Counting down to Halloween

For starters, please visit I Just Wanna Sit and Read for a review of THE LOST and another giveaway!

I’m like a kid when it comes to Halloween. I love the costumes and decorating the house! I love seeing the smiles and sometimes scary looks from the kids as they walk up the front steps.

I guess it’s natural since I love paranormal things, but it’s confession time: I am a major chicken. Have been since my mom and sis forced me to watch all those monster movies as a kid. It’s why I sleep with the sheets tucked up to cover my neck (vampires) and hate walking at night, especially during a full moon.

But despite all that, I LOVE Halloween. So I decorate the outside of the house so kids will hopefully have some fun on that day. Just beware the front door! This year we’ve found a cool mat that does all kinds of things when you step on it.

Thursday 13 – Breaking up is hard to do…

The blog tour continues! Don’t forget to visit The Jeep Diva today to find out what she has to say about THE LOST and for a chance to win a LOST T-shirt or copy of my upcoming e-book, ROOKIE OF THE YEAR.

Also, tonight I have Anjanette Delgado with me for a live video event and we’ll be talking about break-ups, fixes for broken hearts and her latest release, THE HEARTBREAK PILL which explores what happens when one woman seems to find a cure for her break-up pain.

So for today’s Thursday 13, I’ve got a list of things you do when you break up!

1. Sing out loud to Gloria Gaynor’s I WILL SURVIVE
2. Get chip-faced like Sandra Bullock in MISS CONGENIALITY
3. Move to Tuscany and start a new life
4. Cry. A lot.
5. Go to the gym and beat the crap out of the boxing bag.
6. Eat chocolate.
7. Drink wine.
8. Find a new guy and hope he isn’t just a rebound guy.
9. Go out with friends and cry some more, drink some more wine.
10. Read a good romance.
11. Watch DIRTY DANCING six or seven times a day (like THE NEW GIRL)
12. Cry some more.
13. Get over it and move on.

Share your break-up remedies by leaving a comment here on the blog or even better, join Anjanette and me tonight as we talk about heartbreak and some remedies!

In Death-Fest & Upcoming Blog Tours!

I have been on a major J.D. Robb-fest, trying to catch up on all the books I haven’t read so that I can get to my — SQUEEE — autographed copy of FROM NEW YORK TO DALLAS!! I’ve only got about 6 books to go and to be honest, I’m not sure I can wait that long. As it is, I’ve been reading them out of order due to time constraints and so I may just do the same with FROM NEW YORK TO DALLAS. Of course, I’m also tempted that once I do that, I’ll start reading the series all over again in order from book one which when reread rather recently was just as good as I remembered.

Anyway, that’s why today’s Thursday 13 is an In-Death Fest where I’m sharing the 13 characters and/or things that I love about the series in no particular order.

    1. Eve Dallas. Was there ever a more perfect heroine.
    2. Roarke. OMG. Can’t say much more. He melts my bones.
    3. Peabody. Love her as a sidekick. Just too awesome.
    4. McNab. His outfits are burned into my retinas.
    5. Feeney. Great father figure.
    6. Mira. As a substitute mom, she’s the best.
    7. The candy thief. I’m convinced it’s Roarke. There is a scene in CONSPIRACY IN DEATH where the candy bar disappears with only Roarke nearby and he chides her about eating better. In TREACHERY IN DEATH, Eve discovers her stash missing and Roarke admits just seconds later that he had broken into her office. Hmm. Too much coincidence for me.
    8. The love scenes. Soooo soooo hot and romantic.
    9. The murder cases. After an overload of crime-type stories on TV, it’s amazing that these are still interesting.
    10. The world of the NYPSD and Eve’s men and women. Little by little you’ve gotten to know each one and have seen them grow.
    11. NYC in the future with its glide carts and soy dogs. So can related to my favoritest city.
    12. Mavis. What an interesting and outrageous best friend.
    13. Eve’s fear of anything feminine. I can so relate.

Hope you enjoyed today’s Thursday 13. If you’re familiar with the IN DEATH series, please add your own favorite moments.

Banned Books Blog Hop

Welcome to the Banned Books Blog Hop! It’s always a surprise to me to see the list of books that have been banned over the years, especially when they contain books that I’ve read and found so enlightening, like TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, or so entertaining, like HARRY POTTER. To me books, especially books of fiction, are one of the best ways that we can explore issues in society and bring them to the forefront for discussion and consideration.

When I was a teen, a local high school not only banned the books, but burned them. That case went all the way to the Supreme Court. To this day I always questioned why a few thought some ideas were so radical they needed to be eradicated by burning, like in FAHRENHEIT 451.

Which I guess is why I love America. We have the First Amendment and protections against restrictions on our speech. We also have a way of resolving our differences about whether or not the speech contained in certain works merits those protections. I hope that we never reach a point where things like “fairness doctrines” stop us from being able to openly discuss issues that are of importance for our society.

Take a moment to visit the other blogs for their discussions and giveaways. For this blog and to be entered to win a $10 gift card, THE LOST T-shirt and some swag, please either tweet or share on Facebook the following:

But now an inhuman force hunts down Adam-just when he finds someone who makes him feel more human than he ever imagined possible . . .

Home from combat in Iraq, Bobbie Carerra wants only peace, yet soon joins Adam in a terrifying battle against paranormal enemies who hide in plain sight. She’s drawn to his strength of mind and body; he’s attracted to her courage and intoxicating energy. Their scorching passion can either transport them to the heights of ecstasy or-if Adam’s powers rage out of control-destroy them. THE LOST!

THE LOST Paranormal RomanceThere was no denying how difficult it was for him, remembering that day. But then he surprised her, and maybe even himself, by saying, “I think I’ve seen those energy balls before. When Salvatore found me. Before I forgot who I was.”

“Forgot who you were?” she questioned, seeking clarification because she didn’t want to misunderstand what he meant.

“When I woke up, I had no memories of who I was or where I came from. I still don’t except…”

“You remember the energy. The way the men tossed it. The way you returned fire,” she put out for him to consider.

He nodded and screwed his eyes shut, as if forcing himself back to that time and those memories, but then he expelled a harsh sigh and shook his head. “I can’t remember any more.”

“It’ll come to you.“

“It hasn’t come to me in twenty years, Bobbie. What makes you think it’ll happen now?” he challenged, obviously frustrated.

“To every thing there is a season, and a time for every purpose. Maybe now it’s time for you to figure it all out,” she said, paraphrasing an oft-told old scripture she’d heard in church.

“You expect me to have faith, only I’m not a religious man,” he warned.

“Hasn’t there been anyone in your life in whom you had faith?” she asked, but as a river of emotions washed over him and transferred itself to her, she knew the sad answer to that. Because she didn’t want to press and cause him more heartache, she rose from the couch.

“It’s time I went home.”

“Stay,” he said, but quickly added, “I’ve got half-a-dozen empty rooms all beautifully decorated by some famous designer whose name I can’t even remember. Just choose a room.”

Insanely she knew what room she wanted to choose-his-but tempered that rashness. It would only create more issues and much like she had told him, there was a season and a time for everything.
