#ThrowbackThursday The Girls of Summer

I love baseball and I especially loved going to watch my daughter play Little League softball. It was always such fun to go and cheer for her and her teammates and watch the games. This is a picture of my daughter when she was getting ready to play. I think this photo was from he year her team was 21-0 and won the championship.

#TuesdayTip #RWA2015 Places to Dine in #NYC #TimesSquare

The RWA Conference is almost here and I’m so looking forward to seeing some of you and spending time with you! Part of that time will be spent dining and for those who are not familiar with New York City or the Times Square area, here are some places I would recommend.

Juniors – West 45th St. between Broadway and 8th Ave.: Average deli sandwiches, but amazing cheesecake. Expect to wait. You could also hop over to their location in the Grand Central Terminal Food Court.

Havana Central-151 West 46th Street (Between 6th & 7th Ave): Good Cuban food at reasonable prices. Excellent mojitos! $1 empanadas during Happy Hour (4 to 7 pm)

John’s Pizzeria-260 W. 44th Street: A NY Pizza Icon located in an abandoned church. The Italian food here is also good if you’re not in the mood for pizza.

Virgil’s BBQ-152 West 44th Street (Between Broadway and 6th Avenue): I love BBQ, ribs and hush puppies and Virgil’s has some of the best. Also try their Mac and Cheese.

Osteria al Doge-142 West 44 St.: Elegant dining with Northern Italian food. Their carpaccio appetizer and liver as a main course were delicious! A varied menu of meats, fish and pasta to please everyone.

If you’re willing to venture a little farther from the Marriott Marquis, try these restaurants.

Bryant Park Grill-25 West 40th Street (Back the NY Public Library and in front of Great Lawn in Bryant Park): This is one of my fav places. Great food and ambiance in lovely Central Park.

Pershing Square-90 East 42nd Street at Park Avenue Across Grand Central Station: Another fav. Located beneath – yes BENEATH – the Park Avenue bridge, this place can be a little noisy but the food is excellent. If you need to do a breakfast meeting, they have delicious breakfast fare.

Oyster Bar-Lower Level, Grand Central Terminal, 89 East 42nd Street: A NY Institution. Enjoy the architecture besides the amazing oyster pan roast made on steam jackets specially made for the restaurant.

High Tea at the Palm Court in the Plaza-768 5th Ave(59th Street): Amazing location and fabulous high tea if you want to feel upper crusty.

Restaurant Row-West 46th between 8th and 9th: Lots of different cuisines all along one street. My favs are B. Smiths for elegant nouvelle fusion Southern cuisine and Lydia Bastianich’s Becco. I’d recommend you get reservations for each of these places.

Also, don’t forget Restaurant Week in NYC starts on July 20. You can find a list of participating places at http://www.nycgo.com/restaurant-week.

Whew, that’s it for now. If you’d like any other info on NYC, just send me an email with your question.

For those who haven’t read any stories in the series, don’t worry. These stories standalone although you will see characters from other books and know what’s happening in their lives. I don’t know about you, but I just love finding out what happens to people whose stories I’ve read. I like to know that the happily-ever-after continues past the first book!

Here is a blurb for FOR LOVE OR VENGEANCE:

What’s a goddess to do when her job is to mete out justice?

FBI Agent Helene Alexander is Nemesis, the Goddess of Vengeance and she has a job to do or her days on Earth as a goddess may come to an end. To accomplish her mission, she has lived with a ends-justify-the-means attitude for centuries. That is until her sexy new partner Miguel Sanchez has her wondering what it would be like to be more human for a change.

He’s carrying the weight of guilt for a death that could have been prevented . . .

FBI Agent Miguel Sanchez watched an innocent bystander get caught in deadly crossfire and so he knows what can happen if his partner should get careless with her quest for justice. Her cannot tolerate her harsh ways and brash attitude, but it’s hard to ignore how hot she is and the soft center he sees beneath her hard façade.

A dangerous serial killer will test their newfound love and risk their lives . . .

When the “Broadway Butcher” strikes again, Helene and Miguel are pulled into an investigation that will force them to face their greatest fears and their beliefs about finding justice for the killers victims. #ThrowbackThursday Romance Writers of America Conference #NYC #RWA2015

OMG, I have so much to get done before this year’s RWA National Conference! Luckily it’s in New York City which gives me a little bit more leeway since the travel issue is minimal. I am so looking forward to the conference, hanging out with long distance friends and hopefully meeting some of you at the Literacy book signing or at the conference if you’ll be attending.

The 2015 “Readers for Life” Literacy Autographing will be on Wednesday, July 22, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the New York Marriott Marquis
in the Westside Ballroom. If you want to line up early, head to the Broadway Ballroom and RWA staff will take you down to the Westside Ballroom when it’s time for the signing. You can find out more about the signing at the RWA Website.

I’m doing three workshops at the conference! One is with my Write to Success buddies where I’ll be discussing some legal aspect of doing box sets. Another one is on Box Sets and I’ll be talking about memes, videos and other ways to promo. Last, but definitely not least, I’ll be doing a workshop with my awesome buddy Nisha Sharma on getting organized. Nisha is AMAZING at getting organized.

Of course, in addition to the book signings and workshops, I am looking forward to the mixers and parties! Today’s Throwback Thursday is to the 2011 RWA Conference in NYC and my fab dancing shoes. I wore these to the Harlequin Black and White Ball in the Waldorf Astoria so I could dance the night away. I definitely plan on wearing them again to the conference!

#WriteWed Inspiration for FIGHT THE SHADOWS

I walk to and from Penn Station every day to get to my office, weather permitting of course. During those walks, I regularly see members of the Joint Task Force Empire Shield. These soldiers are part of the National Guard and have been protecting NYC transportation centers and other key locations since the September 11 attacks. I dedicated FIGHT THE SHADOWS to them for the work that they do!

The heroine in the book is a member of JTFSE and lives on base in Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn. You don’t get to see that location in the story, however. I am hoping to do another story with Patricia and Rick in the future and maybe I’ll have a scene or two at Fort Hamilton.

Click here to see photos of the JTFSE during training sessions.

As for the hero and heroine, here is how I pictured Patricia and Rick, a former Marine and NYPD officer.

#TeaserTuesday FIGHT THE SHADOWS Free Read

FighttheShadowsI’m really excited to be part of the launch of CJ Lyons Shadow Ops Kindle World. It was really interesting to jump into this world of covert ops and write a fast-paced suspense and emotional romance.

Today’s teaser is a sexy encounter between Warrant Officer Patricia Morales and Staff Sergeant Rick Sanchez, two of the newest members of the Special Threats Response team that is the heart of the Shadow Ops world.

Blurb

He had never given up hope of finding his wife’s killers . . .

Marine Staff Sergeant Rick Sanchez had survived two tours of duty and returned home to join the New York City Police Department. He’d found something besides his calling at the Police Academy: he found the love of his life. When his wife is killed three years later by gang thugs, Rick feels betrayed by the police department that calls it a drug deal gone bad and claims his wife was dirty. He quits the force and vows to get to the truth, but he doesn’t foresee the danger coming at him from both the street gang and a pint-sized warrior who threatens to steal his heart again.

She had clawed her way out of the barrio and hated being drawn back into that life . . .

Patricia Morales had worked hard to build a better life for herself outside the crime-ridden section of New York City where her family had settled after leaving Honduras. It wasn’t easy, especially after her father was killed in a car accident. But she’d joined the National Guard and found a way to a better life for her family. Deployed as part of Joint Task Force Empire Shield, she hopes to one day help her half-brother out of the gang life. When her half- criminal activities may involve a possible terrorist threat, Patricia must face her past and deal with her attraction to a man determined to send her half-brother to jail for a murder he didn’t commit.
