10 Interesting Miami Facts

I’ve been lucky to recently write romantic suspense books in Colorado, Idaho, and Washington, so you may wonder why I set my new series in Miami? Here are 10 interesting Miami facts that might give you a clue!

    1. Miami is the only major city founded by a woman, Julia Tuttle.
    2. Miami is one of the nation’s largest cities with over 6 million inhabitants.
    3. The South Beach Art Deco area is the largest collection of Art Deco buildings.
    4. Miami’s nickname is the “Magic City.”
    5. Miami is the world’s cruise capital (maybe I’ll set a book on a boat?)
    6. Miami is home to the largest Cuban community in the U.S. (The second largest is in Union City, NJ)
    7. The first Burger King opened in Miami in 1954.
    8. Coppertone sunscreen was created by Miami Beach resident Benjamin Green.
    9. The telenovela Jane the Virgin is set in Miami (and guess who ghost wrote Snow Falling, the book written by Jane?)
    10. I watched way too many Miami Vice episodes plus we had friends and family in Miami and visited regularly.

Does that make you want to check out my new South Beach Security series set in Miami? I hope so. The first book, Lost in Little Havana, is available at https://amzn.to/36KrDcR.

Excerpt

“I should be furious with you,” he said and set his mug on the coffee table in front of the sofa.

“Should be? Does that mean you’re not?” she asked, hoping that he’d see reason about why she’d agreed to work with IAD.

He shrugged, crossed his arms against his chest and tucked his hands under his armpits, as if to keep himself from reaching for her. If he did, she didn’t know if she could keep from touching back. When he hesitated, she asked again, “You’re not furious?”

Shaking his head, he said, “When I saw Anderson had you…a million thoughts went through my brain.”

“I wish I could say the same. My mind went blank,” she said with a heavy sigh. She pushed back a wet lock of hair that fell forward as she looked away from him.

She heard the creak of the leather on the couch a second before she caught sight of his thigh coming to rest against her knees. He tucked his thumb and index finger beneath her chin and applied gentle pressure to urge her gaze up to his.

“You might say that, but I know that you were thinking about what to do every second. I was proud of you, Roni, but also more scared than I ever imagined I could be,” he said and stroked his thumb across her lips, the gesture as intimate as a caress.

Relieved that this was going way better than she ever could have imagined, she said, “So you’re not mad.”

“I am mad. I’m mad that you even thought about working with IAD without telling me. I’m mad that you risked your life,” he said. She was about to argue, but he laid his thumb against her lips to silence her.

“Don’t tell me that’s what cops do. I know that. And as my brother Ricky wisely reminded, that’s how my family feels about me being a cop,” he said and drifted his hand back to tangle his fingers in the wet strands of her hair.

Holding her steady, he leaned close and brushed a butterfly kiss across her lips. “I don’t want to lose you, Roni. I love you.”

She smiled and whispered, “And I love you, Trey.”

She kissed him and dug her hands into his hair, caressing his head as their mouths met over and over, the kiss deepening with each breath they took until they were both trembling with need.

But she wanted more and shifted back to meet his gaze, heavy with desire. “While the sofa was great last time—”

“I want to spend the entire night in your bed,” he said with a sexy, boyish grin, his ocean blue eyes alight with joy.

She smiled. “I like that we can agree on that,” she said, as she rose and held her hand out to him.

Where is the world is Caridad?

For many many years, we had the lovely tradition of spending Thanksgiving with my sister and her family. But then Covid came around as well as some other circumstances and now we travel for the Thanksgiving holiday. While we were away we had a chance to visit somewhere I’d never been before but had heard about often. Can you guess where in the world I am? I’ll give you some clues! It’s a coastal city that was once the largest in the state. Named for a Spanish leader, it was run by French pirates for a number of years. P.S. – While you’re trying to figure it out, I hope you’ll check out Lost in Little Havana at https://amzn.to/3FT144d.

6 Exciting Days and Counting!

Only one more day until Thanksgiving! I’ll be busy cooking today, but also counting down to the release of Lost in Little Havana in just six (yes 6!) days. I know many of you will be busy with cooking and visiting with family and friends and I hope you enjoy your time during this Thanksgiving holiday. This is actually one of my favorite holidays because I think it’s important to take time to reflect on what’s important in life and be grateful for all the things in our life. I know that I’m grateful for family and friends and also for the opportunity to be in this most amazing Nation. God bless America and keep her safe.
