#ThrowbackThursday My Mom & Old Time Grace

Whenever I see this picture, I think of how more formal people used to be and how the photos they took were filled with what I call “old time grace.” Of course, you didn’t just snap off a selfie back then. I’m sure having a photograph taken was expensive and quite an event, so you wanted to look your best.

This is a photo taken of my mom in Spain, I think. My grandparents had gone back to visit family before they returned to Cuba. My grandparents had plans to return to Spain to live, but the Spanish Civil War broke out and my grandparents just never got back there.

Many many years later, we would all have to flee Cuba and come to the U.S. and my grandfather would never see his native land again. My family finally visited Spain in 1973 to see where my grandparents had come from in Galicia and to find the family that had gotten lost over the years.

Anyway, my beautiful and adorable mother! Isn’t she lovely?

#WriteWed Take a Chance Series #Military #Romance & #Giveaway

Wow, oh wow, talk about writing inspiration! I’ve just started STAY THE NIGHT, the next novella in the Take a Chance series and again, Wow! I am having so much fun exploring the conflict between a couple that have become strangers during the husband’s military duty, but still have passion (and maybe more) binding them together.

The hero in the story is Rafe Castillo, a Navy Seal coming home for leave before heading back for his last months of duty. His wife, Elena, was only eighteen when she became pregnant and Rafe’s honor and deep-rooted beliefs made him marry her. Of course, Rafe has kind of been in love with Elena for a very long time otherwise he wouldn’t have become involved with her.

Flash forward three years later and Elena is now a woman. A smart, sexy and independent woman who Rafe almost doesn’t recognize when she meets him at the airport. Elena has a good job, is going to college, has just gotten a promotion complete with a new company car, and she’s bought them a home.

Elena has basically moved on with her life and Rafe is not sure if he has a place in it anymore.

I’m just loving exploring that and the passion between them. I hope you’ll like Stay the Night also when it comes out in late November.

#ManCandyMonday Rafe from Stay the Night

I’m busy working on the next book in the Take a Chance series – Stay the Night. I’ve been having an interesting time of it since this is the story of a married couple who have grown apart over the years of Rafe’s military duty. Elena, Rafe’s wife, has been home and growing and changing over the years while Rafe feels like he’s been left behind, especially when he comes home to a very different, sexier more independent woman, and the home she’s just bought for them. It’s a lot of conflict early on as the couple have to decide if the passion that forced them into a marriage as teens has enough love to let them build a future together.

In an early scene in the book, Rafe is recollecting the first time he and Elena made love on the beach. I was looking for photos for today and this one caught my eye. I could picture a young Rafe resting beneath a pier, waiting for Elena for another of their passionate night time encounters.

Happy Halloween Treats & Pictures from the Past

Happy Happy Halloween! I just love today and seeing all the kids (and adults) get dressed up and have some fun! Today I’ve got some pictures for you from some of our past Halloweens as well as my Pinterest board for Halloween. That’s where I store up ideas for all kinds of Halloween treats and things.

The very first photo is of me and my daughter on her very first Halloween. She was just over two months old and wearing an “I love Mummy” outfit! LOL!

#ThrowbackThursday A New York City Christmas & ONE LAST NIGHT

I love the Jersey Shore which is why I set so many of my books there, including the first two novellas in the Take a Chance series. But I also love New York City and have likewise set a number of books there, including almost all of The Calling is Reborn Vampire Novel series.

One Last Night New Adult Erotic Romance For a chance of pace, I decided to set the third novella in the Take a Chance series, ONE LAST NIGHT, in New York City.

Today’s Throwback Thursday are some photos that I took in 2011 during our annual Christmas jaunt to NYC!

We love going into the city and getting a chance to be tourists for a change. When you live or work somewhere, you sometimes don’t get the opportunity to really see how unique it is, so this is our time to explore and enjoy things we might normally miss.

#WriteWed Why I Love America & Support Our Military

**WARNING** Some may think that what I am about to say is a little political which is something I don’t normally do, but I want you to understand why I love America and why I support our military through things like these charity campaigns that I do with my books.

Many of you know I was not born here. I am a refugee from Cuba. I come from a country where basic freedoms are denied its people. I came to a country that permits its citizens to express their views and where you can be anything you want to be if you are willing to work hard enough for it.

America is my home now and I love it. I honor its traditions and history. I respect its values and believe it to be a wonderful place.

There are many Americans who think otherwise, I know. They say America is bad and has done bad things. I think of all the amazing things it’s done for people like me and other people around the world and I wonder, Why are there so many self-hating Americans? Why can’t they see the wonder of this totally exceptional country? Why are they trying to fundamentally change a Nation that has accomplished so much in so little time?

But beyond that, I know that this Nation would not be what it is and that its people would not have the freedoms that they do without the sacrifices of our military men, women and their families. It is their service that keeps us free and able to express our opinions, something that so many people around the world cannot do because they live in tyranny.
