Hello, I’m Michele Dunaway, and I write for Harlequin Special Edition. Thanks so much to Caridad for inviting me so I can chat about my upcoming July release, ONE SUITE DEAL, which is available to preorder. It’s Book 4 in the Love in the Valley series.

ONE SUITE DEAL is a fresh twist on the one-night love, undercover boss, and love triangle tropes and takes place in the small town of Beaumont, where true love always gets a second chance in Missouri’s wine country. I write hometown sweet with a hint of spice.

Here’s a quick peek at some of the action in the opening chapter:

The first thing Edmund noticed was her legs. Which made him a total cad, he knew. His mother had definitely raised him better. But as if he’d been captured by the pull of a powerful electromagnet, his gaze followed endless sheer black tights upward, from their start in black suede boots until the silky fabric disappeared beneath a red and green corduroy tartan hem that skimmed mid-thigh. He rationalized that he couldn’t help but stare—the woman had made quite the entrance by approaching the service desk like a mini-tornado. Her chest heaved and her boots clicked on the worn linoleum while her four-wheeled, hard-sided carry-on whirred in its attempt to keep up the frantic pace. As she came alongside him at the service desk, her bag rolled over his left foot.

“Sorry.” She gasped out the word as she spared him one of those automatic, yet polite, apologetic smiles strangers give one another. Still somewhat breathless, the words gushed out. “I need to get on this plane.” She shoved her phone forward toward the gate agent, her boarding pass visible. “It’s not full yet, is it?” Without waiting for an answer, she leaned over the counter, the interesting gap forming under the top button of her red silk shirt revealing a peek of black lace. “Please tell me you have a seat.”

Book or Movie? Which do you prefer?

I’ve been lucky to have two brushes with Hollywood. I did the novel tie-in to the Jane the Virgin television show. Very exciting! Jane even said my name on the air (I’ll have to find that clip for you!) But even more exciting was having South Beach Love turned into a Hallmark movie. But as with some adaptations there were changes which brings up today’s This or That. Would you rather read the book or watch the movie version? I have to confess I’ve never read the Harry Potter series but I have watched all the movies. The movie kept the basic premise but the book has a lot more teen angst, an annoying reporter, uplifting friendships and family, and lots of tasty food!

Fun Calendar Facts

It’s that time every fourth February, namely LEAP YEAR! Why do we even have a leap year? Turns out that it takes more than 365 days for the earth to circle the sun and to make up for that extra time it’s necessary to add one day every four years. Weird right?

What about other calendars like the Aztec calendar I mention in The Fifth Kingdom? The sun stone used by the Aztecs consists of a central image of what some scholars believe is a sun god. The four sections around the sun god represent the four kingdoms of the Aztecs. Each kingdom was supposedly destroyed by a cataclysmic event, namely, monsters, hurricane winds, a rain of fire, and floods.

It’s possible that the arrival of the Spaniards, who might have been mistaken for the return of an exiled god, signaled the start of the fifth kingdom of the Aztecs and their ultimate destruction.
