Is Friday the 13th really unlucky? Do you believe it’s an unlucky date? There are several explanations for why so many believe it is! Some say it has to do with the number 13, which is considered unlucky. In the last few years, my hubby has become much more conscious of all things 13 (I won’t tell him our balcony is 13 feet wide, and each of our sets of stairs has 13 steps!) According to Wikipedia, in Norse legends, it involves a dinner to which Loki was not invited. There were already 12 gods there, and when Loki arrived (#13), mayhem ensued. There were 13 people at the Last Supper, which was held on Thursday the 13th. Then there is the massacre of the Knights Templar on Friday the 13th on the orders of King Philip of France! Lots of bad things, but I’m not so superstitious. How about you? P.S. Happy National Donut Day! Who doesn’t love a good donut with a cup of coffee or tea? My favorite donut was always the buttercrunch from Dunkin’, but unfortunately, they don’t make them anymore. My current fav: the original glazed from Krispy Kreme. We finally have one nearby and my sis and I occasionally drop by to pick up some donuts. What about you? What’s your fav donut? P.S. Hubby and I have been busy watching our beautiful grandbaby but the boss parents gave us a week off for Spring break! When I went to college at Villanova, there were many people of Irish descent. That meant celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day was a big event. In the cafeteria, they would offer corned beef and cabbage, Irish soda bread, green-frosted cookies and sweets, and green milk to wash it all down. Yes, they would add food color to the milk to make it green. Which has me wondering, what kind of green food will you eat for St. Patrick’s Day? P.S. Whenever I go to the local gardening center or to Longwood Gardens, my husband dreads that I’ll bring home another houseplant. I have several of them around the house because I love seeing the greenery and flowers all year long! I have quite a number of different plants, like orchids, cacti, lithops, many air plants, and some African violets. This is a photo of one of my violets and a geranium that I love and keep for cuttings for the summer garden! What about you? Do you have any houseplants? Is one your favorite?
