first editor, Diane Stockwell. It was such a pleasure working with her on the Encanto line and if it wasn’t for her support (and buying my very first book).

Things don’t always go smoothly in the publishing world and when Encanto disappeared, it took me a few years to sell another book. This time it was to the awesome Stacy Boyd who always brought out the best in my writing and who has been a wonderful advocate at Harlequin. Thank you, Stacy.

There have been many many other people and I don’t want them to feel left out, but I’ll share more thanks in the future (since I really really really want to milk this moment – LOL!).

To end today’s Throwback Thursday, here is a photo from my very first signing in Menlo Park Mall.

#Throwback Thursday My First Book Signing

Today’s throwback is to my very first book signing. It happened in the Menlo Park Mall in Edison at the Barnes & Noble there. So exciting. They had me at a nice table toward the front of the store and gave me some flowers. My hubby and daughter brought me more flowers. This shot is of me with my daughter! How time flies.

#ThrowbackThursday Ultimate Fan Girl Moment with Nora Roberts

There are some moments as a writer and reader that you will never forget. One of those moments was being invited to sign at the Turn the Page bookstore and sitting next to Nora Roberts at the signing! Well, sitting next to Nora’s fabulous son and assistant at the signing. Afterward, I got a chance to get a picture with her and chat with her a bit. She is such an open and lovely person. It really meant a lot to me then and it still does. Here are some pictures from that day and to prove I really did sit next to her, you can see the plaid shirt in both shots!

As for why I’m holding the plush beagle doll, I had a beagle named Spotty in THE LOST and he was keeping me company on my trip up to the 2012 RITA Awards.

#ThrowbackThursday Turn the Page Book Store Signing

It’s Throwback Thursday, but I’m not throwing you all that far back! LOL! Only to 2012 and when I was lucky enough to not only get nominated for a RITA for THE LOST, but also get to do a book signing with Nora Roberts (fan girl squeeee) at her lovely store, Turn the Page.

Nora was so gracious and even posed with me and Spottie, my companion for the big RITA journey! Here’s a picture of us at the book signing.

Sharing My Weekend Writing Retreat

I wish that Google+ photos actually allowed you to do a slideshow. For the life of me, the little create slideshow link just isn’t showing up! So, you can go to visit the album here, but in the meantime…

I headed out on Saturday with my friends Melinda Leigh and Rayna Vause for a writing retreat weekend! Our destination: The Inn at Boonesboro and the Turn the Page Bookstore where we got to meet Nora Roberts as well as a number of authors.

I got up at 5, was on the road by six and picked up my friends shortly after 7. We hit the road and got to Boonesboro just before 11. It was the open house day at the Inn so we got to visit all the rooms, but first we met my friend Lora and then headed to the book store to pick up our books and get ready for the signing. Here’s a picture of my buds in front of the Inn.

At the bookstore, we got our purchases and since Vesta’s pizza was packed, headed to Crawford’s Guns, Ammo and Restaurant for a bite before the signing. Where else can you pick up ammo, check out the rifles and get some delicious sweet potato fries?

Then it was time for the signing!! I had my books for research (nothing better than Eve and Roarke to get me inspired!). I also had a J.D. Robb “book lamp” that I had made and Nora was so nice and signed it as well. Here’s me and Nora!

Then we were back to the Inn for the open house. Such gorgeous rooms and bathrooms. I loved the Galahad pillow on the chair in the Eve and Roarke room! The rooms were totally romantic and did any of you guess which room I would choose for Rey and Paola from AMAZON AWAKENING?

If you guess that it was the Westley and Buttercup room you were right. I could so imagine a big bed like this made of a sustainable rainforest wood like Ipe.

After that we headed for a walk through Boonesboro and then to dinner. We returned to the site of the Inn with all its lovely Christmas trimmings.

Ducking inside the inn to take off the chill, we had some wine and cheese and also celebrated my friend Melinda’s debut book (more on that on Thursday!).

In the morning, we headed to the Antietam battlefield for a bit of history and research. Since Ryder from THE CALLING/REBORN Vampire Series was a physician during the Civil War, I’m toying with the idea of bringing back someone else from that era. You may remember that Samantha Turner from TEMPTATION CALLS knew Ryder back then (and was the one who turned him). Not sure whether this someone is a hero or villain, but walking/driving the fields of Antietam certainly gave some ideas for a new character.

I even managed to climb the Observation Tower! The trip up was quite a hike, but the trip down was interesting as my fear of heights kicked in. Luckily Rayna lent me her shoulder to hold so I could keep my face to the wall and not see the big open scary hole in the middle of the stairs!

I hope you enjoyed this little travel journal!

Also, if you need some tips on writing short fiction, come and play with me today at my friend Catherine Bybee’s blog where I am talking about how to move from writing long fiction to short!

Come Enjoy Some Sexy Friday Reads

In the mood for a sexy Friday night? Why not join me and three other authors at the IN THE FLESH reading series tonight from 8 to 10 p.m. We’ll be reading sinful excerpts from our novels and sharing some other goodies with you.

If you’re in the area, come on down to the Happy Ending Lounge (I so did not choose that name!) located at 302 Broome Street, NYC, NY 10022. It’s bound to be a fun night. The event is from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Hope you are all someplace nice and warm. Enjoy the weekend!
