#ThrowbackThursday Wedding Inspiration for ONE SUMMER NIGHT

I’ve always been a beach girl. Growing up on Long Island, a lot of my summer was spent on Jones Beach and now that I’m a Jersey Girl, I spend as much time as I can down the Jersey Shore. When the idea came to me for the At the Shore series, there was no doubt that there would be a wedding on the beach for one or more of my Jersey Girls. Years ago, hubby and I attended a fabulous wedding in California and as I started to write the wedding scenes for ONE SUMMER NIGHT, I remembered that West Coast wedding and thought about how a New Jersey version might look. Here’s a photo from the California wedding. Gorgeous, isn’t it?

#ManCandyMonday Suit or Surfer? You decide!

So what’s sexier? A man in a suit (or getting out of it) or a sexy surfer dude? That’s the choice I had when writing the Pierce brothers, Owen and Jonathan, for the At the Shore Contemporary Romance Series.

Owen is Mr. Suit, all buttoned up and responsible until he does the unthinkable and falls in love with the daughter of his father’s bitter enemy in ONE SUMMER NIGHT.

Jonathan, Mr. Surfer Dude, is the rebel who is always in search of something new and different until he meets a woman who has planned every aspect of her life – except him of course. Look for his story and Connie’s in WHAT HAPPENS IN SUMMER.

So what’s sexier? Or are the Pierce brothers both sexy men?

#ThrowbackThursday My Pride and Joy Helping Others After Hurricane Sandy

It’s been five years since Hurricane Sandy barreled into New Jersey wreaking havoc in so many places and forever changing so many towns, especially along the Jersey Shore.

My daughter had only just opened her surf and skate shop when Sandy hit her quaint town. She was lucky that her shop didn’t suffer physical damage although the town did. Parts of the town were flooded, the boardwalk was destroyed in sections, the Great Auditorium was damaged, and a large portion of a fishing pier disappeared into the surf.

In addition to the physical damage, the economic downturn was devastating to so many small businesses including my daughter’s. But as much as she was hurting, that didn’t stop her from helping others. She sold tickets to a One Direction concert that she had fought hard to get and saved to by and she donated that money and a portion of her surf and skate shop’s income to the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting association so they could rebuild and help local residents affected by Hurricane Sandy.

Here are some photos of the day my daughter went to present them with a check for their rebuilding efforts. I am so proud of her and the kind and giving person she is!

#ThoughtfulTuesday Help Us Help Women Receiving Treatment for Cancer

I had just turned 22 when the doctors said my mom had cancer. Nothing in the world could have prepared me for that or for what would follow in the next few months. It was difficult to watch my mom, who was my friend and mentor as well as my mom, suffer and fade away. Just over a decade later, my father passed from the same disease.

It was no easier when nearly 12 years ago I heard the word again, only this time the Big C had come for me. I was lucky to have doctors who listened to my first complaint that something wasn’t right and even luckier to have the best doctors to treat me.

When I decided to do a book launch, I thought it would be fun to do it in my daughter’s store since it’s mentioned in ONE SUMMER NIGHT and then in more detail in WHAT HAPPENS IN SUMMER (#2 in the At the Shore series). But I also wondered what the two of us could do to help others while we celebrated my new release.

For that reason, a portion of the proceeds from book sales and sales at my daughter’s store during the book launch party will be donated to Mary’s Place by the Sea, a respite for women receiving treatment for cancer. Since some of you may not be able to make that book launch party in person, I will also be making donations for every copy of ONE SUMMER NIGHT sold from October 22 to October 29, whether online or in a book store!

If you are in the area, I’d love to see you! Here is the information for the book launch party!

    October 29 – 2 pm to 5 pm
(formerly October 22 rescheduled due to conflict)
    Book Launch Party at
    OG Surf and Skate
    53 Main Avenue
    Ocean Grove, NJ 07756

#ManCandyMonday Owen Pierce from One Summer Night

I loved Owen from ONE SUMMER NIGHT from the moment he popped into my head. I knew he would be responsible, loyal, sexy and honest (although the last one was hard since I knew he was going to walk a fine line in order to have a relationship with Maggie.)

When I pictured Owen, he was always in a fabulous bespoke suit which fit his profession as a real estate tycoon. Even in casual clothes Owen was very buttoned up, but watch out ladies when it’s time for him to let go!

So what’s better than Owen in one of his sexy power suits? How about Owen out of one?

#FunFriday Sexy or not? You pick the teaser!

I’ve always been partial to stories that have a little sexiness because I not only like seeing how the emotional relationship develops in a romance, but where it leads. I also like romances where the hero and heroine are equals in the relationship, supporting and helping each other through tough times. That’s the vibe I was striving for in ONE SUMMER NIGHT. A blend of partnership, sexiness, playfulness and tenderness. So how do I get that point across? Take a look at these teasers and let me know which one you prefer. The top one or the bottom or both? Which one grabs you?

#WisdomWednesday – Is bad publicity good publicity?

There are some things that most writers have on their bucket list, including hitting the NY Times Bestseller List. If you write anything other than romance, you might also have “appear in the New York Times Book Review” on that list. As a romance writer, being in the Book Review was not on my list mainly because the NY Times normally doesn’t pay much attention to us. They even got rid of the Mass Market Fiction list which is where a lot of romance writers might appear on a list.

Imagine my surprise when I got a note from my publisher that I might be in the Times. It was like a WHAT? REALLY? And sure enough, Mr. Robert Gottlieb included ONE SUMMER NIGHT in his “Round Up of Romance” http://nyti.ms/2xxXZ78.

I have to admit that when I first read the review, I didn’t know what to make of it (besides the weirdness factor of having an 86 year old man think that ” The sex between Maggie and Owen is equally delicious . . .”)

And then came all the commentary about the “Round Up of Romance” and the ensuing justification by the NY Times Editor for choosing Mr. Gottlieb to review romance and the manner in which he reviewed it (see below).

So for today, I’d be interested in hearing your take on the “Round Up of Romance” and whether bad publicity is just as good as good publicity.
