Blurb

ColorOfDangerCoverNewFormer runaway Mari Del Lobo works hard to save her struggling restaurant and to trust people again. Dallas surgeon Dr. Luke Goodman turns her world upside down with terrifying news. A recent murder has her late brother’s – aka the Smiling Killer – signature and MO. When attacks on her escalate, Mari fights her growing attraction to the good doctor as fiercely as she fights for her life. To rescue herself and those she loves, will she be able to stop the murderer before he strikes again?

Luke couldn’t save his fiancée from the Smiling Killer, but he’ll do anything to prevent more murders, even ask help from the serial killer’s sister. Finding a kindred tortured soul and the perpetrator’s next target in Mari, Luke is determined to protect the stubborn ex-rebel. But Mari would rather face danger than risk the safety of the man she comes to love.

Teaser

Luke approached the road Mari was taking at ninety degrees. Her motorcycle was dashing between cars. His jaw dropped. Was someone after her?

Saying a quick prayer for her safety, he floored the gas pedal and came to the intersection at full speed.

Ignoring the red light, he turned to the right, wedging himself into traffic before the oncoming car.

Angry honking exploded behind him. But he could only concentrate on Mari’s figure that was rapidly disappearing in front of him. With no opening to his left, he passed the car in front of him by driving on the shoulder. Now he had a duet of honking cars. Shrugging it off, he moved to the left, afraid she was running away from somebody. But what if it was her usual way of driving?

He turned on his left blinker, and the car in the passing lane slowed down, letting him in, probably the driver figuring it was safer anyway. He repeated the maneuver several times and arrived at The Café’s parking lot.

Mari’s lanky figure was moving toward the entrance. He jumped out of his car and gave chase. He caught up with her before she reached the door.

“What was it?” He was breathing hard. “Was somebody after you? Or do you like riding between cars?”

“I do.” She turned around.

He clenched his teeth. What was she thinking? “You were putting yourself and other people in danger!”

“But I haven’t done it for an adrenaline rush in forever. And not this time. Somebody tried to run me off the road. I had to get away.”

Cold ran down his back. “How do you know?”

“Something about the way he was trying to hit my motorcycle might have given him away.” Mari placed her hands on her hips, but her lower lip trembled slightly. “The guy was wearing dark glasses, a gray T-shirt, and a cowboy hat. Not much to go on. He was driving a black SUV with tinted windows.”

The same type of car that had rushed out of the hospital parking lot the night before. “Did you get the license plate number?”

Teasing sparks danced in her eyes, and her lip wasn’t trembling anymore. “Nope. I was too busy trying not to be run off the road. I’ll text Aidan about it regardless. By the way, I have doubts now you’re the one threatening me. You couldn’t be in SUV and your car at the same time.”

“Thanks. I think.” He heaved a sigh of relief. “I don’t believe you helped Antonio to kill those girls. And I’m sure you didn’t kill June.”

“Because I was at The Café at the time. You checked my alibi, didn’t you?” She narrowed her eyes.

“That, too. Do you trust me now?”

“I don’t have much choice. We have to find the murderer before he kills somebody else, me included. One more thing. I probably overreacted at home,” Mari said.

Luke opened his arms, and she accepted his embrace. He stroked her short hair, so soft under his fingertips, and her fragile shoulders, and his heart melted. How was it possible that in such a short time she’d become so important to him? Her fight was his fight now.

“I’ll keep you safe,” he whispered.

Mari was still alive, and he’d gained some of her trust back.

Probably just in time. It seemed that with Mari every extra day she lived was already a victory.

#TeaserTuesday BLOOD AND MAGIC by Ann Gimpel & #Giveaway

BLOODANDMAGICThis Teaser Tuesday I have a guest blog from my friend and fellow author Ann Gimpel! Ann’s new paranormal romance just released and she’s here to share a teaser, video trailer, excerpt and giveaway! So please welcome Ann to the blog.

Can Luke conquer his past and claim the only woman he’s ever loved?

Blurb: Magic didn’t just find Luke Caulfield. It chased him down, bludgeoned him, and has been dogging him ever since. Some lessons are harder than others. Luke survives by embracing danger and upping the ante to give it one better. An enforcer for the Coven, a large, established group of witches, his latest assignment is playing bodyguard to the daughter of Coven leaders.

Abigail Ruskin is chaperoning a spoiled twelve-year-old from New York to her parents’ home in Utah Territory when Luke gets on their stagecoach in Colorado. A powerful witch herself, Abigail senses Luke’s magic, but he’s so overwhelmingly male, she shies away from contact. Stuck between the petulant child and Luke’s raw sexual energy, Abigail can’t wait for the trip to end.

Wraiths, wolves, and humans with dark magick attack. Unpleasant truths surface about the child and Abigail’s well-ordered world crashes around her. Luke’s so attracted to Abigail, she’s almost all he can think about, but he’s leery too. In over his head, he summons enforcer backup. Will they help him save the woman he’s falling in love with, or demand her immediate execution?

Excerpt:

…It wasn’t Luke but a long, drawn-out shriek that brought Abigail thumping back to consciousness, her heart hammering triple time in her chest. Eyes wide and staring against the darkness, she warded herself just in time. Strong magic battered her. She tried to sense Luke, but that was the problem with wards. They protected by forming an impenetrable barrier and corralled her magic inside.

Whatever was pummeling her seemed to have given up. She risked chinking enough of a hole in her warding to send a tendril of magic outward because she needed information. When it came, it terrified her so badly, her heart stuttered. Dark things surrounded them: wraiths, mad wolves—those who’d been turned to serve the other side—and humans who’d sold their immortal souls for forbidden knowledge. Had the girl rallied them? How could she possibly be that powerful? Luke didn’t seem to be anywhere. Abigail hoped he’d concealed himself out of harm’s way, because the two of them couldn’t make the slightest dent in the dark horde outside. The stagecoach rocked and she realized someone was climbing onto the roof. Throat so dry she could barely breathe, she mended her warding.

The books. That’s what they want… Let them haul the miserable things out of here. She knew she should risk heaven and hell to keep such knowledge out of dark hands, but Abigail didn’t see how throwing her life away would alter the outcome. She heard voices speaking the Satanic tongue, and then dragging sounds as someone transferred the trunk to the ground. Luke shouldn’t have bothered to put it back up top, she thought grimly.

What had the Girauds been doing with such arcane tomes in the first place? She supposed there was the slightest chance they’d been protecting them from falling into the wrong hands. Yes, by all means, let’s give Coven members the benefit of the doubt. Except it was a struggle, and she didn’t know who the hell to trust anymore.

She waited until it was absolutely still outside, and a tentative scan told her the dark host she’d sensed earlier had moved on, before loosing her wards. The minute she did, she felt Luke’s energy. He pulled open one of the coach doors. “I scared up a couple of horses from a nearby farm. We need to go after those books—and the girl.”

She fought down the protest that rose to her lips, but it slid out anyway. “There aren’t enough of us.”

“Fixed that problem too.” He smiled grimly. “I can ward you if you want to stay here, but if you’re coming we need to get moving. Don’t want to let the trail get too cold.” From the smirk in his voice, she knew he was being sarcastic.

She sent her magic spiraling outward and felt the books pulsing with evil. No way that path would ever get cold. “Why couldn’t I feel them this strongly before? I know the trunk had to have been spelled, but still…”

“The trunk was spelled, and by someone with magic to burn. It’s over in those trees. I guess Carolyn’s minions were in a hurry and didn’t have a wagon.”

Abigail felt like a rube. The book trunk had already been packed and sealed when she’d picked Carolyn up in New York. She’d never even thought to examine it. “Did you see Carolyn?”

“Yup.” His upper lip curled into a sneer. “Caught a glimpse of her riding a mad wolf.”

“Do you suppose there’s some way we could separate her from Goody Osborne?” Abigail bit her lip nervously.

Luke shook his head. “Even if we could—and I don’t think it’s possible—there are too many unknowns. Her parents might have been turned. If that happened, the kid could have embraced evil before it entered her body. By the time we sorted all that out, the dark would have had one too many chances to kill us.”

Abigail winced at the unvarnished truth in his words. Any residual doubts she held about the necessity of destroying the girl melted away. “Yes,” she said through clenched teeth. “I’m coming with you.”

Luke boosted her onto one of the horses. She pulled her skirts out of the way. It was a normal saddle and this was scarcely a time for modesty. Luke vaulted onto his horse, kneeing it, and they took off up the Overland Stage Road at close to a full gallop. “We’re making too much noise,” she sent.

“Doesn’t matter. They’ll expect us to come after them.”

She clung to the horse with her legs, enjoying the feel of not having to ride sidesaddle. Luke’s horse was larger, faster, and soon pulled so far ahead she could barely see him. She kneed her horse, urging it to greater speed, but the animal shied, and then reared. Abigail struggled for balance and called magic to calm the spooked animal. Something sprang at her and knocked her to the ground. She sent killing magic to stop its heart, before realizing what it was. Panting, she crawled out from under a black and gray mad wolf with blood dribbling from its nostrils, and glanced warily about. Were there more of them?

Carolyn stepped from the shadows. It looked as if she was alone, but Abigail suspected otherwise. “What do you want?”

“Simple enough. I plan to use you to get rid of Breana Giraud—and others.” A sneer twisted the girl’s features into something unpleasant. “You think people don’t know you’re part of Coven government?”

Abigail set her mouth in a hard line. “Fine. So the other side knows about me. Question is, who are you really?”

“Don’t you recognize me?” Carolyn stepped closer and turned her face from side to side as if posing for a photographer. “I gave you my name, but I am far more than that.”

She’s arrogant. Perhaps I can use that in some way. Abigail spread her hands in a placating gesture. “Because I’m used to seeing you as Carolyn Giraud, I’m not certain who you are.” She paused for emphasis. “I’d like you to tell me.”

“Certainly.” A feral grin made the child look like something out of a nightmare. “It is always better to know who your adversary is.” Her voice became soft and silky. “I have access to magic you would kill for. You may not know it, but you’d like to work for us.” She laughed, but it sounded more like broken glass shattering against itself, than a twelve-year-old girl’s mirth. “We have real power, not that paltry tripe the Coven settles for.”

Abigail waited. When Carolyn didn’t say anything else, she said, “I’m listening…and considering your offer. Life is always better than the alternative.”

“Ha! They said you couldn’t be turned, but I told them they were wrong. I am The Promised, resurrected out of legend. Goody Osborne was but a start, and this little girl is merely a convenience.” Something like an outraged squawk followed the words, but Goody silenced Carolyn almost immediately. “What I really want is you, Abigail Ruskin.”

Shit! She couldn’t be The Promised… “You mean the Dark Messiah?” Abigail scrunched up her face and held her breath, hoping against hope she’d gotten it wrong.

“The same.” A supercilious expression etched into the girl’s features. “At least the other side has heard of me. Warms my black, black heart.”

“The books—?” Abigail hunted for a connection while she rode herd on terror that threatened to immobilize her, and clouded her judgment. If ever she needed a clear head, it was now, but her mind raced feverishly.

“They weren’t doing the girl’s parents any good moldering away in that underground chamber. I’d actually been searching for them for years.” She flashed a sly smile. “They used to be mine…”

K.M. Fawcett Shares Some Hints on Helping Authors & Her Great New Release – Fearless

We’re very lucky today to have a visit from my good friend and fellow author K.M. Fawcett. Here’s K.M.’s official bio:

K.M. Fawcett writes sci-fi/ paranormal romances, and enjoys stories filled with adventure and strong, kick butt heroes and heroines. She holds the rank of Sandan (3rd degree black belt) in both Isshinryu Karate and in Ryukonkai (Okinawan weapons). She and her husband own Tenchi Isshinryu Karate Dojo in NJ. When not writing or working out at the dojo, K.M. is driving her two children to drum practice and ballet classes.

Now that I’ve said that, let me tell you that she i a fabulous lady and I’m honored to be her friend!

As I mentioned, K.M. is here to give us some hints on how you can help your favorite authors and also, to give us a little peek at her fabulous new release, FEARLESS. So here we go with K.M.’s hints!

Hints for Helping Your Favorite Authors

Thank you so much Caridad for inviting me on the blog today! It’s good to be back.

When it comes to promotion, most authors really don’t want to be a pain in the ass. But they really do need help generating buzz for their books. Unfortunately publishing companies don’t have the budget to spend promoting every book, which leaves mid list and newer authors relying on themselves and their readers to help spread the word. So what can you do to help others discover an author you like? Check out the list below and pick the things you feel comfortable doing. Most are super easy.

    “Like” the author:

You probably already like and follow your favorite authors on Facebook and Twitter but how about on Amazon? Go to their Amazon author page and click the “Like” button in the upper right hand corner. For an example of what this looks like you can click my link and give it a try 😉 (see what I did there) http://www.amazon.com/K.M.Fawcett/e/B00B78JG36/ref=ntt_athr_dp_pel_1

Below the Amazon “Like” button, it says, “Stay up to date.” Click on the sentence “Email me when there are new releases by [Author’s Name].”

Go to the B&N page and click on the “Like” “Share” and “Pin it” buttons for each book.

Tell others about your favorite books and share on social media. Add the book’s cover picture to Pinterest & Instagram. Post to Facebook and Twitter. Add a link to Amazon or to the author’s website.

Follow the author’s blog tour for a new release. Some run raffles for free copies of the book!

Share the blog tour information with your friends. I’m sure they’d love a chance to win free stuff too.

Add the author’s books to your Goodreads TO READ list. Rate the books on Goodreads.

Write an honest review for the book.

Goodreads: These can be any length. “Good book” Or “hated it” counts as a review.

Amazon: Requires at least 20 words so it could be as short and simple as, “I read Captive, book 1 in the Survival Race series, by K.M. Fawcett. You know what? I actually liked it.” If you need ideas, how about telling what you liked/ didn’t like about the characters, action, romance, world building, plot, etc… Don’t let the long detailed reviews scare you off. They were most likely written by book reviewers. In addition to helping others decide if this particular book is for them, reviews are important for a book getting into Amazon’s algorithms and for taking advantage of advertisements.

Barnes & Noble: I don’t know if they have a minimum word count requirement.

Give books as gifts. Books make wonderful gifts for birthdays, Valentines Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Graduation, President’s Day, (*shrugs* sure why not?) etc… Buy in bulk and get free shipping from Amazon. 😉

Ask your favorite author if he/she has bookmarks you can leave at local businesses and give to friends.

    Preorder the next book.

If you have any other ideas on how to help generate buzz for your favorite authors’ books, please add them to the comments section below. I’m still learning and would love to hear more ideas. Thanks again for having me here Charity!

Yet no woman’s touch has ever left Kedric more annoyed . . . and aroused. Kedric knows he should shun her soothing embrace-but he can’t seem to stay away. As their passion grows, Kedric must decide between fighting his war or surrendering his rage-and his heart-for Myia’s love.

Excerpt

Angry red streaks snaked through his aura. “What manner of trickery is this?”

“Get off of me, barbarian.” Name-calling? Really? Had her father taught her nothing?

“Barbarian? That’s funny coming from a savage.”

She gasped. “Savage? You’re the one on top of me.”

“As I recall, I wouldn’t be on top of you if I hadn’t needed to protect myself from your tricks.”

“I am a spiritual healer. I only wanted to repair your soul. You must release my people.”

“They’re free to go at any time. They choose to stay.”

His weight was crushing her, making breathing difficult, but she refused to let him see her discomfort. If she could calm herself enough, her spirit could reenter his, and she could try healing him again. This might be the only chance she got before he…What would he do to her?

She didn’t sense anything evil, vile, or malicious. Murder wasn’t present in his aura. The only thing she perceived was arousal. Typical male. Perhaps she could use that to her advantage.

There were three occasions when a person’s spirit was the most vulnerable: during sleep, during illness, and during sex—so she’d been told.

“You’ve invaded our peaceful village and took our people against their will. Forgive me for not believing you.” Her words were angrier than she wanted them to be. What happened to her shamanic training?

“Seems we have a lot in common, you and I.”

“We have nothing in common, barbarian.”

“Did you not invade my body against my will?”

“To heal your spirit.”

“So you say, savage.”

Would he stop calling her that? She was not a fierce, violent person. She was tranquil and at peace with the universe, dammit.

Well, at least she strove for peace.

“However,” he continued, “you needn’t concern yourself. My spirit requires no healing.”

“So say you. But our spirits have met, and yours told me it hid a deep wound. Let me back in. Let me into your body to heal you.”

His smirk surprised her. What could he possibly find so humorous?

“If anyone enters another’s body, it will be me.” His warm lips pressed against hers. As if to prove his point, his tongue coaxed hers to open for him.

She’d been kissed before, but not from a man so dangerous and commanding, or so good at it.

Well, she wasn’t about to waste the opportunity to do what she came here for, especially since nothing in his aura indicated malicious intent. His spirit simply sought to demonstrate his male dominance in a kiss. Nothing more. Ha. He’d learn who the dominant one was when she connected with his spirit again.

She opened her mouth and kissed him back. His pause indicated surprise. He’d obviously expected her to resist. When she didn’t let up, his jaw relaxed and his kiss deepened. She couldn’t deny the freedom her soul felt.

But she’d come to heal his heart, and as much as she would like to give in to the pleasure she was receiving, she needed to heal him first.

Again retreating to that tranquil place in her mind, her spirit gathered energy and flowed from her body into his. Her spirit didn’t get further than the impenetrable stone wall before it was thrown from his body again.

His lips were off hers, the weight of his body disappeared. The influx of warm night air came as a relief.

“Savage,” he boomed. “Stay out of my body.”

“If you enter my body, barbarian, rest assured I will enter yours.”

MIND Guest Blog by Jenn Nixon

LgMindI am so lucky to have with me my friend and fellow author Jenn Nixon. Jenn’s love of writing started the year she received her first diary and Nancy Drew novel. Throughout her teenage years, she kept a diary of her personal thoughts and feelings but graduated from Nancy Drew to other mystery suspense novels.

Jenn often adds a thriller and suspense element to anything she writes be it Romance, Science Fiction, or Fantasy. When not writing, she spends her time reading, observing pop culture, playing with her two dogs, and working on various charitable projects in her home state of New Jersey.

Jenn is here to share with us her latest release, MIND: The Beginning. Here’s a little teaser for it!

Blurb

After Dina Ranger loses telepathic contact with her brother, she breaks into his apartment and stumbles onto a special government unit responsible for monitoring the psychic population. She’s offered a job where she can use her psionic gifts to help people.

Stranded on earth over a hundred years ago, Liam of Shria is searching for a metal needed to repair his ship when he finds Dina, a telepathic investigator, and narrowly saves her from an exploding alien pod. Together, they uncover a plot to rebuild an ancient weapon and discover the truth behind Dina’s abilities while unlocking dangerous secrets about the alien presence on earth.

Can they stop a powerful weapon meant to enslave the human race? Can their relationship survive the secrets of the past or will it tear them apart?

Excerpt

Being near Liam was having an effect on her. Several of them, actually. His odd look appealed to her, especially those gray eyes. When she’d caught him staring at her in the living room, his irises seemed to sparkle, different from what she’d seen under the moonlight, yet equally intriguing.

Aside from his appearance, Liam pulsed with energy. She’d felt it in the Gut, even the dream. Now, with him so close, she couldn’t deny there was some force between them. If he didn’t understand it and had to run tests, there was no way in hell she’d figure it out.

Liam tilted his face toward her. “How’s the tea?”

“Good, thanks.” Shit. Dina huffed, realizing her thoughts were running rampant again. “So, Liam of…”

“Shria,” he replied. His lips went tight, probably remembering when she’d almost forced it out of him the first night they met. She hadn’t meant to tick him off then or now, so she nodded and went back to drinking her tea. When the tips of his fingers brushed her wrist, she felt a jolt, that intense connection building again. Tiny electrical charges darting under her skin. A sharing of energy. Dina drew her hand back but he captured it again. His eyes shined. “That. I know you can feel it.”

“I feel it,” she whispered, unable to meet his gaze for more than a second.

“After I teleported with you the first time, I felt it. Sitting in your car, I recuperated faster than normal when traveling such distances.” He brushed her hand and arm with his fingers. “When we are close…it’s stronger. Incredible.”

“Why is it happening?”

“I’m hoping those test will have some answers.”

She finally looked at him. “And if they don’t?”

Liam reached up, stroked the side of her face. “They will tell us something, perhaps not everything. There are aspects to my abilities with no explanation and probably some I’ve never unlocked.”

“Doesn’t that scare you?” She leaned into his hand as if it were the most natural act. He was calming despite being distracting.

“It did, when I was younger. Same for you.”

“You’re reading me now.”

“Impossible to ignore,” he said, taking her face in his hand, gazing into her eyes again. “Especially when I touch you.” He instantly broke contact and blinked. “Sorry.”

Somewhat disappointed, she kept her mind clear, and finished the last of her tea. “Well, thanks for the tea. Um…which is the spare?”

“Upstairs, third door down the hall.”

She hopped off the stool. “Right, okay. Guess I’ll see you in the morning.”

He nodded. “Sleep well, Dina.”

“You too.”

Inspired by a journal my fiancee found when buying and selling storage units (yes like the show but before the show) I call this my SHADES OF GREY meets BASIC INSTINCT. Why Shades of Grey? The dark, damaged characters and passion. Why Basic Instinct? Because the main character Sara finds an erotic journal and begins to read. Sara becomes as obsessed with the writer of the journal as the writer is with the two men in the journal, and they with her. She seeks out the woman to be sure she is safe and becomes absorbed in her life, where she meets two powerful men — one of which draws her into an intensely passionate affair. Here’s a little about IF I WERE YOU and a never seen before excerpt:

The Inside Out Trilogy Releases August 2012

Click here to read Ch. 1

Book 1: If I Were You
Book 2: Being Me
Book 3: Revealing Us

He is rich and famous, and dark in ways I shouldn’t find intriguing, but I do. I so do. I don’t understand why his dark side appeals to me, but the attraction between us is rich with velvety promises of satisfaction. Chris is dark, and so are his desires, but I cannot turn away. He is damaged beneath his confident good looks and need for control, and in some way, I feel he needs me. I need him.

A short excerpt from IF I WERE YOU:

His fingers knot in my hair and I gasp at the unexpected bite of his grip, holding me steady. “Is that all you got?” I demand, shocked at how much I want more. How much I want whatever is beneath his surface.

I’m not scared. I’m aroused. I’m ready.

His eyes probe mine, his expression hard, intense. “I thought you were a good little school teacher.”

“You’re corrupting me,” I declare, “and I seem to like it.” I barely issue the challenge before he’s pulling my mouth to his, and he is kissing me with unrestrained, burning passion. I taste the part of him I want to know, the part he’s afraid of, and I burn to know more. Maybe he’s right. Maybe I am playing with fire, but I cannot stop myself. Beyond reason, I will push him until he reveals everything.
