Transformation Tuesday Update

My lifestyle change is going well. I’m eating healthier, being more active when I write and exercising regularly. To date, I’ve lost 9 pounds and I want to keep you advised as a way of staying true to what I’m trying to do. Speaking of exercise, what’s your favorite kind of exercise? My fav is walking and I’ve been doing a good amount of that lately, but I’m also mixing it up with using the elliptical. Still haven’t done any strength training, but I’m happy with the progress I’m making so far.

Manic Monday Seeking Motivation

Waking up to a list of things I’ve got to get done and I’m working up the motivation to tackle them all as I sip on my morning coffee. For starters, I have to get to work on #3 in the South Beach Security K-9 Division spinoff. I actually have some news on that! My editor advises the tentative publication date for the series is Summer 2024 and you’ll be able to read all four books back-to-back. On another note, I’m the Conference Chair for the Liberty States Fiction Writers Conference and I’m working with the board and a fabulous group of members to finalize everything for the conference. It’s going to be a good one and if you’re an aspiring author, we have great workshops to help you with craft, business, and promotion. If you’re a reader, pop by the book fair on Saturday, April 1, 2023, from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. Admission is free and you’ll be able to meet quite a number of fabulous authors, including me! LOL! It’s Buffy Time!

I was a huge Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan and my daughter and I would often watch together. This is a photo of us getting ready for the premiere of one of the seasons. We actually had a watch party with some friends for the start of Season 6 and had a blast. I don’t have to ask if any of you were Buffy fans. I know a lot of you were!

Starting a New Chapter Literally

I just delivered Escape the Everglades last week and am now working on the proposal for #3 in the South Beach Security K-9 Division spinoff, tentatively titled Killer in the Kennel. I had an initial idea for the book when I sold the series, but after some brainstorming with a good friend, I’m tweaking the plot a little. Because of that, I’m busy doing some research and later today I’ll start doing a very loose chapter outline for at least the first ten chapters of the book. I have to confess that I only do that many because a lot of times the story is writing itself by then. Interesting fact: I do that loose chapter outlining by hand in pencil in a journal. Don’t know why but there is something about the pencil on paper that helps me focus. I am hoping the SBS K-9 Division spinoff will be available in late 2023. For now, you can check out the first three books in the series at https://amzn.to/36KrDcR.

Chimichurri-Style Dressing

I was making a steak the other day and needed a sauce to go with it. Since I had some parsley in the fridge I decided to try and do a chimichurri sauce. Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough parsley for that so I decided to tweak the recipe myself for a chimichurri-style dressing. It worked great with the steak and we used it as a salad dressing the next day. This is a bright sauce with herbal overtones (boy doesn’t that sound chefy! LOL!) If you try it, let me know what you think! I could totally see the crew of South Beach Security using this on a steak instead of a usual Cuban mojo. If you’d like to check out some recipes and free reads, try out Recipes for the Romantic Soul which is free on KU at https://amzn.to/3vwT6FJ.

Ingredients

2/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/4 red wine vinegar
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 tsp dried red pepper flakes
4 garlic cloves, loosely chopped
Handful of parsley

Directions

Mix oil, vinegar, dried spices, and garlic and pulse with an immersion blender (or in your blender or food processor). Add parsley and lightly pulse.

Voila! That’s it! Hope you enjoyed this recipe. P.S. – for a full chimichurri you’ll need at least two handfuls of parsley!

Special Valentine’s Gifts

I know Valentine’s Day is at least a month away but since I decorated the house and I’m a romance writer, I’m already looking ahead to that day. Thinking about what I’d like, and since I’m trying to be healthier which means I should avoid the whole chocolate thing, how about my favorite food? “What is that?” you ask. Eggs. I love eggs. Any way you want to give them to me. Plus considering how expensive they are lately, it’s probably a pretty good investment on hubby’s part! LOL! What about you? Do you love eggs? Do you have any special wishes for Valentine’s Day?
