Fun Friday – GMA Concert Series

Last year's Concert SeriesYou know I love walking through Bryant Park, but it’s even more fun when it’s time for the Good Morning America Summer Concert Series! I get a kick out of seeing the crowds and stars, not to mention all the prep for these events. In years past, I’ve stopped to listen to the sound checks for Rascal Flats, The Beach Boys and Michelle Branch. The crowds last year for Miley Cyrus were huge, wrapping around the park at least twice. I suspect they’ll be as big this year for her and my daughter’s latest loves — The Jonas Brothers.

So if you’ll be in New York City on a Friday, or just have Friday free to come hang out, check out the GMA Concert Series, but be sure to arrive early! The crowds start lining up well before 7 a.m. when the concerts “officially” start. (Click here to check web cam images of the park which catch the concert series. The webcam updates every 10 minutes).

Here’s the upcoming schedule and you can click here to check on the dates as well!

Friday, May 16 — Josh Groban
Friday, May 23 — Counting Crows
Friday, May 30 — Usher
Friday, June 6 — Ashanti and guest
Friday, June 13 –Cyndi Lauper
Friday, June 20 — Boyz II Men
Friday, June 27 — Maroon 5
Friday, July 4 — Chaka Kahn
Friday, July 18 — Miley Cyrus
Friday, Aug 1 — Broadway cast of the hit musical “Rent”
Friday, Aug 8 — The Jonas Brothers

What else is fun for this Friday? Well, interleague play starts for Major League Baseball. I don’t know what that means in your city, but in NYC it means SUBWAY SERIES between the Mets and Yankees. You know who I’ll be rooting for, of course. GO METS!

Fun Friday – Bling for the Web

My daughter and her friends loved the Web Dollz that you could create online. I found the Dollzmania site and it’s lots of fun. You can create all kinds of Dollz and things like this Blinkie. You can also create glitter graphics with all different sayings and the like.

The best part about it! You don’t have to register and it’s free so you can bling up your website, Myspace or Facebook to your heart’s content! They do have a members section with even more, but I like to bling without registering.

So, if you’ve got some time to play, visit Dollzmania and check out all their cool stuff.

Happy Friday!

Fun Friday – Dancing with the . . .

Caridad and Big John at the Ellora's Cave party at RTThis Fun Friday is all about dancing! That’s me and Big John, tripping the light fantastic at the Ellora’s Cave party at RT. Well, at least I’m trying to dance since unfortunately, I’m a Cuban who can’t shake her booty. I can just about keep the rhythm of the beat and maybe do a little move now and then.

I guess that’s why I secretly have watched Dancing with the Stars off and on. I really admire people who can dance. My mom and dad could really dance and as a kid I’d sit on the stairs and watch them during a party when I should have been in bed. They were so graceful and enjoyed it so much.

How about you? Can you shake your booty or move your groove thing (that is about dancing, right? Vertical dancing, correct?)Don’t know what kind of dancing you do?

Well then, check out this very funny take on the Evolution of Dance from Judson Laipply! Watch and try to think about how many of these evolutionary phases you’ve danced through in your life.

Fun Friday – Clowning Around

Courtesy Microsoft Word Clip ArtI got an e-mail today about Getting Clowned and I just had to check it!

Ringling Bros. Circus, which has been making its rounds in our area (Philly April 16-27), has a site where you can send a buddy an e-mail pie-in-the-face. Check it out www.igotclowned.com.

I don’t know about you, I’ve always found clowns to be kind of funny. My mom, however, never liked clowns. She had seen the famous Emmett Kelly and thought he was so sad. She could never shake his sadness whenever she saw a clown.

Anyway, start this Friday by clowing one of your friends with a pie-in-the-face! If you’re sending it my way, make sure it’s either cherry or peach and don’t forget the whipped cream!

Finally, a big thanks to the Maryland Romance Writers for a wonderful night! You rock!

Fun Friday – A Renaissance Woman

Renaissance Artist courtesy of Microsoft Word Clip ArtWhen I was younger, I was more of a Renaissance woman, but my current responsibilities have really curtailed a lot of what I used to do.

I was an athlete for starters. Played field hockey, volleyball, softball and tennis. Even gave basketball a shot ’cause my 5 foot mom had once played for her team. Basketball was clearly not my sport, although I play a mean game of 21.

I used to play the bassoon in several orchestras. What’s a bassoon? It’s the long instrument that looks like a bazooka and sounds like a foghorn. My music teacher told me it was just like a clarinet when he convinced me to take it up (SO NOT like a clarinet as you can see!)

Used to sing, but my voice was so low they shoved me in with the boys in the choir. I’m still an alto, but can carry a tune usually in the shower.

I used to read a lot more, but sadly my TBR pile looks like Mount Everest now and last but not least, I used to draw. Pastels, charcoals, watercolors and pen and ink. Not great, but not so awful you couldn’t tell that it was supposed to be a house and not a toaster.

Of course, drawing/painting are demanding in so many ways that writing is not, namely, SUPPLIES. All you need to write are a pen, paper and imagination. For art, there’s a lot more necessary supply-wise, but I’ve found a solution for you this Fun Friday — the free artpad software at Artpad.com. Just click here to begin creating. You can even save your artwork for others to explore.

So this Fun Friday, take a minute to explore your inner Picasso or Van Gogh!

Hope you all have a great weekend.

For those of you in the Lancaster area, I’ll be signing books on Saturday from 1 to 3 at the Borders located at 828 Park City Center, Lancaster, PA 17601; (717)299-0905. The mall website is www.parkcitycenter.com and the Borders store is in the Sears wing.

I’ll be signing with my friend and fellow author Gwyn Cready who is celebrating the release of her first novel, Tumbling Through Time.
