#ManCandyMonday Joseph Gordon-Levitt

I’ve thought he was a cutie since 3rd Rock from the Son and Ten Things I Hate About You. His role in Inception just cemented the hotness factor for Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Joseph has been an actor since an early age. At six he performed in a local theater group and then went on to a number of roles as a child star and then teenager. You might also recognize him from a stint in the latest Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises.

I hope you enjoy today’s Man Candy! I’ll also have some pictures for you shortly from my trip to the awesome Olde City, New Blood conference in St. Augustine.

#ManCandyMonday Sam Worthington

It was a tough choice this Monday, but this delicious hunk has been on my mind since Terminator Salvation, where he stole the movie from another hunk, Christian Bale.

Sam has appeared in a number of movies, including Avator and the two Titans movies. Sam was born in Britain, but raised in Australia. There are so many sexy Australians you gotta wonder what’s in the water down there!

Hope you enjoyed today’s Man Candy Monday!

General Tso’s Chicken Low Fat & Radio Show #Giveaway

My daughter and I picked another healthy version recipe from our Pinterest boards: General Tso’s chicken. I actually cut back even more on the calories by eliminating the oil in the sauce and just relying on reducing it with a slow boil. Just one word of warning, use less red pepper if you do it this way unless you like spicy! Also, make sure to only add the red pepper toward the end of the sauce reduction to avoid the spiciness. Also, I didn’t have apricot jam, but had some orange marmalade to use. Worked out great with that and not too sweet.

The “breading” comes out fabulously crispy and tasty. I set some aside some of the chicken for my daughter to eat as nuggets during the week.

You can find the recipe for this fabulous dish by clicking here!

Maybe make some tonight and pull up a chair and join me at my upcoming radio show with the fabulous Bab from Bab’s Book Bistro! Pound of Feathers or Lead? Serving Sizes Matter

As some of you may know from my Twitter and Facebook Posts, my goal for the New Year is to get healthier and lose weight. I’ve always stuck to an exercise regimen, but found that losing weight was just not happening in the past couple of years.

One thing that I had not done, as I had in the past, was limit my carbs. That was step one and wow, what a difference. Cutting back and substituting whole grain carbs has made a HUGE difference. It’s been just two weeks and I’ve lost 11 pounds.

The other thing I’m doing is being more conscious of serving sizes. Let’s face it, it’s tough to know what is a cup of anything and the last thing I want to do is to turn cooking dinner into a chemistry lab where I am busily measuring everything.

But serving sizes do matter and with that in mind, I laid out a tablespoon on the kitchen counter and took my plastic measuring cups to my office, where most of my mot egregious eating happens at lunch hour with my friends. The goal: make sure that the size of my portions was in keeping with the serving size so that I would know just how many calories I was eating!

But measuring cups and spoons are not always available, so how do you know when it’s one serving or more?

I’ve tracked down this excellent visual comparison from the people at the Food Network! Just click here to see how you can gauge just how many servings are in your portion!

My hardest one to judge is always meats. Now I know that of beef/chicken/pork looks like a deck of cards or my palm without my fingers (another good way to gauge). So how many ounces is in a meat serving? 3 ounces. If you’re eating fish, three ounces looks like the size of a checkbook.

If you’re going to have a larger portion (8 ounces) of meat, a serving is about the size of a thin paperback novel.

I hope this helps out if like me, you’re trying to implement a healthier lifestyle for the New Year.

#ManCandyMonday Prince Alexander Ivanov

You may be wondering what I had in mind when I thought up Prince Alexander from THE PRINCE’S GAMBLE.

Exotic would be a good word to describe him off the bat. FBI Agent Kathleen Martinez certainly thought so at her first meeting with the prince.

Despite his tone and attitude, it was hard for Kathleen to ignore that he was an incredibly handsome man. The pictures and clippings in her file had not done him justice.

Ivanov stood at least six foot two with broad shoulders that strained the expensive fabric of his designer suit. His well-muscled upper body flowed into lean hips and powerful legs.

She dragged her attention back to his face. The muscles in his chiseled jaw clenched with annoyance. It was hard to tell if he had full lips from the angry slash of his mouth. High cheekbones served to highlight winter blue eyes with an exotic tilt. Or maybe his eyes only seemed clear as the sky due to the midnight hair ruthlessly styled into place.

Two gorgeous men in one day, and just her luck they were both connected to her investigation. But while Detective Roman still possessed a hint of boyishness in his features, Alexander was a man with a capital M. Her flare of attraction to him was disturbing on several levels.

LOL, definitely a MAN with all caps. But the things that I found most intriguing about Alexander were the many layers to his personality. Alexander is a man shaped by hardship and yet privileged as few can be. That really brought a number of different traits to him that I found fascinating and that Kathleen did as well.

I hope you’ll enjoy finding out more about Alexander in THE PRINCE’S GAMBLE.

Now to leave you with a little of my inspiration for the prince!

#ManCandyMonday Atlanta Falcon Tony Gonzalez

On this Man Candy Monday congrats to tight end Tony Gonzalez of the Atlanta Falcons on making his 101st career touchdown catch. So sorry that you guys lost. I was really hoping you’d make it to the playoffs with an undefeated season!

Tony is a twelve-time Pro Bowler, holds the record for most touchdowns in a season and has career highs in both the number of touchdowns and reception yards. Tony is certain to be a Hall of Famer, but has yet to play in a playoff game. Here’s hoping you make it this year, especially with that winning smile!

On another note, Coach Ryan, when will you pull Sanchez and give Tebow a real chance? What have you got to lose? You’re already 3 and 6 and have lost 4 of your last 5 games. If you don’t want to put Tim in at quarterback, how about using him as some other kind of back. He’s big and strong and he’s got heart.

As Jimmy McGinty says in THE REPLACEMENTS, you need “miles and miles of heart” to win. Shane Falco understood, hopefully you will as well Coach Ryan.

Stand by Me Muppet-Style

It’s been that kind of week for me. Lots of work and writing to do capped by my clumsy self tripping over some boxes of evidence and wrenching my knee. Ugh. But with the sun finally shining in the Northeast and Friday here with the promise of the weekend, cheer is almost here.

I thought I’d help it along with this hysterical Muppet spoof on Stand by Me! I hope you all have a fun weekend.
