On a rainy and slightly chill Friday like today, my thoughts always turn to warm sunny days on the Jersey Shore. Sigh. Seems like the perfect time to give you a little teaser from One Summer Night, #1 in the At the Shore Contemporary Romance series.

This Romeo and Juliet story was such fun to write and I hope you’ll enjoy it as well and like getting to meet all the smart and determined heroines and sexy heroes in the series.

Ocean Grove Memories & At the Shore #ThrowbackThursday

The fictional town in the At the Shore Contemporary Romance series, Sea Kiss, is actually a composite of several of my favorite towns along the Jersey Shore. For those familiar with the area, you may see descriptions of areas that match those of a particular town. It was fun for me to take the best of my favorite towns and create Sea Kiss.

Today’s throwback is to memories of one of my favorite towns – Ocean Grove. Don’t be surprised if the characters in the books also visit a cute little surf and skate shop there!

Who’s in charge? You or the cat? #FridayFun

As a cat owner, I can say that I rarely get my way with either of the two cats in our family. However, the two cats in my house sometimes listen to my husband and daughter, but not to me. So sad.

So when I saw this, it was like “Wow.” A cat that does what it’s owner says?

Have a great Friday and weekend!

Easter Sunday #ThrowbackThursday

With Easter just a few days away, it reminds me of all the Easter Egg hunts we used to have with the kids when they were younger. We kept them up until the kids were way into their teens since it was so much fun.

Hopefully we’ll soon have another generation who can participate!

This is a photo from one of those long ago Easter Egg hunts.

Filling the Well #WriteWed

If I had to think of my brain as something other than a brain, I would think of it as a well, especially when I am in the midst of writing. It’s a fluid place, ready to accept the stone of an idea and to let the water ripple out to create other ideas. It’s a place where I can draw from it deeply in order to create a story.

Sometimes I feel as if it’s a rush of water that spills from the well when I get so caught up in a story that I can’t stop. That’s a good thing.

But then, inevitably, I feel as if the well has run dry after that rush and that I need to take a step back and let the well fill up again so that I can continue.

I’m sure many writers feel the same way, as if they’ve emptied their brains out on the pages and there’s nothing left inside. That’s when it’s time to take a break.

For me, that means lots of reading and maybe watching a movie. Taking a long shower or walk. Going to the gym and working up a sweat. Cleaning and organizing. There’s something about putting things in place that somehow feels like what I do in a story, putting the pieces away or shifting them until it feels right.

Whether you’re a writer or reader, I’d love to hear what you do in order to fill your well.

Corn on the Cob with Chile Lime Butter #TuesdayTip

The warm weather has me already dreaming of BBQs on the Jersey Shore. What goes better than BBQ than corn on the cob, but making perfect corn can be tough. Overcook it and it’s too mushy. Timing is everything, but here’s a cooking tip for you and a delicious butter for you to try!

“Boiling” the Corn

The secret to boiling the corn is not to boil it! Yep, you read that right. Bring 4 quarts of water to a boil for up to 6 ears of corn. DO NOT ADD SALT! Once the water has come to a boil, shut off the heat, add 4 to 6 year of corn, cover, and let sit. For 4 ears, let sit for 10 minutes. For 6 years, let sit for 15 minutes. After that the corn is done and will keep for up to 30 minutes without being overdone.

Chile Lime Butter

Melt one stick of unsalted butter. Add 2 tsp chile powder and 1 tsp salt. Heat the mixture for about 2 minutes to release the flavors from the chile powder. Add the juice of one lime and about 1 tsp lime zest. You can also add black pepper (I do not like black pepper hence why I omit it!). For a spicier version, add a little hot sauce or cayenne pepper to the mix!

Serve over the corn when you are ready to eat.
