ColorOfDangerCoverNewFormer runaway Mari Del Lobo works hard to save her struggling restaurant and to trust people again. Dallas surgeon Dr. Luke Goodman turns her world upside down with terrifying news. A recent murder has her late brother’s – aka the Smiling Killer – signature and MO. When attacks on her escalate, Mari fights her growing attraction to the good doctor as fiercely as she fights for her life. To rescue herself and those she loves, will she be able to stop the murderer before he strikes again?

Luke couldn’t save his fiancée from the Smiling Killer, but he’ll do anything to prevent more murders, even ask help from the serial killer’s sister. Finding a kindred tortured soul and the perpetrator’s next target in Mari, Luke is determined to protect the stubborn ex-rebel. But Mari would rather face danger than risk the safety of the man she comes to love.

Teaser

Luke approached the road Mari was taking at ninety degrees. Her motorcycle was dashing between cars. His jaw dropped. Was someone after her?

Saying a quick prayer for her safety, he floored the gas pedal and came to the intersection at full speed.

Ignoring the red light, he turned to the right, wedging himself into traffic before the oncoming car.

Angry honking exploded behind him. But he could only concentrate on Mari’s figure that was rapidly disappearing in front of him. With no opening to his left, he passed the car in front of him by driving on the shoulder. Now he had a duet of honking cars. Shrugging it off, he moved to the left, afraid she was running away from somebody. But what if it was her usual way of driving?

He turned on his left blinker, and the car in the passing lane slowed down, letting him in, probably the driver figuring it was safer anyway. He repeated the maneuver several times and arrived at The Café’s parking lot.

Mari’s lanky figure was moving toward the entrance. He jumped out of his car and gave chase. He caught up with her before she reached the door.

“What was it?” He was breathing hard. “Was somebody after you? Or do you like riding between cars?”

“I do.” She turned around.

He clenched his teeth. What was she thinking? “You were putting yourself and other people in danger!”

“But I haven’t done it for an adrenaline rush in forever. And not this time. Somebody tried to run me off the road. I had to get away.”

Cold ran down his back. “How do you know?”

“Something about the way he was trying to hit my motorcycle might have given him away.” Mari placed her hands on her hips, but her lower lip trembled slightly. “The guy was wearing dark glasses, a gray T-shirt, and a cowboy hat. Not much to go on. He was driving a black SUV with tinted windows.”

The same type of car that had rushed out of the hospital parking lot the night before. “Did you get the license plate number?”

Teasing sparks danced in her eyes, and her lip wasn’t trembling anymore. “Nope. I was too busy trying not to be run off the road. I’ll text Aidan about it regardless. By the way, I have doubts now you’re the one threatening me. You couldn’t be in SUV and your car at the same time.”

“Thanks. I think.” He heaved a sigh of relief. “I don’t believe you helped Antonio to kill those girls. And I’m sure you didn’t kill June.”

“Because I was at The Café at the time. You checked my alibi, didn’t you?” She narrowed her eyes.

“That, too. Do you trust me now?”

“I don’t have much choice. We have to find the murderer before he kills somebody else, me included. One more thing. I probably overreacted at home,” Mari said.

Luke opened his arms, and she accepted his embrace. He stroked her short hair, so soft under his fingertips, and her fragile shoulders, and his heart melted. How was it possible that in such a short time she’d become so important to him? Her fight was his fight now.

“I’ll keep you safe,” he whispered.

Mari was still alive, and he’d gained some of her trust back.

Probably just in time. It seemed that with Mari every extra day she lived was already a victory.

JUST ONE NIGHT by NY Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Caridad Pineiro

“What’s up, Jase? Why did you almost drag me out of the party?” she asked and leaned against one of the thick pilings for the boardwalk.

He braced his forearm just above her head on the support and shifted until her warm breath spilled against his face. She smelled of something flowery and of Nicole and he inhaled deeply to memorize that aroma.

With his free hand, he brushed away a windblown lock of her hair and then skimmed his fingers down her smooth cheek. She trembled beneath his touch and he hardened as he imagined how smooth the rest of her skin would be and how she would shiver against him while they made love.

“I want you, Nickie.”

Her eyes widened in surprise and the words rushed from her. “Hell no. I don’t believe you.”

“Believe it, Nickie. I’ve wanted you for a long time,” he said and moved ever closer until his body was pressed to hers.

At that touch, she sucked in a shaky breath and closed her eyes. In a husky voice she said, “Don’t play with me, Jase.”

He chuckled and her eyes snapped open to meet his gaze. “Babe, I am so not playing with you. At least not yet,” he said and dropped his hand to trace the rounded swells of her breasts visible above the bodice of her killer dress. It was the kind of dress that invited him to touch and to see.

AN INDECENT AFFAIR PART I by Stephanie Julian

“Maybe you should back off for tonight,” Adam suggested.

Tristan shook his head. “We do that, she has time to barricade herself into whatever safe hole she’s got.”

“What if she bolts anyway?”

“Then we follow.”

Adam looked at him with raised brows. “And I suppose you know where she’s going to bolt to?”
Tristan just stared back.

Adam conceded the unspoken point with a slight shrug. “Of course you do. And you don’t think she’ll be freaked out when we show up on her doorstep?”

“She’s going to have to get used to us sometime.”

Because Tristan wasn’t about to give in and go home.

He’d been waiting too damn long for his chance with her. To show her how much he wanted her. How much pleasure he and Adam could bring her.

TYED by Raven Morris

The elevator dinged the arrival at their floor. Ty sighed and did up his shorts. “I don’t know why I’m bothering. It’s not as if there’s going to be anyone out there waiting to see. I pay good money for my privacy.”

“This is private?” she asked when the doors opened to wall of windows, floor to ceiling, with a stunning view of LA spread out before them, all the way to the ocean, not a curtain to be found. More windows filled the wall on the right, too.

“You see how high up we are?” Ty said, leading her into the space. “Only someone with a telescopic lens is going to see us and hell, no one’s safe from those anywhere.”

She walked over to the window. The Pacific ocean sparkled in the distance, one of the few days the air was smog-free enough to see it. “It’s gorgeous.”

Ty came up behind her and put his hands on either side of her on the glass, trapping her there with his body, his scent, his very presence. “So true.”

She met his gaze in the window’s reflection. “You’re not talking about the view, are you?”
“Not the one outside the window.”

It felt so good to feel desirable. Bill hadn’t been into flattery—or even a general, feeling it vibe.

Sex between them had been stagnant from day one.

What was moving against her behind was anything but stagnant.

PUMPED by Willow James

They grabbed iced coffee from the deli and Skylar thought they’d sit down to talk. Instead, Griffin gestured for her to follow him outside.

“Let’s take a walk.” Griffin held the door open for her and waved goodbye to the deli employees. “The park is just up the street and it would be a good place for us to talk privately.”

“Sure.” Standing in front of the deli, Skylar glanced at him and damn if her stomach didn’t flutter when those gorgeous green eyes latched onto hers. A smile played at her lips before she sipped her coffee. Looking at him over the rim of her cup she said, “As long as it’s not too private and there are still people within screaming distance.”

“Funny you should mention that.” Griffin brushed past her, his arm grazing her hers with the lightest of touches. Without turning around, he murmured, “Making you scream is part of my proposition.”

#WriteWed ONE NIGHT ONLY Inspiration

ONE NIGHT ONLY Erotic Romance AnthologyOne of the things I like doing is changing up expectations in my romances and one of the inspirations for my story in the ONE NIGHT ONLY Erotic Romance Anthology was making the heroine be the older of the two. Not by much, mind you, but she is twenty-four and heading into her third year of medical school.

The hero is fresh out of college and heading off to Afghanistan as a Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps.

They’re obviously at different stages in their lives and making it work, especially in JUST ONE NIGHT, will be tough. But you know I love challenges and I hope you’ll love this sexy novella (and the others in the anthology) when it releases on May 12.

Here’s my hero inspiration. I hope you like him!

#TeaserTuesday BLOOD AND MAGIC by Ann Gimpel & #Giveaway

BLOODANDMAGICThis Teaser Tuesday I have a guest blog from my friend and fellow author Ann Gimpel! Ann’s new paranormal romance just released and she’s here to share a teaser, video trailer, excerpt and giveaway! So please welcome Ann to the blog.

Can Luke conquer his past and claim the only woman he’s ever loved?

Blurb: Magic didn’t just find Luke Caulfield. It chased him down, bludgeoned him, and has been dogging him ever since. Some lessons are harder than others. Luke survives by embracing danger and upping the ante to give it one better. An enforcer for the Coven, a large, established group of witches, his latest assignment is playing bodyguard to the daughter of Coven leaders.

Abigail Ruskin is chaperoning a spoiled twelve-year-old from New York to her parents’ home in Utah Territory when Luke gets on their stagecoach in Colorado. A powerful witch herself, Abigail senses Luke’s magic, but he’s so overwhelmingly male, she shies away from contact. Stuck between the petulant child and Luke’s raw sexual energy, Abigail can’t wait for the trip to end.

Wraiths, wolves, and humans with dark magick attack. Unpleasant truths surface about the child and Abigail’s well-ordered world crashes around her. Luke’s so attracted to Abigail, she’s almost all he can think about, but he’s leery too. In over his head, he summons enforcer backup. Will they help him save the woman he’s falling in love with, or demand her immediate execution?

Excerpt:

…It wasn’t Luke but a long, drawn-out shriek that brought Abigail thumping back to consciousness, her heart hammering triple time in her chest. Eyes wide and staring against the darkness, she warded herself just in time. Strong magic battered her. She tried to sense Luke, but that was the problem with wards. They protected by forming an impenetrable barrier and corralled her magic inside.

Whatever was pummeling her seemed to have given up. She risked chinking enough of a hole in her warding to send a tendril of magic outward because she needed information. When it came, it terrified her so badly, her heart stuttered. Dark things surrounded them: wraiths, mad wolves—those who’d been turned to serve the other side—and humans who’d sold their immortal souls for forbidden knowledge. Had the girl rallied them? How could she possibly be that powerful? Luke didn’t seem to be anywhere. Abigail hoped he’d concealed himself out of harm’s way, because the two of them couldn’t make the slightest dent in the dark horde outside. The stagecoach rocked and she realized someone was climbing onto the roof. Throat so dry she could barely breathe, she mended her warding.

The books. That’s what they want… Let them haul the miserable things out of here. She knew she should risk heaven and hell to keep such knowledge out of dark hands, but Abigail didn’t see how throwing her life away would alter the outcome. She heard voices speaking the Satanic tongue, and then dragging sounds as someone transferred the trunk to the ground. Luke shouldn’t have bothered to put it back up top, she thought grimly.

What had the Girauds been doing with such arcane tomes in the first place? She supposed there was the slightest chance they’d been protecting them from falling into the wrong hands. Yes, by all means, let’s give Coven members the benefit of the doubt. Except it was a struggle, and she didn’t know who the hell to trust anymore.

She waited until it was absolutely still outside, and a tentative scan told her the dark host she’d sensed earlier had moved on, before loosing her wards. The minute she did, she felt Luke’s energy. He pulled open one of the coach doors. “I scared up a couple of horses from a nearby farm. We need to go after those books—and the girl.”

She fought down the protest that rose to her lips, but it slid out anyway. “There aren’t enough of us.”

“Fixed that problem too.” He smiled grimly. “I can ward you if you want to stay here, but if you’re coming we need to get moving. Don’t want to let the trail get too cold.” From the smirk in his voice, she knew he was being sarcastic.

She sent her magic spiraling outward and felt the books pulsing with evil. No way that path would ever get cold. “Why couldn’t I feel them this strongly before? I know the trunk had to have been spelled, but still…”

“The trunk was spelled, and by someone with magic to burn. It’s over in those trees. I guess Carolyn’s minions were in a hurry and didn’t have a wagon.”

Abigail felt like a rube. The book trunk had already been packed and sealed when she’d picked Carolyn up in New York. She’d never even thought to examine it. “Did you see Carolyn?”

“Yup.” His upper lip curled into a sneer. “Caught a glimpse of her riding a mad wolf.”

“Do you suppose there’s some way we could separate her from Goody Osborne?” Abigail bit her lip nervously.

Luke shook his head. “Even if we could—and I don’t think it’s possible—there are too many unknowns. Her parents might have been turned. If that happened, the kid could have embraced evil before it entered her body. By the time we sorted all that out, the dark would have had one too many chances to kill us.”

Abigail winced at the unvarnished truth in his words. Any residual doubts she held about the necessity of destroying the girl melted away. “Yes,” she said through clenched teeth. “I’m coming with you.”

Luke boosted her onto one of the horses. She pulled her skirts out of the way. It was a normal saddle and this was scarcely a time for modesty. Luke vaulted onto his horse, kneeing it, and they took off up the Overland Stage Road at close to a full gallop. “We’re making too much noise,” she sent.

“Doesn’t matter. They’ll expect us to come after them.”

She clung to the horse with her legs, enjoying the feel of not having to ride sidesaddle. Luke’s horse was larger, faster, and soon pulled so far ahead she could barely see him. She kneed her horse, urging it to greater speed, but the animal shied, and then reared. Abigail struggled for balance and called magic to calm the spooked animal. Something sprang at her and knocked her to the ground. She sent killing magic to stop its heart, before realizing what it was. Panting, she crawled out from under a black and gray mad wolf with blood dribbling from its nostrils, and glanced warily about. Were there more of them?

Carolyn stepped from the shadows. It looked as if she was alone, but Abigail suspected otherwise. “What do you want?”

“Simple enough. I plan to use you to get rid of Breana Giraud—and others.” A sneer twisted the girl’s features into something unpleasant. “You think people don’t know you’re part of Coven government?”

Abigail set her mouth in a hard line. “Fine. So the other side knows about me. Question is, who are you really?”

“Don’t you recognize me?” Carolyn stepped closer and turned her face from side to side as if posing for a photographer. “I gave you my name, but I am far more than that.”

She’s arrogant. Perhaps I can use that in some way. Abigail spread her hands in a placating gesture. “Because I’m used to seeing you as Carolyn Giraud, I’m not certain who you are.” She paused for emphasis. “I’d like you to tell me.”

“Certainly.” A feral grin made the child look like something out of a nightmare. “It is always better to know who your adversary is.” Her voice became soft and silky. “I have access to magic you would kill for. You may not know it, but you’d like to work for us.” She laughed, but it sounded more like broken glass shattering against itself, than a twelve-year-old girl’s mirth. “We have real power, not that paltry tripe the Coven settles for.”

Abigail waited. When Carolyn didn’t say anything else, she said, “I’m listening…and considering your offer. Life is always better than the alternative.”

“Ha! They said you couldn’t be turned, but I told them they were wrong. I am The Promised, resurrected out of legend. Goody Osborne was but a start, and this little girl is merely a convenience.” Something like an outraged squawk followed the words, but Goody silenced Carolyn almost immediately. “What I really want is you, Abigail Ruskin.”

Shit! She couldn’t be The Promised… “You mean the Dark Messiah?” Abigail scrunched up her face and held her breath, hoping against hope she’d gotten it wrong.

“The same.” A supercilious expression etched into the girl’s features. “At least the other side has heard of me. Warms my black, black heart.”

“The books—?” Abigail hunted for a connection while she rode herd on terror that threatened to immobilize her, and clouded her judgment. If ever she needed a clear head, it was now, but her mind raced feverishly.

“They weren’t doing the girl’s parents any good moldering away in that underground chamber. I’d actually been searching for them for years.” She flashed a sly smile. “They used to be mine…”

Teaser

She still had a little time.

She knocked and entered after his muffled, “Come in.”

He had been reading a magazine, but smiled and tossed it aside as he saw her. The smile inched upward and lit up his eyes with their amazing mix of dark blue flecked with bits of teal and green. His hair hadn’t been trimmed in the month he’d been in the hospital and the dark sable locks were tousled around his face, highlighting his eyes. Rough evening stubble darkened his cheeks and the strong edge of his jaw, all of it combining to make him decidedly and dangerously sexy.

“Sylvia,” he said, the tones of his voice low. “I didn’t think you’d make it tonight.”

Visiting hours would be over in less than fifteen minutes, but an afternoon assignment for the magazine had run longer than expected. She hadn’t wanted to go the day without seeing him, however. Without maybe even cuddling close and sharing some physical intimacy the way they had the last couple of weeks.

She’d come to need that sharing with him, something she didn’t want to consider too intently for fear of what it would mean.

She walked over to the bed, sat on its edge, and examined him. A hint of his usual devil-may-care attitude glittered more brightly in his gaze tonight and she wondered why.

“You’re awfully chipper,” she said and kissed him, but what started as a chaste hello kiss quickly morphed into something more intense as Carlos opened his mouth and moved his hand to her waist to possessively bring her closer.

“I’m finally going home,” he somehow managed to get out between kisses and the slide of his tongue past the seam of her mouth.

“Mmm. Home,” she said and laid a hand on his muscled chest over the fiftyish style cotton pajamas his mother had insisted on bringing for him. “I’m sure you’ll be glad to be free of this getup,” she said and playfully tugged on the pajama shirt.

He covered her hand with his and stroked it. “I recall you freeing me of these quite nicely on a couple of occasions,” he said and pulled away. His eyes had dilated to a deeper blue and when she eased her hand from beneath his and undid the first button on the serviceable cotton pajamas, they darkened a bit more.

“Like this, you mean?” she teased and snuck her hand beneath the fabric to cup his taut pectoral muscle. Beneath her palm, his nipple tightened and she shifted her thumb, dragged it across the heard peak, earning a muffled protest.

“Sylvia,” he began, but she stopped him with a kiss and a tweak of the tight button of his nipple.

When they came up for air, she reminded, “We still have time before they come toss me out.”

“Definitely,” he said and with his free hand, he lowered the hospital bed until it was flat and she could climb in and snuggle up against him.

They kissed again and Carlos slipped his hand beneath the hem of her knit cotton sweater and upward to cup her breast. Her nipple beaded instantly with his touch. He took it between his thumb and forefinger, and gently rotated it, yanking a gasp of pleasure from her.

Her delight was short-lived as the door to his room flew open.

She scrambled out of his arms and off the bed to find his mother and sister at the door, the looks on their faces a combination of shock and displeasure.

She hastily rearranged her top as Carlos fumbled with the blankets to hide his erection.

“It’s late. I wasn’t expecting you,” he said as he raised the bed and shot Sylvia a look of dread from the corner of his eye.

The apprehension filling Carlos’s amazing blue-green eyes surprised her. She had thought that there was very little that could scare her big brave cop. Sneaking a glance at the source of that terror, namely his mom and sister, it occurred to her that they didn’t seem all that fear inspiring.

I hope you enjoyed this teaser and want to see what happens with sexy Carlos and the ever intriguing Sylvia!

#FreebieFriday #FridayReads TO LOVE AND SERVE #Vampire Romance

TO LOVE AND SERVE from The Calling\Reborn Vampire NovelsToday’s free read is a little different! We’re back to the dark side with this excerpt from TO LOVE AND SERVE.

Why the darkness today? Well, next month The Calling\Reborn celebrates it’s 10th anniversary and I’ll be having a release of a new novella, VAMPIRE REBORN, on March 18th to celebrate. FIGHT FOR LOVE, the continuation of the story which begins in VAMPIRE REBORN will be out in the early summer.

Some of you have asked if the books in the REBORN series are re-releases of the earlier books from The Calling series. Nope, the REBORN series books are all new, but with the characters you loved from The Calling. I had to change the name of the series when I switched publishers.

For those of you who have written to say how much you’re liking the new books and seeing more of Diana and Ryder: THANK YOU! 🙂

The REBORN series is how I had first envisioned these stories and I am so glad I can continue the series with Diana and Ryder in each of the books in a major way. In fact, in VAMPIRE REBORN, you’re going to see a whole new side of Ryder. It will be a fight for Diana to reach him and bring him back from the darkness, but I know that these two will always find a way to work things out. But I do love making them fight for it, you know? LOL!

I hope you enjoy this read and have a great weekend.

Diana loved the feel of the wind racing past them and the crisp smells of the early autumn night as they drove through Manhattan. She raised her head and took in the silver, glittering stars and the familiar Lower East Side skyscrapers, golden against the night sky. But then Ryder turned off Park Ave too early, heading away from his club.

“I thought we were going to the Lair?” she asked, swiveling on the bench seat to face him.

He shrugged uneasily and his hands clenched and unclenched the large steering wheel. “Some stuff is up there, and I thought—”

“You didn’t want to trouble me with it.”

He shot her a quick glance. “I guess you can say that.”

She laid a hand on his thigh and noted the tension in his body. “You should know by now I’m not afraid of trouble, and if you need me—”

“I know. I can just ask. But tonight, I didn’t want any drama.”

“What if I said I want to go? Want to remember what it was like that first time…the magic I felt with you?” She stroked his thigh, feeling tension of another kind work into his big body.

He groaned and sneaked another quick peek. “You’re not playing fair, darlin’.”

She grinned and inched up on her knees until she was close enough to whisper in his ear, “Didn’t you say all was fair in love and war?”

For good measure she licked the shell of his ear and he growled his response. “Never let it be said I didn’t fulfill a lady’s desire.”

With a chuckle and another quick swipe of her tongue, she sat back down. “No one ever said I was a lady.”

Her humor calmed the tension beneath the surface and with a few quick turns, they were on their way to the Lair.

As Ryder wheeled the car into the alley next to the club, she sighed and said, “That was nice.” It was dark and intimate between the tall buildings, and for a moment she imagined them climbing into that big back seat for some sexiness.

When Ryder shot a heated glance back there, too, she realized his thoughts weren’t far from hers. She tucked her legs beneath her, kneeled, and leaned forward to brush a kiss against his lips.

He smiled and wrapped his arm around her waist, keeping her close as he returned her kiss. “I’m glad you enjoyed the ride.”

“I did. It brought back some nice memories.” She raked her fingers through his thick, cocoa brown hair.

“You didn’t have to do this.”

“I wanted to. I want you to be happy.” Cradling her cheek, he rubbed his thumb along the line of it before tipping his head to kiss her again.

It began as a simple touch, but he lingered, tracing the edges of her lips with his, tunneling his hand into her hair as he deepened the kiss. She accepted, opening her mouth and sampling him. How she’d hungered for his taste. Needed the feel of his strong body hard against hers.

Ryder didn’t want the moment to end. This was how it should be. Simple. Loving. Full of promise.

Diana broke from him only long enough to draw a breath, then she met his mouth again. Her lips were mobile and welcoming. The soft press of her breasts against his chest oh-so-tempting. But through the haze of his desire, the uneven beat of her heart registered. It was too unsteady, He held back, worried that the almost frantic rhythm was from more than passion.

When she bit his lower lip, he shuddered, fighting his need, but then a push of power grated against his vampire senses. An energy filled with both light and dark, and familiar now that he’d been touched by it.

Reluctantly he ended their kiss, leaned back, and glanced in the direction of the formidable energy.
