Fun Friday – Adorable Puppies

It’s Friday! Can’t wait for the weekend! Going to get some writing done since I have some good news. I’ve been asked to be part of a vampire holiday anthology for HQN. Too exciting!! My story is about two vampires fighting over the life of a guardian angel and their own eternal souls on Christmas Eve. Having a blast writing it.

Here’s a little something to put a smile on your face this morning! Some fun Jack Russell terrier puppy antics.

Hope you all have good weekend. On Monday I am having a B’day Bash since it’s my birthday. I’ll be at the Philadelphia Flower Show, but drop by and leave a comment by midnight PST on Monday’s blog post for a chance to win a $25 B&N Gift Card!

Thursday 13 – Conference Tips!

On the 19th I’ll be at the wonderful Liberty States Fiction Writers Create Something Magical Conference. It’s a great event with some awesome workshops and 20+ editors and agents taking pitches. Plus, there are going to be a bunch of gift baskets, including one with a Kindle, some nice giveaways and a book fair that’s open to the public. If you’ll be in the Woodbridge, NJ area that Saturday, please drop by. The book fair is from 5:30 to 7 pm on March 19th.

So with that conference at hand, today’s Thursday 13 is all about some conference tips. Here goes.

1. Have a business card at hand, even if you’re not published. You want to start making connections and people need to know how to reach you.

2. Mingle. Make connections.

3. Don’t mingle. LOL, yes a little bit of a contradiction, but you need to learn body language. If two people are close together and in a serious discussion, it’s not the right time to butt in.

4. Enjoy yourself. Yes, it’s work, but it’s also a chance for you to unwind.

5. Choose your workshops carefully. Make sure they are ones that fit a need that you have.

6. Dress professionally.

7. Dress comfortably. You can do 6 and 7 and it’s important to find that balance. If you’re not comfortable, those vibes carry to others.

8. Don’t drink too much. You can’t believe how often I’ve seen people break this rule.

9. If meals are being served, choose a table where you can meet new people.

10. If you’ve got the time to spare, stay after the conference ends and the fun time begins. It’s part of networking, but it’s also part of finding time to share with other creative people. It can be really rejuvenating.

11. Prepare your pitch. Stand in front of a mirror or sit with a friend and practice it. See if it sounds natural.

12. Don’t be nervous in front of the editors and agents. They don’t bite. Really they don’t.

13. Have fun! You’ve probably spent some money to attend, travel, stay, get new clothes, etc. Take the time to enjoy yourself a little.

Hope you found these tips helpful! Hope to see you at the book fair!

Guilty Pleasure Matthew Morrison

I’m not a Gleek, but I do enjoy watching the show every now and then. I wish I could watch it more often, but as much as hubby loves musicals, once a week is pushing it. I should probably DVR it for those Saturday and Sunday morning writing marathons!

Today’s Guilty Pleasure is head Gleek Matthew Morrison. If you’re still not sure about his hotness, click here to check out this picture of Matthew and his six pack abs from the latest VOGUE magazine!

But for now, here he is on today’s Guilty Pleasure Monday!

To Boldly Go Where No Romance Writer Has Gone Before…

The Discovery shuttle took off for the last time yesterday. It made me sad. So much has been sacrificed to make space travel possible. So many new things have been invented and made their way into the everyday thanks to our quest to explore space.

I remember growing up, imagining myself living in space or visiting another planet. When the first STARS WARS movie came out, my hubby/then boyfriend and I sat on line for hours to see the movie. Like me, he had grown up on a fare of science fiction and space movies and envisioned the future in space.

Well, NASA may be headed in directions other than space these days, but it’s still possible for me to imagine myself out there, isn’t it? So today I bring you, Caridad boldly going somewhere silly in a spoof from STAR WARS! If you can’t see the video below, please click here.

Wicked Wednesday – THE FIFTH KINGDOM Romantic Suspense

THE FIFTH KINGDOM Romantic Suspense by Caridad PineiroWhen I was busy thinking about AZTEC GOLD atop that Mexican pyramid (and also wondering how I’d ever get down), I was also envisioning how I could use the locale for another of my favorite things – a romantic suspense novel.

That’s how THE FIFTH KINGDOM was born. I wondered what would happen if someone found something very important, like the tomb of the last great Aztec leader Montezuma. A find like that would have great historic and symbolic significance, especially since only one other such tomb has been found. Of course my writer’s mind then envisioned what would happen if there was something dangerous in the tomb. Something that could do great harm if it fell into the wrong hands. Add a sexy and wounded CIA agent and the daughter of a missing archeologist, who hasn’t seen her mother in nearly 14 years. Shake and you’ve got a romantic suspense novel.

What I liked most about this novel was surprisingly not the action and adventure, but the fragile understanding that develops between Bill Santana, the CIA Agent, and Deanna Vasquez, the daughter who also happens to be a well-known historian in her own right. They are both wounded souls who come to discover that maybe having family is not as bad as they both thought.

Without further ado, a short excerpt from THE FIFTH KINGDOM which will be out in July 2011 from Carina Press.
