#WriteWed Inspiration for FIGHT THE SHADOWS

I walk to and from Penn Station every day to get to my office, weather permitting of course. During those walks, I regularly see members of the Joint Task Force Empire Shield. These soldiers are part of the National Guard and have been protecting NYC transportation centers and other key locations since the September 11 attacks. I dedicated FIGHT THE SHADOWS to them for the work that they do!

The heroine in the book is a member of JTFSE and lives on base in Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn. You don’t get to see that location in the story, however. I am hoping to do another story with Patricia and Rick in the future and maybe I’ll have a scene or two at Fort Hamilton.

Click here to see photos of the JTFSE during training sessions.

As for the hero and heroine, here is how I pictured Patricia and Rick, a former Marine and NYPD officer.

#TeaserTuesday FIGHT THE SHADOWS Free Read

FighttheShadowsI’m really excited to be part of the launch of CJ Lyons Shadow Ops Kindle World. It was really interesting to jump into this world of covert ops and write a fast-paced suspense and emotional romance.

Today’s teaser is a sexy encounter between Warrant Officer Patricia Morales and Staff Sergeant Rick Sanchez, two of the newest members of the Special Threats Response team that is the heart of the Shadow Ops world.

Blurb

He had never given up hope of finding his wife’s killers . . .

Marine Staff Sergeant Rick Sanchez had survived two tours of duty and returned home to join the New York City Police Department. He’d found something besides his calling at the Police Academy: he found the love of his life. When his wife is killed three years later by gang thugs, Rick feels betrayed by the police department that calls it a drug deal gone bad and claims his wife was dirty. He quits the force and vows to get to the truth, but he doesn’t foresee the danger coming at him from both the street gang and a pint-sized warrior who threatens to steal his heart again.

She had clawed her way out of the barrio and hated being drawn back into that life . . .

Patricia Morales had worked hard to build a better life for herself outside the crime-ridden section of New York City where her family had settled after leaving Honduras. It wasn’t easy, especially after her father was killed in a car accident. But she’d joined the National Guard and found a way to a better life for her family. Deployed as part of Joint Task Force Empire Shield, she hopes to one day help her half-brother out of the gang life. When her half- criminal activities may involve a possible terrorist threat, Patricia must face her past and deal with her attraction to a man determined to send her half-brother to jail for a murder he didn’t commit.

Happy Independence Day!

I don’t know about you, but it seems to me that summer is just flying by! It’s already July and I’m looking forward to one of my most favorite days, the 4th of July. I love going to the Jersey Shore to watch the parade and see all the fireworks shows plus get together with friends for a barbecue to celebrate Independence Day. I hope you all have nice plans for the 4th of July as well. Here’s a photo of fireworks from last year’s 4th of July!

New Releases for July

FIGHT THE SHADOWS – A Shadow Ops Thriller

FighttheShadowsJuly is a very busy month since I have two new releases featuring sexy military men and women! FIGHT THE SHADOWS is a new experience for me since I am writing a romantic suspense set in CJ Lyons Shadow Ops world. It was very interesting to build a story using my own characters as well as characters from CJ’s world. Each book stands alone, so you don’t have to worry about reading all of them to get the complete story. You can check out all the stories at the links below:

#ThrowbackThursday My Grandma

There are people who are so influential in your life that you miss them every day. My mom was such a person, but so was her mom, my grandmother Nieves. I’m actually named after her since my real first name is Caridad de las Nieves, but when I was naturalized I had to change that to Caridad and Nieves became my middle name.

My mom was a working mom so my grandma was the one who was home for us, made dinner, chased after us to clean up and all-in-all, provided us with stability and wonderful stories of growing up in Spain and her life in Cuba. She was a strong woman in more ways than one. She survived going from Spain to Cuba and then to the U.S. She survived the loss of a son at an early age (she never talked about this) and the premature loss of my mom. She was stubborn and had a temper, but luckily my grandfather was a saint. But she always loved us and took care of us and we knew we could count on her to be there for us.

She got to see grandchildren and great-grandchildren and even in her nineties, she was still amazing. This is a picture of me and my grandmother. It was taken in Cuba when I was just a little one.
