#WisdomWednesday – Time Flies So Be in the Now

I was chatting with a co-worker today about how quickly time seems to be flies especially since I have my daughter’s bridal shower rushing up at me and a wedding in only three months. Yikes! How did that happen? I remember them getting engaged and it seems like yesterday, but it’s been a year! Happy belated anniversary by the way.

My friend pointed out that it seemed like her daughter’s wedding had just happened and yet it had been five years. Then she said something that really stuck with me: A day seems to take forever sometimes, but the years go by in a snap.

Wow, she couldn’t be more right about that which led me to another thought. We think about the past a lot, sometimes about things we might have done differently, but we can’t change the past. We also can’t know what the future brings either so what does that leave us with? The present. The now.

There are many philosophers and tenets of religion that talk about being in the present, the now. After all, it’s the only thing that’s real and it’s the only thing you can change. If you’re unhappy now, you can find the source of that unhappiness and work to find a way out of it. It’s why I’m making so many life changes now and in the near present. If you’re happy now, GO WITH IT! Keep doing whatever it is that’s made you that way.

Being present in the now is better than being bogged down by the past or worrying about the future. That’s not to say don’t appreciate where you’ve come from and don’t plan for the future. The past has shaped who you are now and the future likewise depends on who you are now. The now. Be in it.
