Dreaming of the Weekend & a New Kitchen
We made it to Friday and I’m dreaming of the weekend and a new kitchen! We’re renovating what is the original kitchen in our new forever home. Say goodbye to this kitchen since demolition starts today. I will share pictures as things happen. Do you have anything fun happening this weekend?

Caridad’s Grandmother Nieves #ThrowbackThursday
My grandmother Nieves was a strong woman. She had the courage to leave Spain for a better life in Cuba. She had even more courage to be the one to stay behind with us in Cuba when my parents had to escape to avoid Castro’s retribution. With my sister and me in tow, she traveled with us throughout Central America until we legally entered the U.S. Since my mom was a working mom, she was the one who took care of us when we weren’t in school and whatever my grandmother said, we did. She sounds tough, but she was also had great stories to tell and was an amazing cook. She was also a voracious reader which I guess is where I got to be such a big reader. I’m actually named after my grandmother since my real first name is Caridad de las Nieves. I had to change it when I became a citizen. I have to mention that my grandmother could not have done all those things without my grandfather who was truly a saint and a very loving and caring man.

Caridad Loves a Foggy Day in London
Like many of you, I am itching for things to change so that I can travel again. I have a number of places on my bucket list, including a city I’ve been able to visit a number of times: London. The first time was actually on a business trip where I had a short two day stay. The next was a little longer, like four days. That was during one of those weird NJ teacher breaks and the round-trip airfare to London was cheaper than flying to Florida! The last time was when my daughter was there for study abroad. Mama Bear that I am, I couldn’t be without my daughter for six months so we visited her when she had an Easter break from school. We had a lot of fun and got to see a lot of London. A very nice city with incredibly pleasant and funny people!
Today you can take an armchair visit to London with these photos I’m sharing. You can also go to VisitLondon.com for more information!

P.S. – As you can see from the photos, we didn’t have a foggy day. In fact, we usually had really nice weather, even the first two times when I visited in November!
Happy Spring Decorating
I have found that between retiring from my day job and the pandemic I have done a lot more decorating in and around the house. I always did some decorating for Christmas, but now it’s all the major holidays. Hearts and other things up for Valentine’s Day. A quick little smattering of shamrocks for St. Patrick’s day. Much more for Easter with a combination of cold-hardy flowers, Easter eggs, and other items. It takes a little time, but I find that it makes me so much cheerier. Here’s a quick shot of my spring flowers and some of the decorating!
Excited about spring! Just 1 day away!
Caridad’s Thoughts on Spring
I am so not a fan of winter! I hate the cold and miss being able to plant and eat tomatoes straight from my garden. But there’s only one more day until Spring is here and I can’t wait. I’ve already got seedlings started and have put in a few cold-hardy plants. In a little over a month, I’ll be planting flowers and vegetables and eagerly waiting for tomatoes fresh off the vine with some fresh basil from my garden.
I also can’t wait for spring because that means summer is not far behind. Summer is my absolute fav time of year. I love spending time underneath my beach umbrella, reading a good romance novel. I love taking long strolls along the boardwalk as well. I often brainstorm a new book as I stroll which is a good thing!
What about you? Do you love to garden? Do you love spring and summer? If you can’t wait until the flowers are up, check out my photo gallery with images from some past Philadelphia Flower Show photos!
