Happy National Rum Day
Happy National Rum Day! I’m not much of a drinker, but when I do have a drink, I like sweet ones. My favorite drink is a fruity Planter’s Punch with our without rum. And since I mentioned my wonderful client Jose Cuervo, they also had an amazing rum in their line-up! On National Rum Day, I’m giving you my recipe for Planter’s Punch. I use dark rum because it is sweeter, but if you don’t like anything too sweet, switch to light rum and omit the Amarena cherries and juice. If you haven’t heard of those before, they are delicious dark, ripe cherries preserved in a sugar syrup. You might find them in Italian-style groceries, but Aldi also had them recently! P.S. The ladies of the At the Shore novels would definitely sit down for a glass of this punch on a hot Jersey Shore night. Grab the first book in the series, ONE SUMMER NIGHT, for only 99 cents at https://amzn.to/4o0DtCW.

A Forbidden Side of Me?
For everyone who has been following me, first of all, THANK YOU! But lately you’ve been seeing a side of me that’s all about beach, family, food, gardens, and doggies. But did you know that for a long time, I was known for well…something spicier? Yes, my paranormals pushed the edge, but so do some of my military heroes. Years ago, a friend invited me to do a novella about what happens on one special night. But only one night. It hit me to do a story about a marine who is about to deploy and the woman he’s loved forever. JUST ONE NIGHT was born that day. But as I finished that novella, I thought, why just one? The Take a Chance series was born with that thought. Today, I’m sharing a review for that first book in that series which features military heroes who have only one night to take a chance on love. It’s specially priced at 99 cents at https://amzn.to/4gbku4X.
A Museum with Empty Picture Frames?
I did a lot of research for my upcoming 2027 release, K-9 ON A MISSION which is a story with a morally gray hero who is helping to solve the mystery of an art heist at a Denver museum. I watched at least a dozen or more documentaries about assorted heists of art, gold, and jewelry. I dug deep into how museums like the Louvre were broken into or diamonds were stolen from a high security vault in Antwerp. Fascinating stuff! During one of my reads, I ran across a museum with empty picture frames: the Isabella Stewart Gardner museum in Boston. Why are the frames empty? It turns out that Gardner’s will mandated that nothing in the museum could be changed after her death. If things were altered, it could jeopardize the control/existence of the museum. When some very high-profile artwork was stolen and taken out of its frames, the museum rehung the empty frames on the wall. Besides the will’s terms, maybe symbols of hope that the artwork would one day return? It’s been over 35 years since the theft, though, and this heist remains one of the most famous and interesting in art history! K-9 ON A MISSION hits shelves in April 2027, but you can pre-order your copy today! https://amzn.to/45s63EQ
My Other Life
I had a lovely weekend celebrating a big birthday with my sister and longtime friends with whom I worked for many years. My one friend — the birthday girl — was our law office’s unofficial photographer, always taking photos during office celebrations or candid shots here and there. When the office was about to close, she inherited the photo albums with all the pictures. Over the years, she’s been passing out photos to staff and friends, like this one of me in my office. And no, I didn’t drink on the job. I was lucky to represent the Jose Cuervo company and kept samples of their various bottles in case I needed them for legal actions. I loved my job and the people I worked with. The office politics not so much. Anyway, people often ask if there’s any characters that are like lawyer me, and I would say Connie from WHAT HAPPENS IN SUMMER is the character most like me in some ways while Lara from THE FAMILY SHE NEVER MET has more of me in other ways. Both are career women, but both have a passion for something else. In Connie’s case, it’s control of her life. For Lara, it’s fulfilling her dream of being a writer. Both good goals if you ask me. Goals I strived for over in the many years that I worked full-time as an attorney but also pursued my career as a writer.
Happy National Middle Child Day!
Happy National Middle Child Day! I’m a middle child, but also more like the oldest because there was a ten-year age gap between my brother and me. Today, I’m sharing a very early picture of the three of us. The baby, my sister, is being held by her godparents as she’s being baptized. My brother is off to the right in the photo and I’m the curly-haired toddler being held toward the middle of the photo by my godmother. My dad is off to the left. My mother is not in the photo as back then there was a holdover practice of the mother being absent because she was recuperating. This photo was taken in Cuba and little did we all know that in the months to come, my parents would have to flee and that it would take a couple of years before we were reunited with them in the U.S. If you want a sense of what that was like, some of those experiences have been fictionalized in THE FAMILY SHE NEVER MET which is FREE on Kindle Unlimited at https://amzn.to/45gn7gW.
Happy National Son & Daughter Day!
Happy National Son & Daughter Day! I don’t have a son, but I have a wonderful daughter who has a beautiful son. I also have a lovely sone-in-law, so today I’m celebrating all of them on National Son & Daughter Day! If you have a son or a daughter or both, take a moment to celebrate them with me! P.S. If you’d love a story about a daughter and her estranged mom, you might love THE FAMILY SHE NEVER MET. It’s a special book exploring the relationships with women and how a family overcomes past hurts to come together. Plus, it’s FREE on Kindle Unlimited at https://amzn.to/45gn7gW.
