Funny Friday – Witty Words from the Washington Post

laugh.gifMy friend Liz Kimberlin passed on a list words that supposedly come from the Washington Post’s Mensa Invitational, which invites readers to take any word from the dictionary and alter it by adding, subtracting or changing one letter to produce a new definition. You can find out more about the supposed Mensa contest as well as the complete list of words by clicking here. Following are some of my favorites!

Anyone who has bought a home which is historic (translation way old) or quaint (bordering on small) or has potential (needs renovations) or has watched THE MONEY PIT totally understands this new word:

  • Cashtration (n.): The act of buying a house, which renders the
subject financially impotent for an indefinite period of time.

Thoughtful Thursday – The Values Hollywood Glorifies

I was sad to hear of Heath Ledger’s passing in New York, apparently from some kind of drug overdose. I remember first seeing him in one of my favorite movies, 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU. I thought there was something undeniably charismatic about him, crazy hair notwithstanding. With his OSCAR-nominated appearance in BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, he seemed on his way to being one of the best actors of his generation. Guilty Pleasures Monday – THE CALLING Heads to South Beach

alex2.jpgNope, you read that right! THE CALLING is headed to Miami next year. After FURY CALLS, which will feature sexy punk vampire Blake Richards and Meghan Thomas, we’re going to take a little trip south for a change of pace in ARDOR CALLS. Or should I say Stacia is going to be heading down to South Beach.

You may remember Blake and Stacia from DESIRE CALLS, but if you haven’t had a chance to read that novella, you can do that free read by clicking here. Continue reading “Guilty Pleasures Monday – THE CALLING Heads to South Beach”

Funny Friday – When Insults Had Class

argue.gifMy friend and fellow author Irene Peterson sent me a list of insults from a time when insults had class. Seemed appropriate considering the Thoughtful Thursday discussion about the insults toward the Romance genre.

So here’s some of the finer attacks!

Thoughtful Thursday – Back to Bashing Romance

Bashing Romance AgainYou may have seen the news and the surrounding brouhaha about the alleged acts of plagarism by bestseller Cassie Edwards. In case you’ve missed it, you can check out the allegations at the Smart Bitches blog.

It’s disturbing to think that a writer of 100 novels with 10 million copies in print may have committed these acts. I say “alleged” and “may have” because I won’t jump on the band wagon to pillory this woman. There are enough people out there doing that.

What I will take a moment to point out is that whether Ms. Edwards is guilty or innocent, there is one huge nameless victim out there — the Romance genre since some have taken the opportunity to bash Romance in their discussions about what Ms. Edwards is claimed to have done. Wicked Wednesday – A Wickedly Good Review and Nomination!

It’s always nice to hear from all of you or to find out online that someone really enjoyed your book! This week it’s been a dose of doubly good online news about two different books. The new, but promising to be wonderful blogspot, PASSION POSTINGS, offered up a great review of the SOUTH BEACH CHICAS books.

As exciting, I just found out that BLOOD CALLS has been nominated for a FANTASM award at the Science Fiction, Fantasy and Paranormal Blogspot. Here are the nominees for Best Vampire Romance of 2008: Continue reading “Wicked Wednesday – A Wickedly Good Review and Nomination!”

Guilty Pleasures Monday – Football Players

football1.jpgI have to confess. I spent part of Saturday and Sunday watching football. I haven’t done it in years, but this year hubby and I got back into watching the Jets and Giants.

We won’t even talk about the Jets, but the Giants have been a pleasant surprise. Yesterday’s game was amazing. A 48 second touchdown drive and a second half defense that held back the Cowboys. Go Giants! Don’t think they’ll beat Old Man Brett Favre and the Packers, but I can hope. Continue reading “Guilty Pleasures Monday – Football Players”
