Happily Losing Twenty One Pounds

I’ve been hard at work on my lifestyle change and I’m happy to say I’ve lost 21 pounds. I’m taking breaks every hour while I write to sneak in a walk up and down the stairs. I’m walking more during the day and also doing 45 minutes on the elliptical daily. I’m also eating better with a mix of more vegetables and fruits. I’m also eating carbs, although a lot less of them and making them healthier when I do eat them. But I’m also allowing myself some favs like chocolate or other “sweets.” The hard part is eating out but I’m learning to keep to a reasonable portion protein size and also getting dishes with healthier sides. If I know they’re not all that healthy, I mind the portion. Another thing I’ve been doing is eating more mindfully. What does that mean? Eating slower for one. I’ve always been a fast eater and that means I wasn’t really enjoying what I was eating. Now I take smaller bites, try to be aware of the flavors and what’s happening in my mouth as I chew. Sounds weird, but mindful eating is a big way to change your eating habits. If you want to learn more about this, check out this Good Housekeeping article on it at https://bit.ly/CaridadMindfulEating. Also, if you need some healthy recipes, please visit my Cook’s Treat section at https://www.caridad.com/meet-me/cooks-treat/. You can also get a flavor for what I cook in many of my books, including Lost in Little Havana, the first book in the South Beach Security series. Saving Money on Gas

I don’t know about you, but with prices going up on everything, I’ve become much more aware of how to save money. I’ve always used coupons and bought things on sale which has helped. But you don’t normally get coupons or sales on gas, do you? Well, I’ve got some news for you! My sis turned me on to the Phillips 66 app which saves you anywhere from 5 cents per gallon to 15 cents per gallon. I was hesitant, especially since you have to connect the app to your checking account to get the 15 cents off, but so far so good. On the first fill-up with the app, you also get 20 cents off per gallon. You can bet that I made sure my tank was pretty low before taking advantage of that and saved nearly $4 on that fill-up. You can check out the terms of the app and how it works at https://www.phillips66gas.com/promotions. If you’re not sure that this app is for you, try out GasBuddy which helps you find local gas prices and also has a gas card that saves you money. If you try out the GasBuddy gas card, I’d love to hear from you about how it works!

Happy First Day of Spring!

Spring is here! Yeah! That means summer can’t be far behind. I love Spring. For me it’s a time of rebirth and getting ready for the lazy days of summer. I’ve already put out some spring bulbs and pansies, and I’ve started cleaning up pots and things to get them ready for planting summer flowers and vegetables. Speaking of vegetables, I’ve sowed seeds for about six different tomatoes, eggplant, and two different peppers. Also have seeds for cucumbers and zucchini to play outdoors when the time is right. Can’t wait. How about you? Are you gardners or do you have other hobbies that are fun for you?

TGIF Happy Weekend

TGIF! When I was working full-time Friday couldn’t come fast enough and Monday came way too fast! LOL! Whatever you plan on doing this weekend, ENJOY! I’m going to sneak in some walks since the weather is going to be warmer, plant my seedlings to get my garden going, and hunker down for many hours of writing on #3 in the South Beach Security spin-off. I’m having so much fun showing you what’s happening with the characters from the first three books and also working on this story involving murders at an abandoned greyhound racing kennel. P.S. — You can download the first three books in the South Beach Security series in print, e-book, and audio at https://amzn.to/3Td7kIF.

Visit to the Philly Flower Show

We did our annual trip to the Philly Flower Show last week. They moved the show indoors again and to be honest, we were a little bummed by that. It was crowded in the Convention Center and many of the exhibits had been done in ways that required you to wait in lines and the lines were long. Despite that, we had a nice time although we’re not sure we’ll go back next year. Sad to say that since we’ve been going to the Flower Show for over twenty years and it always used to be indoors. But after the airy and spacious outdoor experience, it’s tough to be back in a crowded indoor space.

Live Today Cheerfully

Happy Wellness Wednesday! My message for today is to live today cheerfully and full of enthusiasm! I totally believe that a positive outlook is one of the best things you can do to feel better. Speaking of feeling better, I’ve lost 19 pounds as of this morning! YEAH! Thank you all for your support as I make this journey. Also, don’t forget that you can download all three books in the South Beach Security series in print, e-book, and audio at https://amzn.to/3Td7kIF.
