Hubby and I went to school right outside of Philadelphia and as it turned out, our daughter chose a college in Philadelphia as well! The first parent’s weekend, we went out for the festivities and who was there: None other than the Philly Fanatic, the mascot for the Phillies baseball team.

Good morning! It’s a rainy morning here in NYC, but it can dim how excited I am about the upcoming Labor Day weekend, a fabulous giveaway that I’m having with some friends and the memories of an awesome anniversary trip to Hawaii! So first, this throwback to that trip! This photo always reminds me of the serene nights we spent on Maui during our anniversary trip. Many years ago I was able to buy 2 tickets to a Mets-St. Louis Cardinals Division Playoff at Shea Stadium. There was no question my daughter and I would go, especially since hubby was out-of-town. It was an amazing experience. The game was rained out, but the rain out didn’t happen until we were already there and in our rain gear. We came back the next day and it was a tight game and running late. We had only minutes to spare if we were going to make the last train back to NJ. Unfortunately, Billy Wagner gave up a late inning home run and it was over. Done. Put a fork in our Mets. Sigh. We were expecting a lot after last year, but it seems injury after injury are going to keep them out of the postseason this year, although I haven’t given up hope yet for a wild card berth.
I was very lucky to have a mom who was not only an amazing role model, mentor and mother, she was an awesome friend. In the year before she passed, I was able to work with her and get to spend a great deal of time with her. She taught me the importance of hard work and following my dreams, although she never really got why I wanted to be a writer. Still, it was the drive that she instilled in me that moved me to pursue what I wanted. I hope I have been all of these things to my very best friend, my daughter Samantha.
I’ve been to a number of RT Book Club Conventions and hope to get to another one soon. This is a photo from the 2011 convention in Los Angeles. It was lots of fun to visit with my California friends and get to meet so many new friends.
This was a new furry friend I encountered on the way to one of the workshops. He needed lots of manscaping and was into wearing a collar, but that didn’t stop me! LOL!
Years ago I was lucky enough to be at a legal conference where they took us to visit the archaeological site of Teotihuacan which is just north of Mexico City. This site was the location for one of the largest pre-Columbian cities in the Americas. It is thought to have been destroyed in either 5 or 6 A.D., possibly from internal strife or climate change due to meteor strikes and/or a volcanic eruption.
Now, for the regulars, you know how I hate heights, but I refused to let that fear keep me from getting to the top of the Pyramid of the Sun. Here are some photos from my trek. You can see how far up it really is! The first photo is of the Avenue of the Dead which is actually a series of multi-family dwellings.
This is me on my way up the pyramid. Going down was a lot harder due to the steepness of the grade.
I recently got to visit Mexico City again and go to the Anthropological Museum where I saw lots of artifacts and this recreation of what Teotihuacan may have looked like at one time. It was awesome to see all this history up close and personal because I had included a lot of it in AZTEC GOLD and THE FIFTH KINGDOM, my two novels with Aztec themes.
