Taking a Break…

I am soooo busy working on the next Diana and Ryder novel, BORN TO SERVE, which will be out in January 2013. It is soooo exciting to be working with some of my favorite characters of all time! I’ve already started to update THE CALLING site for the launch of the next 5 (yes five) books in THE CALLING/THE REBORN series starting in December 2012.

I hope you’ll forgive me then if I take a little break this week since I want to focus on that novel, although I will try to jump on later in the week to share some Christmas photos and some shore photos (where I’m taking my writing break!)

But be sure to drop by tomorrow for a guest visit from one of my fellow authors, Amanda Arista!

THE REBORN Vampire Romance Novels

2011 Romance Author Hotspot Holiday Bash

Just putting my feet up after a day of prepping for the big Christmas Eve dinner and festivities. I hope you are all almost done with your holiday work and ready to enjoy this holiday weekend.

I’ll be up bright and early tomorrow morning to get the pork roasting and start prepping the sauce for the stuffed calamari. Then it’s off to do some final decorating and lots more cooking until it’s time for the company to arrive and the party begins!

I’ll be back on Monday and in the meantime, take a moment to stop by the 2011 Romance Author Hotspot Holiday Bash where I will be popping in soon and where you can win a mess of prizes from a number of authors.

Just click here to check out the rules and find out what’s happening and when. In the meantime, wishing you all the best for an awesome holiday!

Merry Christmas & Feliz Navidad

First of all, take a moment to visit with me at Mina Khan’s blog as I chat about what inspires me to write. It might just surprise you!

Then please stay around for my contribution to the 2011 Holiday Blog Tour. Many thanks to Icess Fernandez for doing such a great job of getting it organized for us.

What Christmas means to me

Call me a cockeyed optimist, but I believe in the inherent goodness of people. I’ve been blessed with many instances in my life where that goodness has been demonstrated so it’s hard not to believe in that.

It also seems to me that at this time of year, that goodness seems to be more visible and I’m thankful for that. There are just too many people lately intent on breeding a culture of hate with their them versus us mentalities.

They seem to forget about that goodness and how the hearts of the American people are much bigger than they believe.

Just look around you this and every Christmas. Look at the random acts of kindness, like the Layaway Angels. Look at those who without being asked help someone in need or who reach into their pockets to drop that spare change in the Salvation Army bucket.

For me, Christmas is all about being kind, just as centuries ago someone was kind so that Jesus had a place to be born.

Over the course of my life, I have been lucky to see that kindness over and over. When we first came here, things were tough. I was a stranger in a strange land with little money, but many opportunities and the reality of it was, most people were welcoming. They shared of themselves in many ways.

I remember quite fondly the various neighbors who would gather to celebrate the holidays in Levittown, each bringing with them a bit of their traditions (although I could never really acquire a taste for the pickled herring our Polish neighbors would offer up.) I remember those neighbors banding together to celebrate when my parents became citizens and the flag they had asked to be flown over the Capitol to commemorate that special event. It sits proudly in my hall to remind me that kindness comes in all different ways and that being in America is a precious gift not to be wasted.

This Christmas, take a moment to think about all your blessings and what you can do to make a difference. There will always be someone better off than you and sadly, someone worse off. But all of us together can truly make a difference for the better.

Know someone who will be alone for the holidays? Invite them into your home.

Have a few extra dollars? Buy a small toy and put it in the Toys for Tots box.

Have some free time? Volunteer for something. Anything.

Here’s an even easier one: Smile. Offer someone a kind word and a smile. Sometimes that can mean all the difference in someone’s day.

Leaving you with that thought, a big cyber smile and hug, I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas. To all my Jewish friends, wishing the best for Chanukah. To everyone else, may you have a wonderful holiday season!

Take a moment to visit the other blog stops and find out about what other people are doing this holiday season!!

Sharing Christmas in NYC with you!

Every year my family and I do our annual trip to New York City to take in all the Christmas sights and decorations. It’s always a great time and we’ve got our little routine we follow. We start off in Penn Station and then walk to Macy’s and then Lord and Taylor to see the Christmas windows. Then it’s to the Research Library on 5th and 42nd to check out the exhibits and lovely reading room as well as Bryant Park, the Pond and shops behind the library.

Sadly, we got to the library too early this year and it was closed, but that made for some extra time for something old – St. Patrick’s Cathedral – and something new – a walk through Tiffany’s and Cartier to check out some bling.

While we were near St. Pat’s, we hit Rockefeller Center to see the tree, promenade and skating rink as well as the NBC store. My daughter is totally in love with PSYCH and they have collectibles from that and a number of other shows.

Then it was walk up Fifth Avenue, including Tiffany’s and Cartier (sigh, such pretty things) and over to Grand Army Plaza and Central Park. We hurried up to Columbus Circle and then pushed on until we were in Lincoln Center where we had tickets to see THE NUTCRACKER. It was lovely as allows and after a quick dinner, it was back to Penn Station and the trip home on the train.

So much to see, but it was a lot of fun. Just a bit chilly with weather in the twenties, but at least it was sunny and pretty nice outside.

I hope you enjoy these photos! If you can’t see the slideshow, you can click here to see the album.

#ManCandyMonday Mikhail Barishnikov

Yesterday we did our annual outing to NYC to see all the Christmas sights! I’ll have pictures for you tomorrow, but in the meantime, that trip included our traditional visit to see THE NUTCRACKER at Lincoln Center which got me wondering about sharing with you some of my favorite dancing Man Candy – Mikhail Barishnikov!

It’s always amazing to me to see how the male ballet dancers (aka danseurs) lift the ballerinas high with carefully controlled strength or leap across the stage with dazzling jetes, seemingly hanging in mid-air at times. I understand that’s called ballon and it never fails to make me hold my breath.

Because of that, I decided to share with you probably one of the best danseurs of our time – Mikhail Barishnikov doing a ballet from WHITE NIGHTS. Mikhail also received an Oscar nomination for his role as a womanizing dancer in TURNING POINT.

If you like dance and/or ballet and have not seen either of these movies, I would highly recommend them.

Hope you enjoy this Man Candy Monday!
