Like Diana Reyes, Ryder Latimer has appeared (and will appear) in every book in THE CALLING Vampire series. Ryder is the perfect foil for the headstrong and domineering Diana.

In the early 1860s, Ryder Latimer was the owner of a rice plantation outside of New Orleans as well as a physician. When the Civil War broke out, Ryder went to war, using his medical skills to help others.

He was tending to some wounded soldiers after a battle just outside of Tennessee when he and his group of medics and doctors were set upon by maurading vampires. Samantha Turner (TEMPTATION CALLS) turned Ryder to save him from the injuries inflicted by her fellow vampires. This was Samantha’s way of repaying Ryder for his kindness. Years earlier, Ryder had taken care of Samantha when she was beaten by her husband and nearly lost her life.

It was his best friend, Dr. William Danvers, who found a wounded Ryder and took care of him. It was William who was with him when they realized that Ryder was now a vampire. For many centuries, being Ryder’s keeper is a legacy passed on to every first-born Danvers. The latest Danvers to be Ryder’s keeper is Melissa Danvers (DANGER CALLS).

In his many centuries of life, Ryder has been all throughout the world, but settled in New York City in the early 1920s during the depression. Ryder has managed to amass a good amount of wealth from wise investments and owns several properties and businesses, including THE LAIR, a vampire-themed club.

Ryder hates his vampire existence and has despaired about its eternal loneliness for over a century as he has watched all his loved ones die and the world change around him. For that reason, he kept his emotional connection to solely the Danvers keepers who have served him over the years . . . until he met Diana Reyes.

Now Ryder has something interesting and alive in his life. He also has a new group of vampire friends who are teaching him that there are some benefits to his new existence.
