#ManCandyMonday NFL Player Danny Amendola

Good morning! I hope you all had a great weekend. We had more snow . . . Ugh.

Time to warm you up with some Man Candy! Today’s pick is in honor of STRONGER THAN SIN from the Dangerous Passions Box Set.

Why Danny? Well, in STRONGER THAN SIN the hero, Jesse Bradford, is a football player and Danny is a wide receiver for the New England Patriots. Danny was an undrafted free agent when the Dallas Cowboys picked him up. He then went to the Philadelphia Eagles before being signed by the Patriots.

Gotta love that smile, that face and those muscles! Sigh. I hope I took a little bit of the chill away from you with today’s Man Candy.

#ManCandyMonday Howie Long

Even now, Howie Long is still sexy. Love that militarily neat hair and sharp jaw. keen blue eyes and big body. Of course, it helps that he’s a fellow Villanova alumni and Hall of Famer.

Hope you enjoy today’s Man Candy. Also, a shout out to all my buddies in Buffalo. Thinking of you and hoping you get through this horrible weather safely.

Creativity and Chaos and Rubber Duckies

Many years ago I shared a meal with a friend at a legal conference and we got on a discussion of my writing as well as my firmly held belief that as a creative type I was allowed a little slack in the organization area. Mind you, clutter was something with which I grew up since my mother loved her little things.

In retrospect, that aspect of our lives was probably shaped by our departure from Cuba and leaving so many loved things behind. The two things I was able to bring with me were my gold Caridad del Cobre medal (my patron saint) and my little doll Pepito. He sits on the top edge of the sofa in my office in a place of honor.

But back to the clutter which invariably can lead to chaos and disorganization. In my mind I was entitled to some slack in the organization department because of my creative bent (and also a decided lack of time due to multiple jobs).

My friend looked at me and said, “Do you ever lose time trying to find something you need?”

The answer was an immediate “Yes” which was followed by, “And that was time that you could have spent being creative, right?”

At which point I was feeling rather embarrassed because she was totally right. If I spent half-an-hour searching for paper or something else that I needed, it was half-an-hour that I could have spent writing or relaxing.

Armed with that new insight, I took steps at home to clean up the clutter and get better organized. Not only did it make cleaning the house easier, but things looked neater and less oppressive. The one place I have yet to totally re-do is my home office.

There my doll Pepito sits, eyeballing the clutter, but I have started getting rid of the mess. And once a month, whether I like it or not, I get things organized. Now my goal is to just make it organized right away so that the once a month toss is not necessary. Get my ducks in a row which is in part why I chose that picture for today’s blog.

The other reason is that next week I’ll be at the RWA National Conference so you may see me be a little absent from the blog, although I am hoping to provide you with updates on what’s happening at the conference and some fun photos and videos!

If you happen to be going or if you’ll be in the Orlando area, please drop by the Literacy Signing which is taking place on Wednesday, July 28, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Walt Disney World® Dolphin Resort, Pacific Exhibit Hall. This signing is open to the public.

If you’re attending the conference, also look for me at the Grand Central Publishing signing on Saturday, July 31, from 3:00-4:30 p.m. at the Walt Disney World® Dolphin Resort, Southern Hemisphere, Salon 1. We’ll have copies of books for you as well as some special bookmarks and fun Jesse Bradford football duckies (hence the ducks also) in honor of the hero in STRONGER THAN SIN!

Choosing the Right Car

A car says a lot about you and as a writer, a car may say a lot about your characters. Or least it says a lot to me because I so love automobiles!

I’m hard at work on the next book in the SIN HUNTER series – THE LOST – which will be out in April 2011. I had a dilemma as I was selecting a car for the engimatic hero of the story – Adam Bruno – a self-made millionaire who appears to be a workaholic, especially to young Tony Carrera who is interning at Adam’s alternative energy company.

What car to choose? Expensive for sure. Adam is a man who enjoys the fruits of his labors. But I also wanted to select a car that said there was a playful side as well.

Hard choice so I began to think about the possibilities.

Since I’ve spent a lot of time wandering around Ocean Grove, New Jersey because it’s the setting for STRONGER THAN SIN and will also play a pivotal part in THE LOST, I pulled up some photos I had snapped at one of last year’s Ocean Grove car shows for inspiration.

After reviewing them, cruising the web and chatting with my good friend and fellow author Irene Peterson, I decided on the Bentley Continental GTC Speed. As Bentley says on their website, “Born of the same heart as the Continental GTC but with a different soul. Darker. Sportier. Tauter.”

In a way the same could be said of my hero – Adam Bruno. He definitely is a different soul and darker than Jesse Bradford, the charming and shining ex-football player who takes the lead in STRONGER THAN SIN. But for me the Continental GTC Speed, especially in Bentley’s Umbrian red just screams that there is a playful bad boy buried beneath the corporate pinstripes. What do you think?

Guilty Pleasures Monday – Sexy Surfers

As I was taking a walk along the shore this weekend, I passed by more than one sexy surfer dude which is the inspiration for not only this morning’s Guilty Pleasure, but the hero in the second book in the SINS series – STRONGER THAN SIN.

Although the hero — Jesse Bradford — was formerly a professional football player, he grew up along the Jersey Shore and returns to live there after his career is prematurely ended by a disease that destroys his bones. Growing up along the shore, Jesse has a love of the ocean and spent many a summer surfing on the Jersey waves. He is a sexy surfer dude and his laid back attitude is definitely part of the attraction for Dr. Liliana Carrera.

I hope you enjoy this morning’s sexy surfer inspiration. Also, I snapped some photos with my phone as I took my walk and I hope you’ll enjoy those as well.

Stronger Than Sin Research Part 2

This is a crazy time of year for me! I’m putting the finishing touches on STRONGER THAN SIN, the second book in the SINS series, while also visiting people to chat about SINS OF THE FLESH which will be released on October 27th! Less than a week away.

Be sure to check the calendar to the left of this blog post for the dates of my various online and in-person appearances. There are a tons of giveaways going on for SINS OF THE FLESH and you might be one of the lucky winners of a copy! Also check out the Contests page on the site for other contests that are currently in progress.

But back to STRONGER THAN SIN which I am absolutely loving. It’s about another genetically engineered patient – Jesse Bradford, a former pro football player. Once from the wrong side of the tracks, Jesse now owns a multi-million dollar home in Spring Lake (more on that town in another post).

The heroine – not spilling the name here so that I don’t spoil anything from SINS OF THE FLESH – is smart and strong, but introspective. I needed somewhere that she would feel safe and also very spiritual since she is a devout Catholic and very connected to family. After spending the summer wandering through the various shore towns, I knew the perfect place for her new home would be Ocean Grove.

If you haven’t had a chance to visit, you must do so during the summer. There is always something going on. Plus it’s a lovely landmark historical town filled with Victorian homes surrounded by carefully tended gardens. Main Avenue has an assortment of shops, galleries and restaurants you will totally enjoy. In addition, it’s just a walk over a footbridge or along the boardwalk to hit the renovated Asbury Park boardwalk and take in some of the sights there.

One of the more unique things about the town is the tent city that goes up every summer season. The tents date back to the revival meetings held in Ocean Grove. Today the tents are leased and occupied through the summer season. Here are some photos of the tents up for the season and some that have been closed for the winter.

Ocean Grove was the perfect place for my heroine and as the setting for some of the scenes in STRONGER THAN SIN which will be out in October 2010. So, I’m sharing some of the photos I took during my research and hope you will enjoy them!
