How do you recharge and unwind to prep for the week ahead? I always take some downtime to read the news and have a nice cup of coffee. Then I spend some time in the garden, tidying up!
What’s Your Favorite Memory About Going Back to School?
Confession Time: I was one of those kids who loved school. Even when I wasn’t in school, I was already reading and even doing tests at home out of the back of the encyclopedia. Going back to school after the summer was heaven to me. My favorite memory is of walking with friends to elementary school. Either my grandmother or grandfather would walk us to the first house where we met a friend, and then we met other friends along the way. Yes, you could do that back then. We would then all wait to hear the bell that said the doors were now open, and we would charge in! What about you? What is your favorite memory of going back to school? P.S. There is a scene in THE FAMILY SHE NEVER MET which is not a happy memory, and it is my memory. When I was about to start kindergarten, my mother and grandmother drove me to school. It looked like a prison to me, but worse, I thought that my mother was going to leave me again, just like she had left me in Cuba. It’s another beautiful Sunday on the Jersey Shore, and I hope it’s a beautiful day wherever you are also! Have a wonderful Sunday. I’m going to try and sneak in another day at the beach before the colder weather comes.
Expect nothing, appreciate everything
Sunday thought for the day: Expect nothing, appreciate everything. I’ve always believed in being grateful for what I have and appreciating it. As for expecting things, I’m a firm believer in working for what I want. Of course, it’s hard to carry that attitude over to my daughter and grandbaby because I would like them to have anything they want. But I know my daughter doesn’t expect to be given anything, and I know that she works hard for what she wants. Just some thoughts for one of the last Sundays of summer.

Happy National Black Cat Appreciation Day! When we adopted our first cat, Osiris, the lady at the shelter told us that black cats were hard to place because people were superstitious about black cats. We were surprised by that, and since we had no qualms about a black cat, Osiris became a member of our family. We had her for over seventeen years, but lost her to cancer a few years ago. P.S. Final Thoughts on 4th of July Weekend
The fireworks along the Jersey Shore are always spectacular. Over the few days before and after the 4th of July, you can watch fireworks from several different towns. Last night, it was time for our town to have its display, and they began with a laser light and music show, followed by fireworks. They were lovely!
