Guilty Pleasures Monday – Jim Caviezel

Sorry to be a little late this morning, but I am in Las Vegas on a writing weekend with some friends. Also researching a new romantic suspense that I’m plotting in my brain! It’s going to be an interesting one!

Also – I will be picking winners for last week’s guest blogs shortly and also, shipping prizes this weekend so look for them to arrive shortly!

There’s one last chance for you to win a prize this week. My buddy and fellow author Marta Acosta is having me visit at her fabulous Vampire Wire Blogspot. Drop by her blog and leave a comment for a chance to win a prize! Just click here or cut and paste this link into your browser: http://vampirewire.blogspot.com/

But without further ado, today’s Guilty Pleasure Monday is Jim Caviezel. Love that dark hair, blue eyes and hot body.

Two great Jim movies are THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO and ANGEL EYES. My all time favorite, though, stars another Guilty Pleasures Monday hottie – Dennis Quaid. What movie is that?

FREQUENCY. It’s a wonderful alternate timeline story about a father and son who connect across time via an old radio and sun spots. Not to be missed. They handled the entire story line fabulously and of course – Jim and Dennis. Don’t miss it because it’s a great flick!

Fun Friday – Funny Videos and another contest!

My daughter was home last week from spring break and we spent a Friday night together watching funny videos on Youtube and laughing until we cried. This was one of them and although I don’t normally laugh at people being hurt, the reaction of the lady and her colleagues is just too funny.

As for the contest, visit with me today at http://www.fang-tasticbooks.blogspot.com/ for a chance to learn a little more about The Calling vampire novels and leave a comment for a chance to win a prize.

Thoughtful Thursday – Big Government

I’m on the road for work, so this post will be a little short, but I’d be interested in hearing what you have to say!

For starters, let me say that I’m as pissed as the rest of America about the millions paid by AIG in bonuses. What I wonder is why there is so far not so great a fuss about the billions sent overseas to various banks. But I digress.

Again, it’s very disappointing about the bonuses, but I think the disappointment and anger at AIG is misplaced for a number of reasons.

For starters, it’s not uncommon in the financial sector that people get paid a small regular salary and receive the “bonus” as part of their regular salary package. It’s upsetting now since the money is coming from taxpayer dollars, but the point is that these people negotiated these payments as part of a regular and ordinary salary practice.

If you want to blame anyone, ask yourself why it is that the Government provided billions to various financial institutions with full awareness of things like these bonuses. What the Government should have done is lay out the guidelines as to what these financial institutions could do with the monies provided and what they could not do.

The 90% tax imposed to attempt to fix that mistake, while pleasing the public that is riled, is wrong on so many levels. The tax code wasn’t written to penalize anyone and to use it for this reason is wrong.

Again I digress. What I’m trying to say is that Government has to lead by acting thoughtfully and not in haste and certainly not in reaction to public polls and opinions. What the public wants isn’t necessarily what’s right.

Government also has to lead by example. In other words, pay your share of the taxes, don’t vote yourselves a pay raise and find a way to put money back into the hands of hard-working Americans because, IMHO, Government doesn’t know how to manage money. How many times do we hear about cost overruns on Government projects, bloated administrations, $640 toilet seats and $436 hammers!

What do you think? Do you trust the Government to know how to spend all this money?

Writer’s Block

wallIt’s not often that I get Writer’s Block, but it does happen on occasion. Often times it’s because I’m wrestling with which way the story should go and not happy with any of the directions which are coming to me.

When I hit that wall, I do wish there was this big red door that I could open to break through, but sometimes the best way is to not keep butting your head up against the wall. Sometimes the best way is to take a step back and take another look at the wall so you not only see the door, but now who to open it.

How do you do that?

1. Pick up a good book to read. I would recommend that it even be something different from what you are trying to write. Reading other genres, and interacting with writers from other genres, is a good way to see the same problem in a different light.

2. Watch a good movie. Again, preferably one that’s different from what you’re writing. Same idea only it takes less time if you’re as impatient as I am. Also, some people need more visual stimuli to see the big red door.

3. Listen to music. I’ve been inspired more than once by a song lyric that’s allowed me to tackle the story with a different perspective or a revitalized concept of the conflicts.

4. Try writing something new. Sometimes you get just too involved in a story or you’ve looked at it one too many times. Refreshen yourself by trying out a new story line or concept.

5. Take a nice long hot shower and while you’re at it, consider the problem in your story that’s creating the boondoggle. Something about putting showers and thinking together always seems to yield good results.

6. Take a walk or do some exercise. Again, think about your story and see if getting out into the fresh air or taxing those muscles produces some new ideas.

I hope those little tips help you find the way through the wall created by your writer’s block!

Also, remember that you have until midnight EST March 25 to visit my friend Kaye Monro for a chance to win a SINS OF THE FLESH T-shirt and a copy of SOLDIER’S SECRET CHILD!

Guilty Pleasures Monday – James Marsters

spikeThose in the Buffyverse know what I mean when I say I am a Spuffy gal. I so wanted Buffy to get together with Spike!

So today’s Guilty Pleasures Monday is none other than the bad boy himself – James Marsters. James played the amazing Spike, a passionate vampire who would do anything for the women he loved. As time went on in the series, you learned more and more about how complex he was and what had made him into the vampire he was.

James is also a musician and has appeared on Angel, Smallville and now in Torchwood. In 2009 James will be appearing in DRAGONBALL EVOLUTION.

I hope you enjoyed this morning’s Guilty Pleasure. I’m picking the winners from last week’s guest blog contests but have one coming up for you today! Please take a moment to visit my friend Kaye Monro for a chance to win a SINS OF THE FLESH T-shirt and a copy of SOLDIER’S SECRET CHILD!
