Saturday Spring Cleaning Vibes

I have a tendency to collect things and every now and then I know it’s time to go through my stuff and wean out things that should either be thrown out or which can be donated to others who need them more than me. Even though it’s not Spring, something made me get going on it! So I went through my T-shirt drawers (yes more than one), sweater drawer, shoe rack, table linens, etc. to do that Spring cleaning. I was very happy with the results since my drawers are nice and organized and I was able to donate quite a number of useful items to Goodwill. I also know that whatever they don’t keep to resell will be recycled rather than just ending up in a dump somewhere. In The Family She Never Met, there’s mention of a very special table that the heroine’s grandmother bought at a St. Vincent de Paul location. That story comes from my family’s real history and that table now resides in my daughter’s house. I hope in time she’ll pass it to her children along with the story of how it was acquired. A Blast from the Past

My niece has been doing some family research and ran across this photo of me from our high school yearbook, I believe. I was President of the Leaders Club my senior and this is a photo of the officers. Leaders Club members were female athletes who would assist the Physical Education staff with various tasks around the gym. I’m dating myself, but this was only a few years after the passage of Title IX, and female athletes had to scrabble for recognition and acceptance. For a long time we weren’t part of the annual award event for athletes and to this day I remember how one of the male Phys Ed staff members asked me if I thought I deserved it when I was awarded the Pantherette Award for the best female athlete. I had no doubt I deserved it, and not just because Title IX said they had to do something like this since there was a Panther award. I’m so happy to see how things have changed for female athletes and hope we continue to make progress.

Manic Monday Seeking Motivation

Waking up to a list of things I’ve got to get done and I’m working up the motivation to tackle them all as I sip on my morning coffee. For starters, I have to get to work on #3 in the South Beach Security K-9 Division spinoff. I actually have some news on that! My editor advises the tentative publication date for the series is Summer 2024 and you’ll be able to read all four books back-to-back. On another note, I’m the Conference Chair for the Liberty States Fiction Writers Conference and I’m working with the board and a fabulous group of members to finalize everything for the conference. It’s going to be a good one and if you’re an aspiring author, we have great workshops to help you with craft, business, and promotion. If you’re a reader, pop by the book fair on Saturday, April 1, 2023, from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. Admission is free and you’ll be able to meet quite a number of fabulous authors, including me! LOL! Starting a New Chapter Literally

I just delivered Escape the Everglades last week and am now working on the proposal for #3 in the South Beach Security K-9 Division spinoff, tentatively titled Killer in the Kennel. I had an initial idea for the book when I sold the series, but after some brainstorming with a good friend, I’m tweaking the plot a little. Because of that, I’m busy doing some research and later today I’ll start doing a very loose chapter outline for at least the first ten chapters of the book. I have to confess that I only do that many because a lot of times the story is writing itself by then. Interesting fact: I do that loose chapter outlining by hand in pencil in a journal. Don’t know why but there is something about the pencil on paper that helps me focus. I am hoping the SBS K-9 Division spinoff will be available in late 2023. For now, you can check out the first three books in the series at https://amzn.to/36KrDcR.

Sticking to the Plan

I mentioned at the start of the year that I had set a number of goals for myself for the New Year. I’m happy to say that so far I’ve been sticking to most of them. I’m doing over 10K steps each day, I’m eating more fruits and vegetables, and I’m making sure to get up and break up the hours of sitting while I write with a walk. Still working on the strength training, but that will happen in time. As for losing weight, I’ve lost another pound. Not a lot, but then again, you can sometimes not lose as much when you are building muscle. I’ll keep you posted on what happens over the next few weeks.

Fun Conference Moments

I love going to conferences. I always learn something new, meet new people, and come back inspired and ready to write! If you haven’t gone to a conference in a while, I highly suggest you think about doing it in 2023. This photo was from an RT Readers conference where we were having a fun time during one of the panels. I got my crazy on and loved letting my hair down with my friends. If you like reader conferences, check out the new Book Lovers Con where I’ll be in May! As for writing conferences, I always love my local Liberty States Fiction Writers conference. I’m actually the Conference Chair this year and it’s shaping up into a fab conference. In addition to the workshops and keynote, we have a Game Night where you can let your hair down and also win some fab prizes or baskets! Did I mention that there’s also a book fair that’s open to the general public where you’ll be able to pick up autographed copies of some of my books, including the South Beach Security series? You can check out the LSF Writers conference at http://www.libertystatesfictionwriters.com/conference/.
