Tempting Teaser from Decoy Training

The romance in DECOY TRAINING builds slowly but leads to a big eruption of the need between Shane and Piper. In this scene, Shane has had a nightmare. It’s one that he’s had before only this time, something very important is different and makes him realize that he wants something different for his future: he wants Piper.

PIPER BLOCKED HIS arm and took hold of his hand as he sat up in bed, bare-chested. His scars, both emotional and physical, revealed to her.

“You were having a nightmare,” she said and smoothed her hand across his chest. His skin was damp and chilled from the night air.

“I’m okay,” he said, but when his gaze focused and settled on her, he cupped her cheek, almost as if to confirm she was really there.

“You’re okay. Everything is okay,” she said, trying to reassure him.

Shane rubbed his head, as if trying to dispel the last remnants of the nightmare. He looked away for the briefest moment before settling his gaze on her once more.

“It was different this time,” he said and ran his thumb along her chin and the slight dimple there.

She squinted, trying to figure it out, but couldn’t. “How was it different?”

“You were in my nightmare,” he said, shocking her.

She laid a hand on her chest and squeaked out, “Me. I was in it?”

“You, Piper. You were there, trapped. I was trying to reach you, but I couldn’t,” he said.

“I’m here, Shane,” she said.

“You are,” he said and wrapped an arm around her waist and drew her close. As he lay down, he took her with him, and she ended up lying along his length.

His body was so hard beneath hers, calling to the woman who hadn’t experienced emotions like this since her husband’s death. But as she inched up to meet his lips with hers, she knew it was about more than physical longing. Shane had breached the walls of her heart and she could no longer deny what she was feeling.

She kissed him, moving her mouth along his. Taking in his breath as if she needed it to breathe. Dipping her tongue in to taste him because she wanted to know everything about this strong and caring man.

As he cupped her breast through the thin fabric of her nightshirt, her nipple beaded against his palm. Her breast heavy with need, she covered his hand and pressed it to her, moaned when he tweaked her hard nipple with his fingers.

HIS BREATH EXPLODED from his chest at the sound of her needy moan and the feel of her breast against his palm, beneath his fingers. The softness of her belly cradled his erection and he wanted nothing more than to strip off her thin cotton nightshirt and make love to her, but not like this.

Not when their emotions were running high from the danger threatening Piper’s life and his. He had no doubt that if the intruder needed to get to Piper, he’d kill Shane to do it.

“Shane?” Piper asked and leaned a hand on his chest to look at him in the dim light of the room.

“I… I care for you, Piper. I really do, but things are too unsettled now. We’re both not thinking straight.”
Her eyes widened at his words, and she scrambled off him, but stood by the bed for a halting second. “I care for you, too.”

Then she burst from the room, Chipper barking and hopping up and down as she chased after Piper.

Pursuing a Baseball Dream

I’m going to my first ever doubleheader today and it’s also the first stop on our dream of visiting every Major League Baseball stadium! We’re starting with our Mets and Citi Field and will be going to the various other ballparks over the course of the next year or so. But first I have to decide which jersey to wear! Will it be Piazza, Wright, or Tebow? The Mets have brought back the black uniforms this year and I’m feeling like their lucky so Piazza it will be for the game. Very Happy Unboxing Week

The postman rang more than twice this week! I got a box of my new release COLORADO RESCUE as well as copies of some of my foreign and large print editions for the Harlequin books. It’s always fun to get these and see where my books are being published! I thought I’d share some of that unboxing with you so you could see all the different editions. I usually donate the large print books to my local library, but maybe we can even do a giveaway for some of them. What do you think?

Happy Birthday to My Grandfather Antonio

My grandfather would have turned 125 today! What a momentous birthday it would have been. His name was Antonio Gonzalez and he was born in a small village in Spain. His family had some land, but my grandfather wanted to be more than a farmer. It was what led him to go to Cuba and build what he thought would be a better life for his family. He was a kind and gentle soul who loved kids and had a terrible sweet tooth. He was also the handiest man alive. He could fix anything and he was very organized. I remember how he would keep assorted screws, nails, and other things in baby food jars in the garage. He came from a generation where nothing was ever wasted.

My grandfather would do anything for his family and as I mentioned before, my grandmother and he were the ones who took care of my sister and me when my parents were forced to leave Cuba. There’s a scene in The Family She Never Met where it’s mentioned that the grandfather lied about his age in order to get a job to help support the family. My grandfather did just that, making himself a decade younger so that he could get a job with a maintenance company at LaGuardia Airport. I fondly remember going to pick him up at the airport when he was done working his shift.

I was lucky to have such a wonderful grandfather. This is a picture of him taken in Cuba. How about you share something about your grandfather? Maybe even share a picture!

Happy Release Day Colorado Rescue

I’m so excited to be in Colorado Rescue, the re-release of Ice Cold Killer by Cindy Myers and Cold Case Reopened by me! I loved my story of a twin sister Rhea who is out to find out the truth about her twin’s death. Through that special twin connection, Rhea doesn’t believe that her sister is gone despite all the evidence to the contrary. I also loved the hero of this book, Jackson Whitaker, who is willing to risk his career and possible position as Police Chief in order to find out the truth about what happened to Rhea’s sister. Amazing Tulip Fields at Holland Ridge Farms

As you know from other blog posts, I love gardening whether it’s flowers or vegetables. That’s why I love going to things like the Philly Flower Show (and yes I have tickets for it already!) It’s my dream to one day visit the tulip fields in Holland but in the meantime, I heard about Holland Ridge Farms and decided to check it out. It was amazing! Hubby and I walked through an immense field filled with rows and rows of tulips in bloom. While we walked, we also picked some tulips to take home. If you get a chance, definitely head out there to visit. Finally, I’ve been thinking of doing a story where one of the characters is a gardener. What do you think? P.S. – If you miss tulip season, look for sunflower picking in the fall!

Man Candy Monday Shane Adler

I love writing stories with military heroes and helping them get their Happily-Ever-After. That’s why I loved writing Decoy Training! This story was even more special because military widow Piper gets to find her happiness as well as Decoy, the stray dog befriended by our hero Shane. Decoy helped save Shane when he was buried in the rubble of a building demolished by an explosion. As for Decoy’s Happily-Ever-After, not only does he get to live a life as a rescue dog, but he gets to meet Piper’s new pup Chipper. Happiness all around! I’ve shared photos with you of Decoy who is a lab mix. As for Shane, how do you picture him? Something like this?
