Picadillo, a tasty Cuban treat!

I was working on a scene in the latest book and I have the couple making dinner and sharing some personal things as they cook. The choice of food they are cooking had to be comfort food that would remind the hero of his past and get him to open up to the heroine. One of my fav comfort foods is picadillo and I’m sharing that recipe with your today! Also, don’t forget to enter my giveaway which includes several items autographed by Brenda Novak and the South Beach Love DVD. You can enter at https://tinyurl.com/CaridadAugustGiveaway.

Ingredients

1 small onion chopped
1/2 bell pepper chopped
1 clove garlic minced
1 pound chopped beef
1 8oz can tomato sauce
1/4 cup green olives chopped
1 tbsp capers (rinsed)
1 tbsp cumin
1 tbsp oregano
salt and pepper to taste

Directions

Heat olive oil in a skillet and add the peppers, onions, and garlic. Saute for about 5 minutes and then add the ground beef. Brown the meet, making sure to break up the pieces as they brown. Once the ground beef is browned, add the tomato sauce, olives, capers, and season with the cumin, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for at least fifteen to twenty minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Serve over rice. For an extra special treat, fry an egg and top the meat with it!

Aldis Hodge on Man Candy Monday

Hubby and I have a list of things that we’re watching and one of them is City on a Hill. It’s a fascinating show about a rough and sometimes not so ethical FBI Agent Jackie Rohr who is played by Kevin Bacon. But it’s hard not to focus on handsome Aldis Hodge who plays a District Attorney who is often at odds with Jackie. Aldis just commands the screen with his presence. He is just so handsome and his character on the show is compelling. If you get a chance and love police/DA drames, definitely check out City on a Hill. If you like Aldis, you can also find him in Hidden Figures and Leverage. Also, don’t forget to enter my giveaway which includes several items autographed by Brenda Novak and the South Beach Love DVD.

A Visit to King’s Cross Station Platform 9 3/4

My daughter did study abroad in London and we were lucky to be able to visit her. Since we’re Harry Potter fans, one of the places we wanted to visit was Platform 9 3/4 at King’s Cross Station. We headed there and located the platform and of course we had to pose for a photo! After we explored many of the other sites in London as well as Windsor Castle. Unfortunately the Queen was in residence at the castle so we weren’t able to tour it.

Behind the Scenes of South Beach Love

It was quite an experience to be able to watch the filming of South Beach Love. It was like watching chaos somehow come together to form something cohesive. There were people all over the set, each with their own responsibilities, who would dash in to make adjustments between shots. There were also people sitting there watching everything during the shots, making sure that what was happening on the screen would come across as clear and pleasing. It was also a lot of fun meeting the cast! Everyone was so welcoming and I was grateful for the way they responded to the book I had written. For today’s Write Wednesday, I’m sharing some shots I took on the last day of filming. These shots are from the last scene in the movie where the happy couple is opening their restaurant together. Even though it seems so smooth on the screen, I hope you can tell from these pictures just what it took to make that scene happen. By the way, if you haven’t read South Beach Love yet, a new paperback version is available! You can get the new version featuring Taylor Quinn Cole and William Levy on the cover at https://amzn.to/3nvWcbL.

Rainy Days and Monday

When I had my full-time job I used to dread Mondays and going back to work. I don’t dread them anymore now that I’m writing full-time because writing is my dream job! It was especially tough when it was either snowing or raining. It’s pouring today but I’m actually happy about that since we really could use the showers after weeks without a drop. It also makes it easier to just huddle here in my office to write. I’m on my comfy futon, covered with my soft Villanova blanket, television on while l sip my coffee. Yes, I write with the television on and I know some people find that weird, but after years of writing on the train while I commuted, noise and action don’t bother me. Today I’m watching Ted K which claims to be a reenactment of the Unabomber’s actions as told through his own words in his manifesto. You may want to check it out! As for the writing, I’m still working on the first book in the SBS K-9 series and it’s really moving along well. I’m really pleased with it and I think you’ll love Matt, Teresa, and Butter, the heroes of the book! For this rainy Monday, I’ll leave you with the Carpenters and this thought: May your coffee be strong and your Monday be short.

3 Things I Can’t Live Without

Many of us are blessed in this great country because we don’t lack basic things. I know I don’t lack many things and am grateful for the opportunities I’ve had for my family to prosper. But there are three things that I don’t think I could live without: books, television, and last but seriously not least, my laptop. I think it would pretty hard as a romance author not to be able to use my laptop to write or surf the net.

What about you? What are things that you don’t think you can live without?
