Ricky from Brickell Avenue Ambush

One of the fun things about writing a romantic suspense series is changing up the kinds of heroes in the stories. I especially loved Ricky Gonzalez from Brickell Avenue Ambush because he’s the kind of everyman hero that you root for. Ricky doesn’t have any special skills the way a law enforcement or military person might have. He’s actually a psychologist who’s trying to build his practice and only occasionally helps his South Beach Security family on cases. But when he meets Mariela Hernandez, a woman who someone is trying to kill, he’s sucked into a mystery that makes him rise to the occasion and become a real hero. Here is how I pictured Ricky, maybe on a trip to New York? He’s a little on the fashionista side and very laid back. Sexy Teaser from Lost in Little Havana

I haven’t posted a teaser in a while so I thought it might be fun to share this sexy bit from Lost in Little Havana. In this scene, Trey and Roni have just survived a drive-by shooting, and emotions are running high. They’ve gone back to the penthouse in the South Beach Security offices and Trey is tired of fighting his feelings for his baby sister’s best friend and the woman who is now his partner in an investigation. I loved this friends-to-lovers story and how Trey and Roni explore the changes and challenges in their relationship. Excerpt

The adrenaline was wearing off as they returned to the penthouse.

Trey’s hand shook as he reached out to take Roni’s uninjured arm and applied gentle pressure to urge her to face him.

She did, her muscles trembling beneath his hand as she finally released her grasp on the control she’d exerted at the crime scene. Lifting her gaze, she met his and the invitation there was clear.

He might have lost her tonight. Might have died himself. He wasn’t going to refuse her. He wasn’t going to hold back.

He hauled her close and kissed her, meeting her mouth over and over again as she strained against him.

He moaned, needing her more than he needed breath. Needing to make love to her to remind both of them that they were very much alive. That it was time they stopped denying what they felt for each other.

Still kissing, arms wrapped around each other, he backed her up until they were lying on the large couch in the middle of the room. Her body all soft womanly curves against his, but he worried he was too heavy on her. Shifting slowly, he let her be on top and in control because he had to know she wanted this as much as he did.

She slipped over his hips, her dress hiked up almost to her waist, and cradled his erection at her center. She leaned her arms on his chest, mindful of his injured shoulder. “I want this,” she said as if reading his mind and with no hesitation, she reached down and whipped the dress up and over her head.

Mets Opening Day

I wrote “The End” on #3 in the South Beach Security series this morning and before I start some final cleanup, I’m off to Mets Opening Day at Citi Field. Like so many Mets fans I hope this will be the year! I plan on having lots of fun at the game and hope you also have a fun Friday!

Happy Easter Throwback

This may be a repeat throwback photo but since Easter is almost here, I thought it might be fun to show it to you again. This is my sister and me with my maternal grandmother (left) and my mom (right). We were all dressed for Easter and possibly a trip to New York City for the Easter parade. It was something we did on more than one occasion. Apparently you can still do the Easter Parade in NYC which is just a lot of people walking around in hats down 5th Avenue to St. Patrick’s Cathedral. P.S. – I’m the one in the flowery dress.

Roasted Acorn Squash

As you know I’m trying to eat healthier and so we’ve been having meals with a lot more vegetables. Last night it was a dish of gnocchi with spinach, roasted acorn squash, and fresh mozzarella, topped with some crispy prosciutto and parmesan. The dish was tasty but the real star was the roasted acorn squash. It was so sweet, almost like candy! So today I’m sharing this quick and easy recipe for roasted acorn squash. If you like stories with lots of cooking, check out South Beach Love which was also turned into a Hallmark Original movie or Recipes for the Romantic Soul, a free download on Kindle Unlimited.

Ingredients

1 Acorn Squash
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp salt
Pepper to taste

Directions

Preheat oven to 425.

Cut the acorn squash into slices. It’s easier to pierce the squash in the middle and then work the knife all the way around to cut it in half. Scoop out the seeds. Slice into one-inch-thick slices. Place in a bowl and toss with the olive oil, salt, and pepper.

Line a baking sheet with foil. Placed the squash slices on the sheet and place in the oven. Cook for 15 minutes and then turn the slices. Cook for another 15 minutes. That’s it!

Acorn squash works well with a lot of fall-centric spices like cinnamon or nutmeg. You can also keep the squash in halves and add some butter and maple syrup. Really, any way you do it the squash will be tasty.

I saved the seeds and plan on trying to grow some in this year’s garden!

Happy but exhausted Monday

What a wonderful weekend! I spent the last few days at the Liberty States Fiction Writers Conference. I think it was a wonderful event but I may be a little biased since I was the Conference Chair. I had a great time learning new things at the workshops and meeting new people. A lovely time. Now I’m back at my desk, pounding away the keys to finish up #3 in the South Beach Security K-9 series spinoff, tentatively titled Killer in the Kennels. It’s a twisty, mind-bender about the discovery about a serial killer at the site of SBS’s new K-9 Division training center. I’m almost done and can’t wait to see what you’ll think about the four new books in the series which will be out in Summer 2024. In the meantime, you can read the first three which are now out and available in print, e-book, and audio! You can find them at https://amzn.to/42SXHDw.
